Singing - strong voice but can't hit high notes?

I love to sing and I'm pretty good at it.
I have good range, but i tend to sing a little lower because it just sounds better.
I've been told I have a unique tone, something sounding similar to Christina Aguilera. (If you know her voice I think you know what I mean.) The only thing is, I CANNOT hit higher notes. I have a very strong voice meaning I am able to hold notes/belt them. But I feel like I am not reaching my full potential because I struggle with the really high notes, someone with my kind of voice is expected to hit.
My voice just always cracks. Will I eventually be able to hit them?
I've never had any professional help so I need some advice!

How do you sing high notes?

As Rob Kerr said, in the top of your range it will probably never be effortless same way as the most comfortable part of your range. You can learn to make them more consistent, and done in a healhy way without wrong kind of tension/strain, but singing the very top notes will always require concentration and muscle work. For some voices they come easier than others.Learning is a process, and there is no magic formula that can be put in a simple Quora answer. But I try to give some ideas. Some things to pay attention to:Good body connection, but without pushing. Mental images like thinking down when the melody goes up help some people. The key to good high notes is how you manage the upper passaggio (register change going to head voice). Work the upper middle range first. When you can sing those notes smoothly and freely, you can go up.You need to open up more resonance space (high wide soft palate, open throat) and open your jaw (it is individual how much depending on the anatomy)You can vocalize high notes in many ways. Try some sirening exercises (gliding up-down or down-up between registers)It is easier to start with arpeggios than singing scales at the top of your range (in the beginning the upward scales tighten up easily). Or jump to the high note from 4th/5th below. You can do short staccato notes first just to reach them and find out how it feels, because it is harder to sing them sustained. Some find it easier to sing exercises with high notes from up to down hitting that high note first and then going down, because they get tense when they go higher from their "comfort zone". Also when you go straight to that note after breathing, you can prepare the body for the high note and open up resonance spaces with the inhale. Partly it is also a mental thing. If you are afraid of the high notes, it can create some tension that sabotages them. Try to not make it a big deal if it fails in some of the first attempts, or the quality is not consistent for a while. When you practice your top notes, don't overdo it. It takes time that all the muscle coordination that is required starts to function more consistently. Better to rehearse a short while well focused than repeat wrong functions. When you have a big high note in the music you sing, the critical thing to succeed is how you prepare them: how you take breath before that phrase and how you sing the notes before the high one. Your thought will be some steps ahead of the music.

Will I be able to sing high notes if I have a 'very' deep voice?

Lots of people in this question will say that you just extend your range…boom. But no, it doesn't just work like that, at this point I'm going to assume you are a male, and likewise have a male voice part, if I'm wrong about this don't read any further (the same comments above assume you are male)As a baritone, I can hardly sing above a middle C (C4) comfortably, yet at the same time, I can sing an E6 and possibly above (I haven't FULLY tested my falsetto yet), along with that, I can sing down to a F2.The only way you are going to be able to hit higher is to of strain/press the note, it doesnt sound too good, but it gets the job done (that is unless you can hit the note in a low falsetto, in which case do that as it sounds a lot better (I know from experience))You really just need to fully test your voice and see if there is a way you can sing that will let you hit those notes. The male voice does not offer that many ways to extend your voice, but it does give your voice certain characteristics that you can exploit to let you get things done.

How can i sing higher notes without my voice going very quiet?

The reason your voice gets that way is most likely because you are more of a alto (female) or low tenor/bass (male). Unless you have training you will always have trouble trying to get your voice up in those higher ranges. Its not impossible though so don't rule out trying. If you can't afford a vocal coach I would say your best bet would be to do daily vocal exercises. Warm up your voice by doing simple things like singing the alphabet or numbers.. going from low to high and high to low. It may not sound perfect at first but you'll get the hang of it. Even simple humming can help. Make sure to warm your voice up and practice daily and eventually you should get it. If not.. then your not cut out to push your voice. Be sure to practice with and without the guitar as well. You can email me for more info if you'd like. Brighteyes_55@yahoo.com

How can I learn to sing high notes?

Well is would seriously help to have singing lessons. A good idea is look at youtube videos on how to sing high notes.

The main one, and most common, is you are breaking into falsetto.
This means your are getting to a point in your range where your vocal chords can no longer hold together, and they are "breaking apart"
When this happens you will sound light and airy. Your tone has no depth and solidity to it. This is called "falsetto". Now while this can sound nice on occasions, you need to learn how to "shift gears" and move into your higher registers that will give your sound more power and depth.

I could type how to sing high notes but this video would help more. Good luck : )

How do you sing high notes softly?

I'm a classically-trained Coloratura Soprano, so I am required to sing high notes at any volume. Certain high notes will not flow out unless they are loud, others soft. What I do to control this is modify my vowels. This is done by lifting the soft palet, so there's an arch where the pitch can be heard. Once a typical Soprano reaches the top line on the staff (F), she must discard the "ah" vowel for the upper extention of her range. It sounds like we're choking if we try to sing that vowel with that pitch. It should feel like a smile. Think Lucia Popp. She has a tiny voice, so it seems as if all of her high notes are piano or pianissimo. If you have an agile Lyric voice like mine, this shouldn't be a problem. I suggest exercising this with another legit song. While writing this answer, I'm singing "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from "Phantom of the Opera". As you probably know, that song is supposed to be sung very quietly. Sometimes is necessary to sing operatic music in the front of your nasal cavity by the teeth so the sound is high, but not loud. Don't practice in the bathroom because the acoustics will throw you off so you don't know what your actual volume is. For a warm up, try these techniques, I use them every day in choir and voice lessons.

Sing Mee-meh-maw-moh-moo in ascending and descending octaves to a piano.

Sing any pitch, then hold it out with an increasing crescendo. You should get louder. Then decrescendo, get softer. Make the sound travel. While doing this you should be holding out the same pitch with lots of breath. Let me know if that confuses you. Go up a note and repeat the same thing. This will help you with volume control.

Remember to warm up!

Why does my voice always crack when I try singing high notes?

Singing is an art which can be learned. But every art needs time. As the proverb says“Rome was not built in a day”Now coming to your answer, what will happen if you pressurize a clay pot. It will crack and break. But a metal vessel never breaks. Because it can withstand pressure.I don't know much about Singing, I am not even close to a fine singer. But as per my understanding, Singing on high notes imparts large amount of pressure on lungs and vocal chords. And a weak vocal chord fails to bear such pressure and cracks. However, vocal cords can be improved by constant practicing. So practice till you learn how to sing on a same note for a longer period.
