How to sleep when its too hot?

I hate summer. I also hate sleep, or the need of sleep. I have had insomnia a lot for about a year, I think. It started in the summer. I just can't sleep when its hot! And its worse since spiders seem to love my room- Something I was just reminded of not 2 minutes ago. Do spiders seek revenge? I don't think I killed it... Spiders freak me out and if I think about them, pretty much everything that touches my skin becomes a spider in my mind.

Anyway, its nearly 4 AM, I'm tired and have been trying to get back to normal sleep so I can go on a vacation without sleeping until 3 pm, and I wanted to do stuff tomorrow.

Even with 2 fans running and a damp towel over my shoulders, its still too hot. Its not the noise from the fans. My mattress is hot, so that may be part of the problem. Its a giant rectangular beanbag chair the size of a bed. Its cover is some suede-like material. My room is the hottest room in the house. Its cluttered (though I spent all day cleaning) and the fan is so dumb. Its tiny. Like half the size of a regular ceiling fan. And its several bright colors and looks like it belongs in a first grade class, but that has nothing to do with the fact that it DOESN'T WORK!

I'm really miserable right now. I'm so tired. I can't sleep no matter what I try. And to top it off, I think I have a sunburn- How?!?! It wasn't here a day before and I was inside all day. I wasn't even by a window! Is that even possible?

Why do people like to sleep when it rains?

Or sleep easier when it's raining outside? I know not everyone finds it easier to sleep when it rains, but for the majority that do, why is this?
I've heard it's got to do with air pressure, but I'd like something more details and with scientific proof/background, please.

How to sleep when you took a nap earlier?

I like to sleep at 8pm - 11pm and wake up at 6am - 9am but one of those days I took a nap and messed up my sleeping schedule. Now I sleep around 4am - 6am and wake up around 1pm - 3pm. There are two solutions: Go to sleep now somehow or stay up until 3pm - 5pm which is very difficult. I also have a drivers appointment on monday at 10pm so I need to fix my sleeping schedule so any idea on how I can make myself sleep?

How do I sleep when it is extremely hot?

A friend of a friend did volunteer work in Africa back in the early 2000’s. He shared with my friend how he was able to get to sleep at night with the heat.It simple, cheap , and works pretty well.Take a towel, get it wet, wring out the excess water, and put it neck. It works better if you don't have a shirt on. Lay down, go to sleep.A small towel works better in my opinion, like a large hand towel, but any towel will do.I tried this when traveling though Europe in 2006 when there was a bit of a heat wave with no air conditioning in sight. It worked like a charm. I continue to use this method, sometimes even when air conditioning is available, just because I prefer open windows and fresh air. Try it out.

How to sleep when someone is snoring?

Some people particularly sensitive to sound when sleep, let alone some snoring aside, here are some tips on how to sleep when someone is snoring.

1. Roll the person onto his or her side. People tend to snore less in this position. If possible, make it so that they're at the edge of the bed, facing away from you.

2. Muffle the sound with earplugs. Custom shaped earplugs can be more comfortable than store bought. Many audiologists provide this service. If it's too late to buy a pair at the store, you can make temporary earplugs, but make sure that they're big enough to not get stuck inside your ear canal, and leave a tail so you can pull them out easily.

3. Listen to music with headphones. If you're used to falling asleep to silence, this will be difficult at first, but if you listen to certain music only when it's time to sleep, your body will eventually adapt to the noise and even associate that music with sleepiness.

4. If there is a fan around, put it next to the bed and turn it on. Many people find that the noise made by a fan is effective in drowning out snoring.

5. Use a nonprescription antihistamine to help you sleep. Do this only as a last resort, as your body quickly develops a tolerance. Read the labels. The main ingredient you're looking for is diphenhydramine.

6. Sleep in a separate room. Many partners of snorers find they sleep much better in a separate room.

Goodluck! :)

How to sleep with pink eye?

LOL.......well I have have pink eye right now too (it sucks, I know) and honestly it shouldn't hurt that bad when you sleep, you may want to look further into that.

But one thing I would say is make sure you sleep on your back, sleeping with your face down or to the side can cause the pillow or bed to irritate your eyes even more. Sleeping on your back will keep your eyes from being bothered.

Also you may want to wash your face before you go to sleep, the cold/warm water splashing against your eye(s) will help relax them just a tad bit. And yeah you could use a cold/warm towel but it doesn't do too much for me, just stick to the eye drops (don't overuse them it could make things worse) and don't rub your eyes or let things such as pillows or w/e irritate your eyes.

We'll be okay!! =)

How can I help a sick baby get some sleep? He just started antibiotics and we’re giving him Tylenol.

Dealing with a sick child is always hard, both emotionally and physically - hang in there! I always hate that helpless feeling when you want so badly to help, but just can't figure out how, since nothing seems to make him feel better. With ear infections or anything involving nasal blockages/mucous, elevation is usually helpful. Unfortunately, this might mean holding baby to sleep at night - with yourself propped up/elevated. A really great recliner with high, soft armrests for you to prop yourself on is invaluable. Otherwise, I have one of those bed backrests that college kids often use. During cold season, I can pretty much assume I'll be using that sucker pretty regularly, so it just stays behind my pillow in bed. The Tylenol should help with some pain, but if your doctor okays it (often depending on baby's age/weight), you can sometimes alternate acetaminophen and ibuprofen, which should help with discomfort.I've also found that motion helps, holding baby and sort of bounce walking gently with him, or just gentle patting...anything to establish a comforting repetition and distract him from his discomfort! As previously stated, nursing helps...not only is it comforting, but sometimes the swallowing can help relieve pressure. Pacifiers can do the trick too.If it's not hot out , a warm blanket or towel might be comforting - just stick it in the dryer for a couple minutes. If it is hot, a cool, wet washcloth on the forehead might help.Otherwise, anything comforting to distract the baby/soothe him or her is worth a try. My middle son always loves baths; even as a young infant, we could give him a bath to comfort him...of course, you'll want to be extra careful not to get water in his ears if he's already got ear pain!Good luck...just try as best as you can to stay calm, because the more upset I'd get, the more upset my baby would get.
