How To Spend Your Time Useful On Computer

How much time do you spend using a computer?

8 to 12 hours on weekdays. Totally random amounts of time on weekends, but usually probably around 2 hours total for any whole weekend.Literally glued to a computer (actually, two computers) from 5 am to 1 pm on weekdays. And often a little more when I get home whether it be for work, gaming or just doing whatever one does on a computer, like reading and catching up on Youtube subscriptions. When I’m not in front of a computer, my iPhone is basically a computer and is always within arms reach if not directly in front of my eyeballs.Literally can’t escape computers. In fact, I like to think of my phone as a sort of third arm that reaches out and touches the internet and information and other people when they aren’t in physical proximity. What’s it like to lose an arm? I have no idea, but I’ve lost that third arm before and it was mostly miserable, though I tried to embrace it like I was some sort of caveman in the wilderness, even though I was comfortable inside an apartment.I worry that this question is from someone concerned about how much time people spend using computers, but really they are a part of everyone’s daily lives, and the best thing is to get really good at using your third arm(s), and get real comfortable having them be part of your life. They’re everywhere, and you’re all but guaranteed to be using one for your job, in some way or another. There’s nothing wrong with spending a lot of time on a computer. Just make sure you get some exercise and fresh air and sunshine too.

What happens if you spend too much time using the computer?

Brandon's right. You could get RSI (repetitive strain injury) from having your body in the same position doing the same repetitive motions for too long. You could become short-sighted from staring at something so close to your face for too long. It's the same as how people have to get glasses for reading too much. And then there's the theory that technology, in long/overwhelming doses, messes up your body functions. The wiring in your brain would probably be affected by the microwaves (or whatever it is, it's some kind of wave) coming from your computer, much like how it could be affected if you stare at a microwave while it's going. They could cause mutations in your body, which are 99.9 % bad. The lack of Vitamin D from the sun and fresh air will have severe effects on your body, its organs and the skin. These are of course extreme cases but if you were to constantly sit in front of a computer for long periods of time, they could develop.

Having mini-breaks will help but it won't prevent these side-effects.

My husband would rather play computer games then spend time with his family. What can I do to get him to stop?

My husband has a serious computer gaming problem. I'm not one of those wives who thinks he should never play video games. I just ask it be done in moderation. It is not like he goes on for an hour or two, he stays on for hours on end. I haved tried explaining to him it bothers me and he still does it. It is like an obsession to the point that he neglects keeping up with chores. The bigger problem is that we just had our first baby a month ago and he even ignores her to play games. It hurts me that he doesn't take an intrest in spending QUAILITY time with her. I have asked him to feed her and he will hold her like a sack of potatoes in one arm and play with the other while barely holding the bottle. If she crys he won't walk with her he will plop her on his lap and let her scream so he can play. He works 4 nights a week so he sleeps all day on those days. The days he is off I want him to spend time with us. He doesn't understand that. What can I do to get him to stop this?

Does spending a lot of time on computers cause Strabismus?

looking at a computer screen for more than 20 minutes at one time strains the eyes. get them checked and wear glasses when using the computer. [learned this while doin a buisness and computers course and nearly all the class ended up wit gasses but it will save your eyes in the long run.

How much human-computer interaction is useful to you as a computer expert?

If this is about the interaction between my computer and me, then I would say almost 85% of the time that I spend on my computer is useful.I started my career as a UI/UX designer and now I am a front-end engineer. I do 90% of my tasks on computer as a professional. Rest 10% are mostly spent on doing meetings and documenting stuff. If this is in regard to a person being involved in interaction/UI/UX design in his/her day to day activities, I would say 100%. Having HCI knowledge plays a pivotal role in understanding/researching the user behaviours and patterns. At the same time, in finding out novel or obvious solutions based on these findings. To deliver elegant “solutions”, you should be proficient (or atleast intermediate) in HCI.As you grow professionally (being a UI/UX designer), you will understand this quote better:Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.Thank you for A2A Princess Kinza.

What do you call people who work with computers or spend most of their time with computers?

My brothers used to introduce me as “this is my brother, he’s in computers.” Which is totally wrong as I am a time management coach who uses a computer for creating online courses and marketing. I used to get annoyed at this because the person they introduced me to would assume I do computer repair and they would ask me about fixing their computer. The computer is a tool that is used by so many people in so many ways that there is probably no set term.People who use computers include:writersprogrammersgraphic artistsmanagersentrepreneursweb designersmarketersartists selling onlinephotographersEven restaurant staff and sawmill operators are using computers at work, so they are everywhere. There is a term for people who work on computers while travelling. They are called “Digital Nomads.”

I spend a lot of time on cell phone and my computer. How do I protect my eyes?

Dry eye disease is a multifactorial disease of the tears and ocular surface that can result in ocular discomfort and visual impairment. Dry eye is generally due to decreased tear production and/or excessive evaporative loss that one reports with with excessive computer usage.●Most patients present with symptoms of chronic eye irritation, such as eye dryness, red eyes, and burning. However, there is considerable variability in patient-reported symptoms over time.●There is no single definitive diagnostic test to identify or classify the severity of dry eye disease. The diagnosis is based primarily on patient symptoms and supportive findings of dry eye from examination.Environmental coping strategies address the importance of environmental causes that could be contributing to or even causing dry eye symptoms. One important strategy includes frequent blinking, especially during visually attentive tasks such as reading or computer use. The patient should also be urged to minimize exposure to air conditioning or heating. Humidifiers are useful in the bedroom, office, or any space where the patient spends a significant amount of time.Common eye complaints include:●Dryness●Red eyes●General irritation●Gritty sensation●Burning sensation●Foreign body sensation●Excessive tearing●Light sensitivity●Blurred visionThe blurred vision associated with dry eyes tends to be quite variable. Since the tear film is the first layer encountered by light rays as they enter the eye, an irregular tear film can degrade the quality of the image that is received by the retina. The visual impairment associated with dry eyes is usually temporary and often improves with treatment of the condition.Treatment for dry eye disease is aimed at increasing or supplementing tear production, slowing tear evaporation, reducing tear resorption, or reducing ocular surface inflammation. The patient should discontinue unnecessary systemic or ocular medications that can contribute to dryness. The first line of treatment in patients complaining of dry eye includes tear supplementation and environmental coping strategies.
