What is the wear and tear like on a Birkin Bag?
ok, I got a birkin bag for christmas, and its a 35mm and its orange and togo leather. the thing is it seems like the orange color is coming off on the bottom seam. My Birkin is real, not a fake thats FOR SURE but i just dont think that it should be wearing out this way. the color shouldnt come off, it looks brand new everywhere else its just the one area on the seam where the color has come off. is this normal? any birkin owners can tell me about how their bag wears?

Replica Birkin, where to buy?
I have never seen a single replica Birkin that looks real. I have been to both Silk Alley in Beijing and Xiang Yang Market in Shangai, along with various places in Hong Kong and Bangkok who all claimed to carry "first quality" Birkins. And even the ones selling for $300+ do not look or feel real. First of all, the leather is completely different so the shape of the bag is not the same. There are also differences in the hardware, stitching, lining, etc so anyone who knows what a real Birkin looks like knows it's a fake right off the bat I have a friend who is dying for one and since I go to Asia 1-2 times a year with work has asked me to find her one that looks authentic. I've looked on all sorts of shopping sites, etc to get recommendations but none of them have been good enough to fool anyone. Why are Birkin bags so expensive?
I am a purse lover, and I appreciate a pretty, cute purse, even if it is more expensive than others, but I was just browsing on ebay and came accross the auctions for Birkin bags and was shocked and appauled at the prices. I have heard of the bags before, I know that some people have waiting lists, but WHY are they that expensive and why would anyone spend that much anyways? The most expensive one on there was $65,000, yes US dollars. Even if I was a millionare, I would have to think hmm... mercedes or small purse. Not a hard decision. I have read up on them and see that they are made with expensive leather etc, but so are other purses that don't cost nearly that much. Is there something I am missing here? What makes a purse worth $65,000?

They may be getting new bags from other people who bought them directly from Hermes and have then offered them to the reseller to sell on consignment. There are a surprising number of people who do this (in my experience, mostly private bankers). There are also wealthy ladies who have extensive collections of Hermes bags that have never been used, or very lightly used, who clear out their closets from time to time - I’ve seen some with dozens. In such cases, the reseller should have all the original purchase documents (not copies), all original accessories and preferably the original packaging. If the bag is really brand new it will have all the original Hermes seals on the hardware as well.But, as Madeleine says below, it is also very possible they are fakes, maybe even extremely good fakes. My advice would be to never never never buy a Hermes bag from a pure online reseller with no fixed, long established place of business. If despite all that you really want the bag, dont buy it unless you personally inspect it and have seen all the original purchase documentation. If you are not very familiar with Hermes bags and how to spot fakes, get a 3rd party authentication. Finally, get the resellers personal details (passort, address, national identificaion card number etc) so they can be tracked down if necessary. You really can’t be too careful.
