How To Start Learning Arabic For Reading Quran

How long does it take to learn to be able to read Quranic Arabic (without understanding anything) for reading/recitation purposes if you do not speak Arabic and it is not your native language?

I opt to get into that your goal has two ends:1) Learning to read Arabic.2) Learning to recite the Quran.1) Learning to read Arabic only is similar to taking a phonics course and nothing but phonics. The same should take minimum 30 Lessons; Two lectures a week; four hours a week; 60 teaching hours to be completed in 9 weeks. You need to add to those 60 hours, a minimum of 126 studying hours to cover those 30 lessons.By the time you complete the phonics course, you should be able to read any Arabic text. Practically, you will need to practice reading every day till it becomes a second nature to you.2) Learning to recite the Quran is a different story.Arabic native speakers commit mistakes that cause the change of the meaning of the verse when they don't take a course in reciting the Quran. During the course, they have to take Arabic Grammar lessons. Yet, not all the Natives take a reciting course. They depend on their fluency trying to avoid reading mistakes. They commit mistakes while reading the Quran. But not as big as a non-Arabic speaker. In the above settings, after completing the phonics course, you may open the Quran and read. You will have to do it in front of a scholar to correct your reading. But if you want to keep the scholar happy with your reading skills, you are forced to go beyond learning how to read. Because the course of reciting the Quran includes Arabic Grammar lessons. You will also need to learn vocabulary. This is an advanced level in any language. For the sake of accuracy, the term reciting the Quran is a huge and complicated term to use for a non-Arabic speaker. In conclusion, you need a minimum of 60 teaching hours to complete a phonics course. Still, reciting the Quran requires admission to a reciting course in the Quran itself, not in the language. The same requires the completion of an advanced level of the Arabic language. Thanks for the A2A ♡

How can I learn the Quran in Arabic?

You can start from understanding and practicing how to pronounce Hijaiyah fonts in order to read Arabic. That’s a very basic need for you before you go to the next step in learning Quran. Start from learn how to recite it correctly, then go on understanding it, and so on.As I am also struggling on Quran learning, I understand that reciting Quran is not only about pronouncing Arabic words, it also requires us to apply some rules named Tajweed. Better go to Quran teacher (ones who understand Arabic are better, of course). Or, if you find it difficult to schedule class with teacher, start learning by yourself using existing resources (websites, mobile app)Lucky me I found this app: Learn Quran Tajwid on iOS and Android. I use it as complementary to my Quran class. Complete learning materials from basic like how to read Hijaiyah fonts (Alif Ba Ta etc) until advanced tajweed rules in Quran. I love the design it is easy to use. I hope you enjoy using this app :)

How long will it take to learn Arabic if I can read the Quran fluently?

It depends on a number of factors. What is (are) the language(s) you grew up speaking? What is your general language-learning aptitude? What language learning method are you going to be using? How old are you, and did you learn more than one language as a child? These are all important factors in your ability to learn any new or relatively new language.I studied Arabic at a school that prides itself for being the best place to learn a language in a very short period of time. It is not the best language school in the world, but it is the best at teaching language fast. It took me nearly two years to learn Arabic in that environment, where I was studying 6 or more hours a day, five days a week. And in that environment, none of the Muslims who had previous exposure to Arabic passed. That’s not to say that their prior experience with the language or religion was a negative factor; just that it was not enough to compensate for their lack of general aptitude. If you already know the alphabet, you will have an edge in the beginning. But Arabic is freaking hard. Once all your classmates get the script more or less figured out you will notice you no longer have much of an advantage. That’s the easy part. The grammar is a real bear, if you are not already efficient at parsing foreign grammar concepts. And as for how long it will take to “learn Arabic,” that all depends on what you mean. What level of fluency are you trying to achieve? Four years of university level language study will get you to the point that you can comfortably read and parse any passage in Arabic reasonably well, but will not necessarily make you ready to carry on intelligible conversations with native speakers, much less interpret in real time for members of the UN delegations (I am not good enough to do that myself, and I’ve been a professional translator). So I’m not trying to discourage you, just trying to put it into perspective. Unless you are a supergenius, you can expect your study of Arabic to be a lifelong pursuit. True mastery takes a complete commitment. Best of luck!

Can I learn Arabic and learn to read the Quran all by myself?

Yes.You can.I used to think it’s not possible, unless you started that as a child and lived in an Arabic speaking country. But, in the past few years, 1 came to know some people of different ethnicity who studied Arabic and Qura’an and became really good actually great at it within two or three years. Some of them teaches Arabic grammar and everything and helps you read Qura’an in Arabic here’s an example:Bayyinah Institute - YouTube Actually this one claims it takes about six months to master the Arabic grammar. You could also look up those people:Hamza Yusuf - WikipediaYusuf Estes - WikipediaAmr Khaled - WikipediaThe last one is an Egyptian, he and the one above him, could help you with understanding Islam, but for the linguistics I recommend the first two in the written order.I choose the four of them speak English and who are online.Of course you need to work for it.Good luck Ibukun Akeredolu.

Children learning the Quran in Arabic when it isn't their mother tongue - why?

I doubt that even a child who knows Arabic and is Arab would understand the Qur'aan because the Qur'aanic Arabic is classical Arabic,. You cant learn Qur'aan in your own language but you can read the meaning of it.
we teach our children the importance of the Holy Qur'aan and help them memorise at young age weather they speak Arabic or not. Simply because of the benefits of the Qur'aan, they will know how important the Qur'an is and implement it in their lives later on. Its been done since the time it was revealed memorized and practiced upon.
My children do not know the meaning but they are memo rising the Qur'aan they go to weekend madarasa. And Alhamdullillaah, they are learning so much.
They are also learning Arabic at school.
But still children should memorise the Qur'aan later on they will learn the meaning InshaAllaaah.

pooteri: I'm hoping that you are not muslim. as you sound like one.
These are my children and I'm responsible for them, and what they will become, Its my responsibility to teach them what I want and how I want to teach them. Period.
its not dictatorial to want your children to follow you in your faith and be muslims.
In their own pace later on They will learn the meaning of the Qur'aan and Allaah will guide them. Right now I have a responsibility to teach them the importance of the Qur'aan and help them memorise the words of Allaah, just like my parents helped me when I was little. Other wise I would have been a lost sheep.

Can Arabic be learned by studying the Qur'an only?

No, but learning and studying Arabic through the Holy Quran could be rewarding. Because reciting the Quran itself is recommended in Islam. Besides, you can think about the grammatical aspects when you study the verses. Also you would study Arabic based on grammatical books with Quranic examples. In this matter, some useful books are available in on-line bookstores. For me, as a Muslim, one of the most important reasons to study Arabic was to understand the Holy Quran and the Words of Ahl al-Bayt (as). I think without these two elements; Arabic is like the other languages.

Do Indonesian Muslims learn Arabic to be able to read the Quran?

Yes, we learn to read Qur'an in it's original letter and language. It's not that hard you know. There are many methode provided to read  Qur'an in arabic letter, wich start to recognize every single word, learn the difference when 2 or more letters are combined, when we have to read it long/short way, and when we have to break in the middle of the sentence and what are the sign. It's not take long time to learn that. Little children (about 5 -7) learn arabic letter and able to read Qur'an fluently within a years if they learn regularly. Many of them even need shorter time. And since Indonesian people are multilingual by nature, learning arabic are not a big deal. My daughters have to learn 4 languages in their school (Indonesian, English, Arabic, Javaneese) and they tell me that Javaneese is the hardest languages.Elementary Islamic School student able to master arabic writing when the are in their 2nd/3rd grades (I think that's the latest age). And finding little children (about 9 -11 years) who able to recite 30th and 29th juz of qur'an are very easy.
