How To Start Learning Japanese

Why did you start learning Japanese?

Oh, boy. I wanted to take something exotic (outside of French, Spanish and Italian). I originally wanted to take Russian because it was just after the cold war ended. But my college didn't offer it that year, I couldn't wait, and I wound up taking Japanese.

I didn't do that great at it, but I met this boy, then took a year at Nagoya, then wound up spending the rest of my life in Japan.

Depending on the day and the discussion, I'm quite fluent, I have the kanji of a 4th-grader with a few oddballs included in. I use it almost everyday, but it was important to have a strong English background, and also to have other skills.

If I want to learn Japanese on my own, where do I start?

First off, I have never tried to learn a language before. I watch Japanese anime, so I know a couple of words and phrases, but that's about it. Also, I know that you need to learn Hiragana an Katakana first. But where do I go from there? I want to be able to read, write, and speak it. Thank you!

Trying to learn Japanese and maybe Korean. Where should I start?..?

I have loved kpop for quite a while now and also watch some kdramas. I love everything about Korea and thought that I would learn Korean, but i was too lazy with it. I soon decided that I wanted to learn Japanese, and this is going to sound stupid, but I didn't even have a practical reason. Now i have a Japanese friend and for about 5 months i've even said I wanted to live in Japan. I listen to a little bit of jmusic but am I doing the right thing? I don't really have the money to buy textbooks or take classes and I don't know where to start.
I know most hiragana and quite a few basic phrases. I've been 'learning' Japanese for about 7 months now but i've made less progress than I had hoped. I have a very low attention span so it's bad that I have no clue what to start learning when. I need to know what things to learn first and good learning methods. Nothing is working!!
Please help, and should I just quit now?
