How To Stay Fit While Having A Injured Knee

How do I stay in shape while I'm injured?

I'm a sophomore in high school on the cross country team, and on the varsity team which it is very important I can still be fit. I have a slight fracture in my right foot. And I'm not allowed to run for one month (twenty-seven days now.) The doctor has instructed that I can't walk for exercise. How can I stay in shape for the time being? And do you think I can get away with doing 2 laps (800 m) of lunges for my thighs?

Can you be discharged from the Army because of a knee injury?

see he had knee surgery 2 years ago..and he was told that he probably would never get full strength of his leg but 2 years later he has joined the army and has the highest record in his batallion for all the physical requirements. It wasnt till the last day of there 7 day test in the field that he actually told his drill sgt and he told him that if he made it this far he should be fine. And then last night he did it again.. i know he will do everything possible to get it in good order. He is in the National Guard so all he is doing right now are drills once a month. No deployment as of now..and he is doing college first! WOuld this make a difference?

What are the best ways to stay in shape while recovering from a leg injury?

If you don't mind me saying so your question is a bit vague and requires more information to give a thorough answer and list of exercises.  Also, in shape is a relative and subjective term and will differ based on our individual definitions and interpretations.  I will assume however, that you mean being as fit as possible given the limitations and restrictions as a result of your recent ACL tear?First, I would have to know more about the details, treatment and recovery of the injury.  If surgery was the treatment of choice how was the repair performed, did you receive physical therapy afterwards, for how long and how recently were you cleared? If you did indeed go through physical therapy this is where I would start for suggestions and then I would suggest finding a qualified personal trainer who is post-surgically and post-rehab certified to work with you. A good personal trainer will discuss your entire health history with you and perform an overall assessment.  It is only then that I would recommend considering the most effective exercises for you.I will say that not jogging for at least three months is a wise choice.  As is any type of high impact movements or plyometrics (jumping)  And I would agree swimming is an excellent substitute and is much easier on the joints. If you have a passion for running and you feel you are destined to return to it, then you will.  Have faith and remember to progress back into it slowly. Please feel free to elaborate and I would be more than happy to provide additional details.Best of luck and keep the faith!
