How To Stop A Cat Going Near My Cat Flap

HOW DO YOU STOP A draft from a cat flap?

Well, first I should say that I don't have an answer but I can tell you what I tried that didn't work. I have had the same problem. I tried attaching some rubber weather stripping to the top area but the door kept getting caught on it when the cats went through and then it was always open. I tried taping a cloth over the outside of it over half the door and that didnt work because the wind just went under it. Its definetely a flaw in the design and I hope someone answers this because I want to know too! I will be watching this question. Thanks for asking.

How can I stop my cat flap freezing up in cold weather?

Ice is forming on the outside and on the draught excluding fury edge which gets stuck. It is stopping the flap from opening and my poor cat gets left outside in the cold! has anyone else had this problem?

How to stop stray cats coming through the cat flap?

They have cat doors that can be opened only by a magent that is worn on the cat's collar--these tend to be the most expensive, but they also offer a variety of additional features as well. Like it will give you the option to choose the setting for the door--for example, you can set it to where the cat can enter but cannot leave the house. Or you can set it to where the cat can leave but not re-enter the house, or to where the door can't be opened at all (a good option if the cat is inside, and you don't want him to go out, or if you are going away.)

Are cat flaps a good idea? I have one. But one night going for pee (I'm 72) I found eight cats in my kitchen! My son Arthur is working on a device to open the door when Tiddles approaches but does anyone have any ideas?

Q: Are cat flaps a good idea? I have one. But one night going for pee (I'm 72) I found eight cats in my kitchen! My son Arthur is working on a device to open the door when Tiddles approaches but does anyone have any ideas?I don’t understand how your age is relevant to the question.A standard cat flap will let any and all cats in to your house. Unwelcome cats will beat up you own cats, piss all over the place and steal your cat’s food. There are magnetically operated cat flaps that (in principle) will only admit a cat with a magnet on its collar. But I have found them unreliable in various ways and they are not really proof against a strong and determined intruder cat.The solution is an electronic cat flap that detects your cat’s coded identification chip.I have two cat flaps which detect the coded identification chips in my cats and they let my cats (and only my cats) come and go as they please. They are very reliable.Look up “sureflap” for more information.Added:Your cat is chipped I presume? Even apart from the question of catflaps, it’s worth doing so that your cat can be identified if found.

How can i stop a stray cat from coming to my front door and leaving a pile of poop?

Its funny you should ask as I just answered a similar question this evening.

First: You need to clean the soiled area thoroughly, because all cats love to urinate or defecate in places that already smell like urine or feces. Avoid using products that contain ammonia as these could actually remind the cat of the smell of urine. And remember, even if you can't smell something, the cat probably can.

First, you need to really clean the spots where the kitty has relieved itself. I would use a mixture of 1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 tablespoon of dishsoap (like Dawn, Ivory or Dove). This formula has worked to remove skunks smells so it is a sure bet this will work on the cat urine/feces smell.

Another option is to add a several drops of Listerine mouthwash to the perioxide mixture as it helps a lot with the odor. In addition to a great cleaning solution, this is a safe pest spray for plants that are in and around children or pets.

Once the soiled areas are really clean, use a high-quality pet odor neutralizer available at pet supply stores. Test the affected surface for staining first, and read and follow the instructions. Use products that have natural enzymes to actually devour odor-causing bacteria instead of just covering up the scent.

If you see the cat coming, use a water filled spray bottle to discourage the cat from coming around. You can also try spraying the area with a cat repellant which you can purchase at any pet store.

Good luck.

How do I stop someone elses cat coming in? I already have a magnetic cat flap!?

First of all, if you have alot of stray cats around their please get them fixed. Then if that cat comes in your house, he won't spray. And there won't be more cats being born to beat up your cat. There are programs in every state that trap stray cats, fixes them and releases them. Sometimes it's free and sometimes it's only a few dollars. Go to this website http://www.lovethatcat.com/spayneuter.html#nationwide there's a list of places that fix stray cats for free and low cost. And they provide the trap to trap them. This list the programs by state. So find your state and it will tell you what programs there are in your state.

Can you live with out the cat door? Maybe just have it sealed up and just open the door for your cat? If you get your cat a collar with a bell, you will always know when he's at the door. Or he will meow to let you know.

How do I train my cat to go through a cat flap? What techniques would I use to help it get over it's fear?

You have a scaredy-cat, too, eh?My cat, Samhain, is the king of scaredy-cats.Everything is out to get me!I have found what works best for him, when there is something new that he finds scary, is for me to make several demonstrations that it is safe, and then to allow him to cautiously test it on his own.We don't have a cat flap, but this what I would do:Sit next to the kitty and calmly open and close the flap a couple of times to show how it works— don't let the flap slam shut or make a frightening noise. If the cat wants to get closer and investigate, maybe even hold it open so the cat can see how it works.Give pettings and praise during the demonstration to make it a positive experience. When the cat is ready to try to push it open, try putting a couple of treats on the other side to encourage the cat to go throughBe careful with the treats though, especially if your cat is highly intelligent, or you just might find your cat training you to give treats every time the cat uses the flap— and the cat will go in and out frequently just for the reward! When the cat wants to go out, redirect them to the flap instead of opening the door. Then just be patient so that the cat will feel convinced of their own accord that there is nothing to fear from the flap.If the above steps haven't proven successful within a day or two, you could also try incorporating a game of chasing a string (or other favorite toy) in and out the flap. The point is to associate positive things with the new, seemingly scary item so that the cat will realize that they have nothing to fear from it.

How do I stop my cat from crying at my door?

Cats nap all day so they won’t sleep the way you do. You could try using a crate for them and getting them used to the idea of being in it at night by putting some toys in it to play with. Dog owners do this and don’t have to shut the crate. Pretty soon the dog goes there as it is a favourite place to be. You can make it comfy with a blanket and soft toys. When we came home with our puppy, I put him in the kitchen, with a soft night light and some rose oil burning in the corner so he would relax down. He was as quiet as a mouse and went out like a light. In Japan I believe you can get alarm clocks with dispense aroma oils into the room to help you wake up - peppermint - or others to help you sleep. You could look into this.Generally speaking, unless you can occupy them in another way when they awaken - if you have a conservatory with a cat flap leading into it, maybe they can go in there - you will need to accept that they will wake you up.2 kittens = 2 little bouncy children (with fur).If you can isolate them into another room, they will not disturb you at your door. If they scratch, attach a padded blanket to the outside of your door, so they don’t harm anything. You can get creative around this. They may also need a cat superhighway (shelves and raised platforms to sit on) around your rooms. They like to perch so if you do this, they may well sleep or at least stay there and be a bit less active.Put ‘My Cat From Hell’ into Google as a search term and check out what the Cat Daddy has to say about catificating your place. He may also have some tips about the specific behaviour you have listed.

My cat gets her paw stuck in the catflap. How can I stop this?

Keely........Kizzi got used to NOT having anything touch her back when the flap was taped open. Now, she gets scared when she feels "trapped" by the flap ( on her back ).

Show Kizzi how to PUSH the flap with her nose, instead of using her feet to pull it open....then, hold it open and get her back inside..........

After that, go outside and continually call Kizzi ( with treat, if necessary ) until she comes all the way through the flap. Then go back inside and repeat, so she can see that she can come back in the same way......always with the flap DOWN.

Do this as many times as it takes for her to be comfortable pushing the flap & going all the way through.....both ways!! It make take a few minutes......or it could take an hour! But, be patient with her.....until Kizzi came to live with you, she probably never saw a cat flap.....and may have gotten trapped by something else at some time, which is why the flap ( on her back ) scares her.

Once Kizzi uses the flap to go in and out without you coaxing her, you can get another flap that is complete, so the cold doesn't come in.........

* This is the method I used when I got a "rescue" ( always an outside cat ). It worked great, and she has no problems with the flap.......

Hope this helps.........Good luck to you and Kizzi..........
