How To Suppress Anxiety And Calm Down

How to calm down or prevent anxiety attacks?

I have anxiety attacks. I've had them for a number of years and hate them. They make me feel like a child having a tantrum. It is this uncontrollable emotional, psychological, overall stressful thing in which I feel like a Tasmanian devil is spinning inside of me tearing my insides and emotions apart. I shake, I cry, I can't really speak, I try to control myself and calm myself down. I don't really like taking the 'breakthru' medicine while I am in the middle of a panic attack, it is just a mental thing I think and I feel like s*** because I need to take a pill to calm myself down and stop throwing this thing I identify as a tantrum/anxiety attack.

Please if you have any suggestions as to how to calm yourself down or prevent an anxiety attack I would so appreciate it! Please help me out I don't want to feel like this for the rest of my life.

Does vodka calm anxiety?

Time calms anxiety. Sit still for a minute, get your head together and breath. The anxiety will go away in 3 minutes. Yes, alcohol does calm anxiety too. But for one, it slows down everything, the part of your brain that is making you anxious and the part of your brain that has the answers to the test. Plus, what are you going to do, take a shot everytime you feel anxious? You'll never learn to deal. Everytime someone asks you the time you'll have a panic attack if you get into a habit like that. We do that too much now. Take something to get a quick fix and cause more problems down the line. But the worst that can happen is someone finds you out and get kicked out of school for coming in after drinking. You'll be banished to the alternative school across town with the potheads and criminals all because you didn't want to wait 3 minutes to get your head together and take a test. Drinking to stop anxiety on a school test is like chopping your arm off because it itches, ******* retarded.

Why does Adderall calm me, reduce my social anxiety, and make me happier?

If you have ADD/ADHD, these stimulants tend to calm you down and help to focus your attention, whereas if someone without ADD takes a recreational stimulant they're physically and mentally jumping all over the place. This is not a paradoxical reaction as seen in people with bipolar disorder. The ADD/ADHD brain has areas of under-activity primarily in the prefrontal cortices. Anyway, the lack of activity in the prefrontal cortices is the reason why our train of thought is always jumping tracks, if not crashing outright. Nature abhors a vacuum, right? So the brain makes up for that under-activity with extra activity elsewhere, thus the hyperactivity part of ADHD. The ADD meds go right to the prefrontal cortices and generally boost the activity everywhere, but mainly, when they work correctly, where there's not enough activity. Thus activity in the brain is smoothed out and regulated and there's no need to be hyperactive in one place because you're not under-active anywhere else. And with normal brain activity you can keep a train of thought going.

To use a somewhat flawed analogy of a car with a misfiring cylinder, the one or two cylinders that aren't firing correctly are the under-active parts of the brain, while the ones causing the annoying backfires, knocks and bangs are the hyperactive parts of the brain. The ADD meds smooth out the activity of your brain so everything runs at the same level of activity. The trick is just making sure you're not revving too fast all the time.
