How To Tell If My Ac Adapter Or My Battery Is Broken

Is my AC adapter broken?

Your problem can be both the DC jack or the charger. I personally believe it is inclined towards the charger but it varies upon case and I will explain below:

DC jack-
The DC jack is located on the side of your laptop (95% of laptops) and is the little hole you plug the charger into. The DC jack can be damaged by aggresive plugging in habits or dropping the laptop with the charger plugged in as well at an angle to push in the DC jack. Other possible scenarios can occur as well in which the DC jack is pushed in. It generally never has problems with pulling out unless it is, again, in an aggressive move.

Charger-
I don't really need to explain this one other than the fact that the charger can be damaged by many, too many, scenarios. Pets urinating on the charger is one I hear quite often as well as dropping the charger, ripping it out of the outlet, bending it too much, manufacture defect, overcharging leading to a heated up charger which melted the connector tip or internal hardware, as well as many others. I'm sure you have your own unique story to tell as well.

Another big reason why I believe its your charger as well is because of its age. 2007, thats a little over 3 years since you've owned it and chargers usually only last 2 1/2 to 3 years. Though there are some occasions where it stops working the first year, or it still works in the 5th year, it can vary. Typically speaking it does stop working after 3 years.

Back to what I said above, it depends. If you believe the DC jack is broken, get it repaired. Should cost somewhere between 50-100 dollars. If you believe the more likely cause of a damaged or dead charger, then get a new charger. Remember, you can return items, but you can't return repairs.

If you need a new charger, you can look on sites like ebay or amazon but I would personally recommend you visit Topmic instead. Topmic is well known for their great services and their durable products. They include free shipping and free lifetime warranty. Yes, lifetime. This means if the charger ever stops working on its own for whatever reason, they would replace it at no additional cost as many times as needed, for life. This is a great way to save money in the long run and is a wonderful investment.

You should be able to find them online through google search.

Best of luck.

Uni laptop adapter refusing to charge battery (dell inspiron 6000),is there an advanced method to over ride it?

Its also the wrong tip,but it looks EXACTLY like the broken one,it also has a fail safe that cuts power and goes to batt when the adapter heats to luke warm, and since the battery is long dead ._. i get about 30mins - 6 hours of use.

Is there some advanced method to over ride all these funtions ,at the very least disabling the temperature funtion, thanks!

How will I know if my laptop battery needs replacing?

This is one of the most asked questions regarding laptop batteries. And one with multiple answers, as well. First know that, eventually, every rechargeable battery will need to be replaced. How soon your battery will wear out depends mostly upon your usage, your care of the battery and the quality of the battery itself. It makes sense that extensive use of the battery will reduce it’s running life faster than an average amountof use and a better built battery will probably enjoy a longer life span than one built with lower quality materials. On average, a battery will begin to show a normal decrease in power after 18 to 24 months. With extensive use, a reduced run time might be noticeable before 18 months. There are 3 main indications that it might be time to replace your battery:Your laptop battery is simply not charging. First, remove and then reconnect your battery to make sure the battery has just not loosened from its proper connection. Second, start your laptop with another charger to see if the AC-adapter might be damaged. Adapters don’t usually wear out that quickly but it’s certainly worth giving it a try. If neither of the above solve the problem, the battery has worn out and needs to be replaced.Your laptop is not connecting with the battery. Try cleaning all the connectors on the battery and the laptop and if that doesn’t solve the problem, most likely, your battery is dead.Your laptop battery works, but not for long. This is the normal progression after 18-24 months of usage, depending on the user, care of the battery and the quality of the battery manufacturer. When the loss of battery time interferes with your performance - or patience – replace it! You can buy a laptop battery replacement at online store, such as this store www.zthy-tech.com

What does numbers on my ac adapter mean?

I would agree. Set it to 20 volts. However, the charger you are describing is an universal charger. This means that the charger is not built for any 1 specific laptop. I would highly recommend you look into getting a charger that is built for your laptop because typically, after a few days the charger stops working and you are no longer able to return it.

You can look online on siteslike ebay or amazon but I would personally suggest you visit Topmic instead. Topmic is well known for their great services and their durable products. They include free shipping and free lifetime warranty. Yes, lifetime. This means if the charger ever stops working on its own for whatever reason, they would replace it as many times as needed at no additional cost, for life.

This is a great way to save money in the long run and a good investment as well.

Dropping my laptops ac adapter?

While putting away the charging cord to my laptop, I accidentally dropped the AC power adaptar and it fell on the ground. It didn’t split in half or anything. I don’t even see a dent since it fell on a hard surface, but I don’t want to ruin my computer by plugging it into my laptop. With my older laptop, I actually dropped the adaptar and it split in half. I didn’t use it. I just threw it away and bought another on amazon. Is it safe to still use the one I have now? Are they made to be rough housed abit and to “fall on the ground”? Thanks for the answers!

Does my laptop need a new charger or battery?

In order to verify the real issue, you should remove your battery and plug in the charger. If it can let your laptop run that means your laptop adapter is ok, you need a new battery, if there is no power , you should buy a new charger.http://www.chargerbuy.com/laptop...

What is the consequence of using a lower wattage power adapter with a laptop?

Let’s start by saying that I have done this. And… I’ve done it on more than one occasion, and I’ve done it on purpose to know what will happen.I ran a Toshiba Satellite A75 on a 90 watt adapter for a couple of months, while it required a 120 Watt adapter. Here is what happened. Under normal usage conditions… checking email, surfing the web… light tasks, the battery would get hot, but otherwise the laptop would perform normally. If I played any games, the laptop would turn off within 60 seconds of starting the game. If I did any CPU intensive tasks while not gaming, whether or not the laptop would turn off, depended on how long I ran the tasks for. If I removed the battery, the unit would not turn itself off when doing CPU intensive tasks outside of gaming, but gaming would still bring the laptop to shutdown… albeit just more like 20 minutes into it, instead of 45 seconds.I’ve tested laptops that required 90 watt adapters with 65 watt adapters. Is it dangerous? No. The laptop isn’t going to explode. The power adapter isn’t going to explode. The battery isn’t going to explode. What *will* happen then? All depends. Nothing might happen. Or… the laptop might turn off because it is trying to draw more power than is available. But it won’t explode. It won’t rise up and attack you either because you are starving it of power.

Can I solder my laptop power supply to my battery terminals?

so.. my pavilion (dv7-3173nr) crapped out on me, the computer wont recognize the charger. my friend has the same comp so i swapped in his charger and nothing, then I tried his battery and my laptop came back, i put my charger and battery on his laptop and it worked fine. so im sure the terminal that the power supply plugs into on the laptop is broken. since I can still supply power through the battery.....
