How To Text This In A British Accent

Do you ever get the urge when you meet new people to talk in other accents?

I like to try my British accent out and my New York/ New Jersey accent out. SOmetimes when I'm bored I'll talk in a British accent for days on end. (My natural accent is a southern accent, North Carolina coastal plains if that tells you anything) and thing I just try to talk in a "normal"(for lack of a better word) accent where I talk with no particular accent. How bout you?

How to talk in a british accent over texting?

Say stuff thats stereotypically something that an english person would say.(like "Ello' govna'" or chap, etc..) You could also try spelling the word like you would pronounce it to make it more understandable. Like for example, you could write "MacDonalds" instead of McDonalds or something like that.

Need a site for writing in british accent?

that doesnt really make sense... do you mean how to write as if you would speak phonetically with one of the british accents (presumably upper-class english) or a site that teaches you how to spell properly in english regardless of accent?

this might help but some of them arent the best so you should cross-reference http://www.thefreedictionary.com/tuna

look out for letter "t" as americans pronounce this often as "d"
letter "u" which is often pronounced as "oo"
"ew" which is often pronounced as "oo"
"ile" pronounced as "ul"

and a few random ones "vehicle" is usually only 2 syllables in british, "oregano" is pronounced much differently, "herb" is not pronounced as "erb" in british, "aluminium" is different from "aluminum", "moscow" does not have a "cow" in it since its a v in russian

you will just have to be around british speakers or watch a lot of british media to get used to it

Why do people in the past all have British accents?

In American movies set anywhere in the world, as long as it's between the 1500s and 1800s they speak with a British accent.

WHY?

examples:

The Count of Monte Cristo
set in France, but with English accents.

Casanova
set in Italy, but with English accents

The Red Violin
set all around the world, but all with English accents.

Spanish accents?

Colombia.
Argentina, but their "j" is more like the "z" in azure.
Some parts of Mexico. It varies depending on the speaker and their mood (y sounds more like a j when the speaker is excited).

Is it normal to converse with an American accent but read in a British accent?

Yes, I experience that alot, especially when I’m reading novels that are written by British authors. My imagination becomes more vivid when a story is read in a British accent; it makes the stories come alive. And also reading in a British accent has often allowed me to remember most of the contents from a book.I think this has to do with being exposed more to British books and shows when I was a kid. But for whatever reason, whenever I read most books and other resources, the British accent always comes up in my mind.Haha, in fact as I write this answer, I could be thinking with a British accent and parts of this text could end up including words and terms that are often seen in British speech and texts, but not really used in American and Canadian speech and texts.

What the best speech to text API for UK accent?

Basically all STT APIs can deal with UK accent. Our team choose ListenByCode. Speech to text API Documentation after some use case tests (especially UK accent). So far our project only deal with machine level transcription, so I will say listenbycode is winner in our project. For a nearly “perfect” transcription, you can choose some other approach like “machine + human correction”. BTW, IBM Google, AWS, MS are all having STT service available in market. Hope this will help.

Why do most Chinese speak British English?

Actually, nowadays the people around me and those who speaks English on television are more likely to speak American English. When i began to learn English in primary school in 2003, most schools in the city where i live used the textbooks called Oxford English.(There is also another book called Cambridge English similar to another person had mentioned above) And what we learned is the International Phonetic Alphabet.I think it’s kind of like the received standard English. But we don’t learn much. Actually most Chinese student don’t learn and speak English well. For most people, i guess what makes them sound like speaking British English is only few words which have the different pronounciation.(for example the simple words like: dance, can’t…)But when i get in to senior high school, we use another textbook in which the audio sounds like American English. It’s a little confusing and it sometimes makes some people who don’t learn well speak some words in British accent and others in American accent. So it seems to me is that actually nowadays more people speaks American English in China now because there are lots of TV programs that young people like to watch are from US. And to some extend, the American English is easier to pronounce and also more popular around the world. Still, some people prefer the British English cause it sounds really cool. I like British English too although i don’t speak it.(xD) But it sound honorable, and reminds me of the Royals,it’s like when you speak in British accent, you’ll be a gentleman or an elegant lady.

Can I choose accent and gender in the text-to-speech feature of Google Translate?

It seems you can not directly choose the accent and gender but there are nevertheless some options for you:You can try using different different country-specific domains, e.g. http://translate.google.fi, http://translate.google.co.uk, etc. This seems to have some effect on the accent and the gender. You can also use some other text-to-speech -service. E.g. Acapela group - Voice synthesis - Text to Speech has lots of different gender and accent options.
