How To Travel On A Budget When Choosing A Resort

What do you consider when choosing a hotel?

While choosing a hotel, I exercise certain “self-made” policies, which most of the times are spot on. Of course, as I said most of the times, which also sometimes goes the other way. The tips I follow while choosing a hotel includes,Reputation of the place: This is something, which many will choose to agree ! A hotel with good reputation is something to acknowledge.Amenities: Like reputation, amenities are the next most important points, which allows us to figure out the plus and minuses in a particular hotel.Distance: Now sometimes according to situations, there might be hotels near the place we intend to visit ( may be for sight seeing, official or any others), in this case, distance from the particular point is a major factor.Tariff: Normally, I can adjust to the modest hotel rooms while traveling solo or even with my good friends, but while traveling with family, I choose rooms and hotels with a little higher tariff. Quite frankly, I have even stayed in rooms which even didn’t have basic amenities while traveling with friends for a super cheap rate. So choose wisely on the hotels, and feel free to choose any rooms, which will be best suited for you.Food: Perhaps the last point, while food is important in some cases, but predominantly this is not a great necessity I expect from any hotel. Let’s face it, if we are traveling anywhere across the globe, there might be a modest food joint, supplying modest food for the least expectations. While all these points matter somewhere or the other, there might be a case where either 1 of these points do not merge with the expectations. In that case, I choose the best among the remaining 4 of these points. Barely I remember, except for 1nce or 2wice, where I had to literally stayed in places which even didn’t have attached toilets or proper beds as well.So choose well, go through both positive as well as critical reviews before booking in any hotel.

What is your experience with all inclusive resorts?

IMHO: there is nothing worse than all inclusive!Because of the all inclusive nature:You are not going out and meet people, won’t try food or services etc outside the resort - because you have to pay there. -1 for learning about people and culture. You will be eating food which is made to please the masses. -1 for healthy and interesting and local food. You will be exposed to people who are interested in consuming as much (alcohol) as possible for their money. -1 for meeting ‘all inclusive’ people - (if you can remember them), and another -1 for not meeting peopleYou will not contribute to the local economy (assuming the resort is outside your home country and/or belongs to a chain). -1 because there are enough people shuffling money into the fat cats pockets without getting their fair shareI have never been in Nassau, but I have travelled a lot - on super low budgets in the early years. My advice is:Choose your travel destination with budget and culture in mind (learning and researching up front about a place is half the fun of travelling).Do not plan too much, maybe book only the first night of your stay. Then connect to people and find your way according to your budget and level of confidence / trust etc.Just relax and let it happen… most people love meeting and connecting with travellers (this comes down to point 1, choosing the destination wisely of course) - and you will have the most beautiful stories to tell when you come home! The best source of information are other travellers, so make sure you meet them! Stay in backpackers / hostels and be open to meet people while on the go (this requires sometimes conscious effort if you are travelling as a couple). And - have fun and don’t take stuff to serious… even if something bad happens, it usually turns out to be at least a good story and valuable experience… mostly though it leads to meeting people and gaining new insights.

Are all-inclusive resorts worth the money?

My parents 30th wedding anniversary is next year and they've never been on a honeymoon. We (my siblings and I) would like to get the family together to send them on one, but we're not cash-rich at the moment and are not sure what the best experience would be for the money. None of us have ever done much travelling. Does anyone have any comments on the value of an all-inclusive resort? Would this be a good honeymoon gift?

Is bora bora to expensive for an average family holiday?

Bora Bora is an amazing place to holiday. Compared to some other island destinations (like Bali or Fiji) it is more expensive. But is is also much more beautiful! There is a variety of accommodation choices to choose from, so you can go for the budget that is right for you. If you are wanting to experience luxury, there are many 5 star hotels that charge around $1000 US per night for their over water bungalows, or you can stay at one of these luxurious resorts in a garden bungalow or beach bungalow for less money. Then there are less fancy resorts for around $200 per night. Or if you want even cheaper, you can stay at a family pension. Honestly though, if you want a wonderful family holiday, choose a great resort in the location thats best for you (eg. do you want to snorkel, do you want a good view of Mt otemanu ect. For more information on choosing a resort check out the Bora Bora Resorts page on the website below. Maybe stay a couple nights in an over water bungalow and the rest in a garden bungalow and your family will have the most amazing time. For upmarket family resorts i would recommend the four seasons and the st regis as they have wonderful kids programs. If you are wanting very nice but not so expensive go for the Intercontinental le moana or the Hilton.
I would also recommend a few days in the island of Moorea for your family, its another beautiful island, different from Bora Bora thats really worth a visit. I highly recommend the Hilton Moorea to stay at, there is gorgeous snorkeling straight off their beach. Moorea has more in-land activities and Bora Bora is more lagoon focused. French polynesia is my most favourite place to holiday. If you family loves playing in the water, sunshine and beautiful scenery your family will love it!

flying there you can either go around to LA and fly in from there, or you can go around the other way and head to either Tokyo or Auckland to get a direct flight to Tahiti. from there you can get a ferry or fly to Moorea. To get to bora bora you must fly from moorea or Tahiti.

hope that helps!
