How Unhealthy Is Skipping Lunch

Can you skip lunch and be healthy about it?

I don't think that is a healthy option. Our digestive system is trained in such a way that it expects to get food in particular times and produces gastric juices for digestion process. Skipping lunch(big meal as per Indians) will lead to dis-balance in digestive system and leads to acidity and gastric problems. You can fool the body by drinking water but the prime problem remains. However, there is another aspect called fasting, in which people don't each on a particular day. But that's not on a random basis and is more fixed to specific dates of a week/month or year. That helps in cleansing the system and giving the digestive system some rest.In general, my mantra of eating is: "Eat a little less that you can eat and work out a little more that you can do"Skipping a meal is not a good option!

Is skipping breakfast and lunch bad for you?

Yes! While I am no dietician, I've worked with many in the past. If you don't eat breakfast or lunch your body goes into "starvation" mode. You sleep 8 hrs, the don't eat break fast or lunch so thats another 10 hours. imagine your body not eating or drinking anything for 18hours!? So when u DO finally eat your body is thinking "since i dont know when the next time this girl is gonna feed me I'm going to store this food as fat! So might be a reason people are overweight, cuz they binge later in the day.
Have You ever seen poor little Kids in Africa that are stick thin but their bellies are bloated? This could happen to you. There's also many reasons why it's bad ex. vitamin deficiency. Even if you don't like breakfast, you should eat something small jus to put some fuel in your engine.

It may well lead to anorexia if you start cutting out dinner as well and thats a very addicting unhealthy road.

Eat 3 healthy meals a day, drink plenty of water and exercise regularly to give your body the beat chance it has in life! :)

Which is worse: eating unhealthy food or skipping a meal?

Modest amounts of unhealthy food aren't really 'bad', nor is skipping the occasional meal.Your body was designed to skip meals and to survive off of whatever you happen to be able to eat.As long as you get adequate protein, fiber, essential fats, vitamins and minerals, and total calories - whether you get some of those calories from 'junk food' isn't a big deal.  It is only when you get lots of excess calories that is the issue.

Is it unhealthy to skip lunch every day?

As you can see from the answers already given, there are many different points of view and answers to this question, many of them conflicting. Listen to your body, how do you feel when you eat on a schedule like this? Are you hungry? Fatigued? Does ‘lunch time’ pass without you even noticing? We’re all different, what might be an ideal eating schedule for one person might not work for another. A good rule of thumb is if you’re hungry, then eat, if not, then don’t.

Is it ok if I skip lunch and breakfast?

Yes absolutely. Check out intermittent fasting. People specifically skip lunch or breakfast to eat in a smaller window. When you eat in a smaller window, it is usually easier to eat less calories to help you lose weight. In some cases you can over eat due to hunger but if you can control the amount of foods you take in during a shorter eating window, you can actually reap the benefits of insulin sensitivity and fat burning hormone. You can learn more info on this below from the skipping breakfast video:Hopefully this helps and for additional info on nutrition and health:Long Term Weight Loss & HealthFitness & NutritionFinally I do want to point out that intermittent fasting is not for everyone and if you tend to over eat during a shorter eating window, there is nothing wrong with eating breakfast and lunch. As mentioned in the video you should do what works the best for you. Your health and weight are determined by your overall calorie/macro/micro intake over the course of days or even weeks not just one day or one meal.Best of luck!

Is it unhealthy to skip meals, then make up for it by one large meal on a regular basis?

I am quite active. I have a busy schedule and usually eat 2 very large meals a day. I’ve been doing this since high school.Contrary to popular belief, eating less frequent, larger meals does NOT cause you to gain weight. Gaining weight is simply from eating more calories than you burn.If your energy levels are fine and you don’t feel groggy or lethargic by eating the way you do, then you should be absolutely fine. You said you eat generally healthy, so I’m assuming your micronutrient intake is up to par which is good.Feast your heart away.Edit: As others have mentioned below, this is a process called Intermittent Fasting which actually helps you burn fat by forcing your body to rely on stored fat as energy instead of food from frequent eating.
