How does it feel to work in the United Nations?
I have had the experience to work in UN and i regard it as the best time of my professional life.The feeling is wonderful, you got to work in a multicultural environment and your nature of job is such that you keep on shifting places if you are an international staff. The local staff have less opportunities of moving to different countries.The UN staff is very well paid. Also you are satisfied that you are doing something for the needy people ( depending on your nature of job). Overall you enjoy the life in UN
What is the purpose of the United Nations?

It provides the opportunity for countries to balance global interdependence and national interests when addressing international problems. Toward these ends it ratified a Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948. Membership - 192 member countries Relationship of the UN and the international business is coursed through the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) that assists the General Assembly in promoting international economic and social cooperation and development. ECOSOC has 54 members, all of whom are elected by the General Assembly for a three-year term. The president is elected for a one-year term and chosen amongst the small or middle powers represented on ECOSOC. ECOSOC meets once a year in July for a four-week session. Since 1998, it has held another meeting each April with finance ministers heading key committees of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Viewed separate from the specialized bodies it coordinates, ECOSOC's functions include information gathering, advising member nations, and making recommendations. In addition, ECOSOC is well-positioned to provide policy coherence and coordinate the overlapping functions of the UN’s subsidiary bodies and it is in these roles that it is most active. The organization occupies itself at present in the fields of economic development, world health, the state of the environment, the health of animals, education, and refugee work. How does one apply for the United Nations Administrative Support Assessment Test (UN ASAT)?
- You dont apply for the test. You apply for the vacancies and if they like your profile they will ask Human Resources to call for the test and then even if you dont get the job your profile will stay in record. Its not only in NY it is also in other UN offices. I think the UNDP offices are the only ones which have waived this test in the case of people with a university degree. And passing of the test doesnt mean that you will get a job, the decision will be based on your qualifications and experience. The test is quite frequent. There is not set dates for it, depends on how many vacancies are advertised and how many outside candidates will be considered who need the test. Yes, you dont need to work for UN to take the test but it will be better if you know someone inside who can help you in getting invited :D I agree that you dont have much on the internet. It was previously called "UN Clerical test" so google it and you will get the sample too. Need more info ask me.
