How Would Race Relations In The Us Be If We Didn

How did the space race impact relations between US and USSR?(60's space race)did it lead to their cooperation?

The space race between the US and the USSR was just one of the very outward public signs of competition between the governments of these two countries. The cold war was already in full swing, and the competition for the 'hearts and minds' of people in countries world wide became an important 'measure' of who had the upper hand in this 'war'. The US and USSR competed globally in many venues, among them were the Olympics, Aid to foreign countries, offers of military training to help stabilize various governments, and yes, the race for space dominance.

The space race was fueled by more than the cold war, however. From the time that the Soviets put the first Sputnik satellite into space, both the Soviets and the Americans realized the important advantage that space would give us in the ability to gather military intelligence on other countries. The other gravely dangerous potential with the space race was the potential ability of the US and USSR (among other countries) to use space as a 'weapon' against the other country. But this prospect freaked everyone out so much that in 1967, The US, the USSR, and the UK signed the Outer Space Treaty, which bars the signatories from placing nukes or other weapons of mass distruction in space.

It was other factors that led the US and USSR into cooperation, not the space race. Both countries clearly benifited from the cooperation between the two countries that led to cooperation in space. But cooperation in Space was a result of the thaw in relations between the US and the USSR, not the cause of the thaw.

Hope this helps.

What do you think of race relations in America?

Race relations in the U.S. have improved since the 50s, true, but I sense a subtle ...backsliding.

In my opinion, it's because there are people who are so busy being black that they forget to be Americans, first.

What do *I* do...? For one thing, I refuse to use the ridiculous term "African-American". If you hold a U.S. passport, you are American, not Ethiopian, Zimbabwean, or South African.

I refuse to acknowledge "Kwanzaa", which is not only racist (a holiday for blacks...? How separatist.), but made up, as well.

I don't let people's color influence me when it comes time to hire, or to vote. As a result, I have many black people (one of them really IS African!) on my staff, and I have voted for many candidates for public office who just happen to be browner than I am.

Finally, I do not tolerate racist remarks in my presence; and, I don't care WHAT color the speaker is, the "n" word is ugly, and I won't allow it.

Are Race Relations Really that Bad in America?

I keep seeing stories all over the news about how bad race relations are. I live in California, where race relations are actually pretty great here. I haven't been able to travel very much so I just wanted to ask, what are race relations like in the area you live in and what part of the country do you come from?

Race Relations in Iceland?

I am an young African American woman (inexperienced traveler) who is planning on visiting Iceland for the first time this October, but lately I have been very concerned about race relations there. I can t find anything on the subject. I didn t see any reviews from black travelers on the hostel that I want to stay at. Also, I just read a really nasty racist comment about how majority white countries don t like black people (it came from a so called local). If anyone could shed light on this for me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Will we ever repair race relations in America?

We can’t “repair” what was never good. Will we ever fix race relations in the U.S.A.? I certainly hope so. As a naïve child who survived the Civil Rights era, I thought everything was fixed back then. I was so wrong.I will say that things are very, very slowly getting slightly better. It’s frustrating how long this is taking, but within my memory we’ve gone from separate bathrooms and separate movie theaters to having the first black President of the United States, and I got to vote for him! How fantastic is that?In addition, with mixed marriages, we’re gradually producing a nation of people with an attractive diversity of skin colors. It makes it harder to oppress someone on the basis of skin color. The problem is, we humans will find something else to divide us. Politics. Religion. The clothes we choose to wear. Tattoos. The land our ancestors came from. We’ll find something to hate.

Do you think race relations are getting worse?

You know the answer already, "They're a sick group of people."
I find it hilarious how you ask if race relations are getting worse, when you say white people are "a sick group of people." Right now it's YOU that's causing race relations to get worse, that's why! You generalized a whole group. Keep your generalizations to yourself..

You miss are an idiot, a racist idiot.
