How Would Science And Technology Help You If There Were A Natural Disaster In Your Area

How would science and technology help you if there were a natural disaster in your area?

My house catches fire. A fire truck arrives powered by a diesel engine designed by science. It sprays foam ( also develeped by science ) on my house to put out the fire. Dried food ( develepod & prepared by science ) is flown in to the region on airplanes ( develepod by science ) to feed the hungry.

Frankly unless your living in the Garden of Eden almost anything you come in contact with was developed by some form of science.

How to prevent from natural disaster?

you cant prevent them , that's why they are called ''Natural'' disasters , the world healing itself from all the things we are destroying it with.

What are the advantages of science and technology?

The application of science and technology in day to day life is getting more and more. Science and technology have made the life safe, secure and comfortable. It revolutionized our life. The main advantages are:Advances in technology made life simple and comfortableEasy access to informationAdvancement in communication and transportationDifferent jobs and wisdomSaving a lot of timeBetter education. We should say, knowledge in finger tip. But, It is said that "Science is a good and useful servant but it is a bad destructive master."(image sources: Google images)

Why can't natural disasters be stopped?

Japan has made lots of preparations for earth quakes and tsunamis and spends over $20 million dollars per year to do so. Yet despite decades of preparation they were powerless to stop these events. However their preparations in earth quake resistant buildings, tsunami flood gates and warning systems has probably saved countless lives. (Note you cannot predict when and where an earth quake will strike) Did you notice the large amount of video taken within buildings during the quake and note how much they were being shaken. Did you also notice how many buildings have NOT collapsed? (Compare to the hati quake) This is a testament to their preparation.

Application of technology is always a compromise with economics. Design is also a compromise between functionality and competing priorities including the likely hood of a given type of disaster. Yes you can make a cyclone proof house for that once in a century storm that may blow by but will that house be economical to buy and maintain or functional for other uses?

>>>Make more dams<<<
Consider how much trouble and effort goes into making just one dam. Never mind the opposition by those who don't want to see another dam being built or its effect on ecology.

A natural disaster destroys a big part of the earth. If you could save one book you think can help rebuild the world, which one would it be?

The Knowledge, how to rebuild our world from scratch by Lewis DartnellThe following is the official describing of the book because it's a long time since I read it.Regarded as one of the brightest young scientists of his generation, Lewis Dartnell proposes that the key to preserving civilization in an apocalyptic scenario is to provide a quickstart guide, adapted to cataclysmic circumstances. The Knowledge describes many of the modern technologies we employ, but first it explains the fundamentals upon which they are built. Every piece of technology rests on an enormous support network of other technologies, all interlinked and mutually dependent. You can’t hope to build a radio, for example, without understanding how to acquire the raw materials it requires, as well as generate the electricity needed to run it. But Dartnell doesn’t just provide specific information for starting over; he also reveals the greatest invention of them all—the phenomenal knowledge-generating machine that is the scientific method itself. This would allow survivors to learn technological advances not explicitly explored in The Knowledge as well as things we have yet to discover.I do remember this guy even talks about how to grow your own vegetables, and the four field crop rotation system and so on. This book bundles all the knowledge we need to make a restart in civilisation.

What simple technology is missing to make our lives easier?

There is a simple technical thing that could transform society, and it's already available. It is a way to call for appropriate help very, very easily, without needing a big pendant and a monthly bill. One version of this is a wristband like a Fitbit called a Safelet. (safelet.com) If you need help you just touch the screen twice. People you have designated as fellow “Guardians” in your “community of safety” receive a notification and your location, along with an audio clip, and can come to your aid or summon first responders. This function is also available from a Colorado company in the form of a pin that can be attached to the inside collar. It could easily be an app for a smart watch: press the function button three times to send a distress call.Originally intended to keep women safer from assault, this is the missing link between need and response when the situation is too critical for dealing with retrieving the phone and then bringing up the phone app and entering 911. That's just not practical during an assault or many other emergencies—medical, crime, fire, active shooter, and any other extreme emergency. So much attention is devoted to what happens AFTER an assault, or changing the behavior of possible victims beforehand —especially curtailing the freedom of women to move about. Just think how different things could be if we could fill that gap between beforehand and after with this simple device. If a criminal knew help for his victim was on the way as soon as he made his criminal move, or if you knew you or a loved one could summon help instantly in the event of a medical emergency or accident, think how much safer we could all be.Just another app won't do it. Takes too long, too complicated. A separate device or a smart watch button dedicated to safety is what it takes to minimize that agonizing gap between need and help. A community of safety could be a step to unify us in ways usually seen only after natural disasters. There it is… simple tech that could make us all feel safer.

Why do scientists think they know more about science than politicians? Gore wouldn't LIE!?

Is Technology Good or Bad?

there is no source, its just common sense really

Technology is good:
it has given us the ability to understand the way thing work
it has shown us about germs and how to prevent the spreading of germs, eg soap
it has helped us save lives and develop cures for diseases
its thanks to technology that we can build hospitals and the equipment used in them
it has helped us with communications so when a natural disaster strikes, we can organize aid and even if there isn't a natural disaster we can just chat anyway

the problem with technology:
is that with people living longer it means that there are over crowding problems
is that with emails and texting, fewer letters are sent so postal forces such as the royal mail are having to sack people
is that with more people watching TVs, using computers, leaving lights on this shall contribute to global warming
is that people are becoming fat because they aren't doing enough exercise because rather than playing with your mates in the park you can chat to more people sitting at home on the computer

hope this helps
