How Would You Deal With A Person That Comes Into A E In Cuffs

Why do American police always handcuff the people they arrest?

The first time i was arrested i definately would have attempted some sort of escape had i not been handcuffed. I was quite polite to the officers and had it been at their discression i probably wouldnt have been handcuffed. At the first opportunity i would have been gone. Later arrests i would not have made any attempt to flee. Handcuffs are rarely used correctly by cops in my expierience. Many seem to take advantage of the average person's lack of understanding of the locking mechanism. If they only use the first lock they will continue to tighten after abrupt movements. Once you are in their vehicle they have gotten to the point where they are beyond uncomfortable and most likely causing visible damage. The second lock prevents this but i have never seen a cop use it. In fact, i have had experieces where 2 sets of cuffs were used and neither were locked correctly. EDIT:The most recent time that a cop put me in hancuffs he actually used the second lock. I was very appreciative. This was just a week ago.

What's a good way to tie up someone?

There are two levels to this question. The first is the materials used in this process. The answer on that is pretty much anything that you can wrap around someone to the point that they cannot unwrap it without special tools. Rope would probably be the most obvious, with the knots out of reach from the hands. Similarly, scarves have the same capacity. There are dedicated restraints, such as handcuffs, leg irons, etc. One could use something like zipper ties that can be opened only with a cutting device (police use these where large numbers are restrained). There are even non-traditional materials, such as plastic wrap, which if applied properly can be effective as a restraining tool.

The second level is the form of binding. That mostly depends on the circumstance and the tools available. For example, with handcuffs, they can really only be used around the wrists, or possibly small ankles.

If you are looking at restraining someone against their will (such as a burglar that you've caught breaking into your house; I wouldn't recommend anything criminal), you will want something that is fairly immoblising. A very easy to apply format would be to bind their wrists behind their back, then bind the ankles together, then connect the two bindings together to form a hog-tie. It shouldn't be used for very long as there is a risk of positional asphyxia, but it should be sufficient until the constables arrive.

For voluntary "victims", it would depend on how much they would permit. Some will only go as far as having one wrist cuffed to a bedpost. Some will allow a great deal of latitude, such as the hog-tie described earlier.

Wrapping someone with rope works pretty well, but care has to be used as certain pressure points will react unfavourably with rope knots. There are several books on the subject that deal with rope bondage, as well as a few online resources.

As always, the form and equipment used will depend on what your intent is. If you have a willing subject, I would suggest determining what they will permit and are in the mood for, then work from that.

How to fix smith and wesson nickel handcuffs?

It is unusual for them to jam like that. Perhaps something is caught under the locking piece. If the spring broke it may not pay to even attempt a repair as they are riveted. I would spray some WD-40 into the cuff and then try the lock after it has sat for a while. If it is no better then i would use compressed air to try and dislodge anything that might be holding it. All it takes is a twig or a seed to prevent movement. Unless it has broken a spring it should work. Good Luck!

If police officers run out of handcuffs when arresting a lot of criminals, is dental floss a good subsitute?

You know for awhile the American Dental Association had a cooperative venture with the Chiefs of Police Association and actually used these.
It was a small test project, and it worked so well that the powerful handcuff manufacturers lobby took prompt legal action to stop this. They claimed that it would put thousands of American handcuff workers at Peerless and Smith & Wesson out of business.
To make the story short, the powerful corporate entities won, and you and I have to pay the difference in cost with our tax dollars. Dental floss is so cheap, it was great while it lasted, and we didn't have to worry about not having something to floss with when we got thru with our donut breaks (which as all citizens know is all we are allowed to eat on duty).
The bad thing was, if a supervisor caught you flossing your teeth with city issued floss it was a big hassle. They had specially marked the packages with badges, and the floss was blue so it was easy to spot.. Talk about busted by the man, our Sergeants would hunt down floss violators in their patrol cars with a vengeance. Fortunately I was able to conceal my floss violations in small out of the way places because I was on a motorcycle...

In One Piece, why was Portgas D. Ace killed so easily despite his reputation for being invincible from his childhood?

Why was he killed so easily? He was not.First of all it is an Admiral, now the head of Navy who killed him. Not just an another character. Second of all he was defeated in the fight with BlackBeard, then imprisoned in Impel Down's deepest level all the time shackled with Kairoseki stone made handcuffs. That should have drained what ever energy he might be having.Third one is generally in One Piece, till the new world(Fish Man island) everyone who has good logia devil fruit power were considered strong. Logia > Paramecia> Zoan was the general thought. Because of logia's ability to evade attacks easily etc. But the concept of Haki just nullifies it. Even logia guys get hit if the attack comes from a fist of love:P. So its not like he as invincible, he was shown invincible when our Luffy was at grand line.Ace died to protect Luffy. That attack was aimed at Luffy. He might have jumped in well knowing that he would die, not some "I am logia, I am gonna survive that" or otherwise. The punch of Sakazuki contains magma and he explains it burns even fire when he burns Ace's arm.Nobody worth mentioning is such a vague word because it was whitebeard pirates vs Navy not pirates vs navy. As to why Luffy survived, its because Ace,Jinbei, whitebeard pirates and Law saved Luffy.Edit:-Seriously I thought Ace didnt know haki. He was never shown using haki. At least until he died. And Haki counteracts Haki, Aokiji Shows that but that might require skill. My second point was not just about kairoseki stone, he was in Impel down, he was tortured there in deepest level. Thats gotta count for something.

Does social class still influence people's life chances and lifestyle?

The social class that we inherit at birth determines almost everything about our identities. It determines our access to health care, few street people get the same attention and care in a hospital that Ted Kennedy does.
Social Class determines our access to higher education, again, you will find very few Harvard graduates living in Maytag boxes.

Social Class determines how the law is applied to us...for example, an executive suspected of embezzling millions from a pension fund will be invited by the police for questioning, and arranges with his lawyer a date for surrender.

On the other hand, a member of the lower class who steals a 6 pack of beer will find himself face down on the pavement, cuffed and thrown in the back of a cruiser in moments, without an agreed upon date of surrender...so much for being equal under the eyes of the law.

In spite of the generally accepted myth that everyone can rise above their inherited class, those cases are few and far between. Most people stay in the class that they were born into, but with a class system, as opposed to a Caste arrangement, at least there is a chance at vertical mobility.
