How Would You React To Being Called A Gadje

If vampires hate garlic? do Italian vampire still hate garlic?

No they still love it. When biting into the neck of their chosen victim, they quickly season it with garlic.

How do Romas treat Roma people who marry non-Romas?

Greetings & Salutations. I do enjoy these answers; however, there is actually no textbook answer for “How do Roma treat Roma who marry non-Roma”. The answer is the interpretation of the Romaniye, and the country & conditions which they currently live. For instance, Neil’s answer is true for some Kumpania in North & South America. However, there are plenty of other communities which also call a kris for marrying Irish & Scottish Travellers (who are NOT Romani), or marrying outside of their particular “country/region” (e.g. Roma marrying Sinti, both Romani people but different sub-groups) is also a reason to call one. And still marrying Gadji (non-Romani) to some communities is NOT breaking the Romaniye.Sensationalism, Romanticism, and Old-World prejudices of Romani and Gadje alike, are more issues in opposing marriages than the Romaniye; which gets the blame for these things when it should not. Romaniye states (translations/interpretations) that we are to keep blood, breath, and culture alive. It also states that there “no faith, no religion, that supersedes our families (blood) and our Old Ways” (Yet, many of our people follow the New Way of Christianity, and have forgot who Sara e Kali, before she became a “Saint”), “no theft within our community” (because another “Rule” states that “no just need will be refused within just cause”). Like any protective cultural legal system, there are those who bend, break, or plead ignorance of rules. And there are reasons for these transgressions occurring; one being our occupations are no longer ties to our families (as a result of Industrialization and the decimation under the Nazi, and Stalin Communism). So back to the topic, I have married a Gadje. Our children are learning more about the Romaniye than I knew at their age. They are learning the traditions, the language, and that there is no shame about who we all are. Like ANY cultural community, be it Scottish, Mexican, Nigerian, or Japanese; there are those to will stay within their cultural communities. Whether the reason is protection of others, preserving their traditions, or because they fear who they do not know. It is not just a Romani thing ;)
