How You Can Hide The Results Of Growing Older

Why don't physicians order cultures more often before prescribing Antibiotics?

Ha. Strange question..I admit. Just looking for any insider info.

As many are aware...their is a growing incidence of antibiotic resistant organisms in the community..partially related to the old practice of prescribing antibiotics for every cough, sniffle and sneeze.

So knowing this, (when I can) I try hard to give my body a chance to fight any infection before running to the Dr. Surprisingly, alot of things do clear on their own for me.

Anyway, recently I had a horrible "sinus infection"...and it was very painful and I needed to get back to work quick so I went to my Dr.

So based on my description, my Dr concluded that it was a bacterial infection, and that I needed Omnicef antibiotics 300 mg, twice per day for 10 days. She did not do a culture.

I kinda do think it was an infection because sinus infections tend to be bacterial...apparently.

But many times symptoms between a viral cold and a upper respiratory infection are quite similar...even your mucus that is yellow or green can be in response to a viral or bacterial infection..(it turns green because WBC from YOUR immune system flood to the area of the infection)

So at any rate, this situation got me thinking. If this resistant bacteria thing and over-use of antibiotics is common knowledge and such a big deal.....then why hasn't culturing before prescribing become a more common practice?

And...in a follow-up/bonus question: How on earth could a physician know which antibiotic will work on a given infection if a culture and sensitivity is not done?

Thanks!

What does it mean that my doctors said I was “growing out of autism” at two years old?

It probably means your doctor didn’t know what they were talking about. Autism is not something a person can grow out of. If you are autistic at the age of two, you will still be autistic when you grow up. You may learn many skills in your childhood and adolescence; you may learn how to speak and how to write, you may develop coping strategies to deal with changes and adverse sensory input, you may be taught how to recognize some social cues and expectations, and you may reach the point when people who meet you think you are not very different from everyone else, and no one would think you are autistic unless you say it. But your brain will still function like an autistic brain, and you will still have your symptoms, even if you are able to hide them.

As a 24 YO, how long can you hide effects of mtf hrt?

A personal anecdote. There was one day during my early transition that required me to present male. I knew for months that day was coming (but not exactly when) and didn't want to delay starting my transition because of one day. Even a day important enough to force me to present male.On that day I had been doing HRT and electrolysis for about 9 months and living full time for 6 months. I had saved some male clothes for the occasion. I wore a dark shirt with a sport coat draped open all day and nobody who didn't already know would have suspected—which made me both happy and sad at the same time. I'm sure you understand. Now to try to answer your question directly…Unfortunately nobody can give you the definitive answer you're looking for. There are lots of variables. At 5′7″ and 123 lbs you sound like you have a slight frame, but you may not. So let's start with bone structure. Once you go through a male puberty no amount of HRT will alter your skeleton. Surgery can help alter some areas, but not all. So do you have a prominent brow ridge? Square jaw? Flat cheekbones? Broad shoulders? Barrel chest? All of these will read masculine—and, conversely, the lack of them will read feminine—and none of them will be affected by HRT.How about ethnic heritage? Do you have a heavy, dark beard? HRT alone will not clear it. How about lots of arm and chest hair? If so it will take HRT longer to reduce it.Delivery method for your hormones; pill (swallowed or sublingual), patch, or injection? Swallowing pills will take the longest. Is your hormone regimen purely estradiol or will you also be taking an anti-androgen? What about progesterone? Estradiol alone will definitely take the longest and may never get the results you're hoping for without adding at least an anti-androgen.Which brings us to your current hormone levels. Is your current testosterone level above normal or high-normal? If so HRT will take longer unless you can get your testosterone level under control. I was on HRT for about 9 months before my testosterone levels were on target. If you are getting your hormones through an endocrinologist (please do this if at all possible) they will order the necessary blood tests as a matter of course.Congratulations on deciding to live an authentic life! I wish you the best. Enjoy your journey.

My son's penis is hiding all the time inside his body. Is this serious?

He is 6 months old. When he was born his penis size was normal. As he grew older his penis hid inside his body . His urination is normal but the penis does not get out or stretch. There is no fibrosis or adherences.I clean it all the time and stretch the skin flap over it in order to clean it. I am wondering why isnt his penis growing the same rate his body is.Should I take him to doctor or is this normal?
