Hvac Will Run In On But Turns Off When Switched To Heat Or Cool

Why is my AC turning on the heater even on cooling mode?

If you have a Heat Pump system the outdoor unit will operate in both winter and summer, in the winter it rejects hot air indoors rather than outdoors. This is for electric heat.If you have gas heat. The Thermostat controls the low voltage(24 volts) supplied by a transformer in the furnace, 24 volts is a safe voltage and wont hurt anyone who is wetAt the thermostat andat the furnace behind the cover the thermostat wires attach you will see terminals R,W,Y,G and C.They stand for RED, WHITE, YELLOW, GREEN and COMMON. Common can be any other color, it has no set color as RED

Why will a fan keep running even when the furnace thermostat is off?

Well it really depends on what time of fuel source you have and what type of thermostat you have. If you have an inficon controller then it could be one of the settings in the installation process. If it is an older furnace (not a brand new install) and just started doing it then it could be an ignition failure. If it fails to prove the flame or fails to make the inducer pressure switch, the furnace (only gas furnaces) will go into lockout for a set period. After 3 tries it will go into a hard lockout and the blower will run for 3? Hours before it tries to cycle on again. It is also possible that you have your fan switch switched to on instead of auto.If it is an electric furnace it is possible that your fan relay is failed closed continuing to power allow power to the fan. It is also possible that you have a bad sequencer and so the fan is continuing to run but the electric strip isn’t energizing. The symptoms would be similar to the info provided but you would likely never reach the temperature you wanted to heat your home to unless your electric furnace is oversized.Lastly if you do have a gas furnace it’s possible that it’s oversized for the home or the existing duct work if it’s a newer install and it is going out on high limit to protect the heat exchanger from damage. The same thing would occur with a faulty high limit switch or a bad control board.I didn’t talk about oil furnaces but the high limit switch would be possible on this too.

HVAC AC fan runs randomly even when the AC is off.?

My Lennox system has a feature where I can (on the thermostat) set it to circulate. That will make the fan come on for a set period of time then shut off for a set period of time. It cycles on and off several times over the course of a day. Maybe your thermostat has a similar feature.

Hope this helps.

'av'a g'day mate.

PLEASE HELP!! central air unit not blowing cool air, actually not blowing hardly any air!! 90 degrees in here?

It sounds like the blower motor in the air handler that circulates the cold air over the evaporator coils inside your home is not working. Can you hear the blower running? If that fan is not running, make sure a breaker hasn’t been tripped. Chances are, the motor has gone out and will need to be replaced. You did say the fan outside for the condenser is running, and the compressor should be working if the lines are cold.

If the case is that the blower motor on the evaporator is out, you can use what ever portable fans you have to try and pull air out of the vents, but the blower fan will need to be replaced. These motors are usually less than $100, but someone will need to install it.

I have also seen the evaporator coils inside the air handler freeze up, and you would notice a puddle of water around the unit on the floor or in the vents. In that case you would feel some air coming out of the vents, but it would not be as cold as it should be. It this is the case, switch the thermostat to fan only, turning off the ac, and this will thaw out the coils in the air handler in a hour or so. You may have clogged drain for the evaporator (which drains the condensation away from the air handler), the evaporator coils may be too dirty and need to be cleaned, or you may just have the thermostat turned down too low.

Home AC Problems -- Turns Off Too Soon

My home AC turns off before cooling the house. This started the other night. Thermostat is set to 75 and inside house temp is 84. I have set the thermostat to cool and the AC will come on for about 10 mins but then shuts off. This repeats through out the day...coming on and starting to cool but then shutting off.

when the system shuts off, there is a slight whine from the air handler. (new sound as of last night)

Any ideas? Faulty Thermostat telling the AC to shut off prematurely?

HVAC Blower Fan Will Not Shut Off?

Head off to your heater evacuate the administration board and draw detached the green wire from the heater board, now if your blower keeps on running after that, reinstate the blower transfer

HVAC: Compressor turns off after a few minutes, shuts off, but fan runs continuously. What's going on?

I have my central A/C set to run with the fan on auto, so it only runs when the A/C is running.

Earlier today I noticed that the house wasn't cooling down and just toom temperature air was blowing out of the vents. On the thermostat the actual temp was much higher than the set temp. And the fan was running contnuously. (I didn't think to check or listen if the compressor was running.)

I turned everything off for a while and turned it back on.

The compressor started as did the fan. I stood under a vent and I could feel cold air coming out. But after about a minute, the compressor stopped running, but the fan continued running. Cold air stopped coming out of the vent.

What could be going on?

I did notice this morning when I turned on the air that when I flipped the switch, I heard sort of a double click, instead of the usually one click.

I wonder if I have a bad thermostat? Do those things have fuses? It's about 10 years old. It's a Honeywell -- the box kind, not the round kind.

Why does my air conditioner turns off after about 15 minutes?

This issue is an issue that can be resolved by a authorized repair technician only. Here is a possible list of issuesThe compressor is leaking oil. Thus it is overheating and shutting down within 15 minutes, The oil in the compressor cools the compressorThere is grime or dirt build up in the outside condenser unit, This is preventing the heat teansfer from happening from inner unit to outer unit, causing tyhe compressor to overheat and shutdownThere may be many other points of failure, but normally (at least in India) are not solvable by self help, because the ACs are not designed for customer repair. So call the Authorized service center and get your AC unit looked at

In HVAC, how many lines can you run off of one main line?

I am going to give you a mini-crash course, given that your question is more complex that you might think.

You have about 400 cubic feet per minute of air movement from each ton of air. A three-ton unit, for example, has about 1200 c.f.m's of air. Your 14" line can handle about 1000 c.f.m's depending on the length of the run. Three 6' lines, drawing less than 200 c.f.m's apiece, certainly haven't drawn down all of the capacity of the 14" duct, so we have to start looking for other answers.

1. How are the lines run? Is there a triangle, or a tapered junction box that transfers the air neatly to the 6" runs?

2. How is the 14" duct tied into the air handler? Is this trunk line serving other lines as well? Is this the only line off the plenum (ductwork at the top of the air handler)

3. What size is your unit? Is it large enough to service the living space? (you need abbout 1 ton of air per 500 sq. ft.)

4. What is the condition of your equipment? Is there sufficiant refrigerant? Is the evaporator coil clean and unobstructed? Is the compressor functioning? Is the condenser coil (outside) deteriorated? Is the filter clean? (washable filters are a big problem)

5. What is the condition of your insulation? Do you have r-30 in your attic?

6. 6" ducts will typically only do a small room. What sizes are you trying to cool?

7. Are there any tears, seperations, or major leaks in your supply ducts? Is your return air chamber tightly sealed?

8. What is the orientation of the three rooms in question? Do they have a lot of glass? Do they get a lot of sun?

If you can get me some answers to these questions, I'll help you get your rooms cool..
