What does it feel like to take hydrocodone and how effective is it against pain?

Answers so far have only addressed half of the equation, in my opinion. I am a cardiothoracic clinical pharmacist practicing in the intensive care unit, and I see and treat pain on a daily basis. The piece that has already been commented on is that every individual is different and responds differently to a given chemical - this is true.What is also true, though, is that not all pain is created equally nor does it transmit to your brain via the same routes (ie, neurotransmitters). To state the obvious, a broken leg is a different pain than a chronic slipped disc, and a surgically-placed chest tube is a different pain than a migraine. Pain can be categorized as nociceptive, neuropathic, musculoskeletal, somatic, visceral, etc.Hydrocodone would be considered an agent for "moderate pain," Ie, your 4, 5, or 6 out of 10 type. Other agents in this category would include oxycodone, tramadol, and low dose morphine. All of these drugs would be ideal for nociceptive-type pain - stimulus that originates at a source of trauma/injury and travels up to your brain to be interpreted as pain.For your average migraine or diabetic nerve pain, don't expect hydrocodone to provide significant nor sustained benefit.Hydrocodone does have an advantage over those other agents, though, in that it is virtually always combined with acetaminophen (Tylenol). This non-narcotic companion offers a second, unique pain pathway so you are really receiving two treatments in one.When you have the nociceptive pain that hydrocodone/acetaminophen is effective against, it is a very nifty drug. It doesn't often produce the euphoria that one might associate with recreational drugs (unless you are very low body weight or entirely naïve to narcotics), but it can produce a incredible alteration in the way your brain interprets ascending pain signals and relieve significant pain, often for 6-10 hours per dose. Side effects of drowsiness and dizziness also sometimes "help" blunt the pain response,

How to wean off Hydrocodone?

I'm going to wean off hydrocodone. Been taking about 6-7 10mg pills a day for few months. Does anyone have advice on how to wean myself off and do you think I will experience severe withdrawals? I'm scared. Thank you.

What Does Hydrocodone Do If You Dont Need It?

some things you can expect are to
be free of pain (the best part)
drowsy
euphoric (abnormally happy)
very calm, and not worried or stressed about anything.

basically it just relieves any pain, and makes you chillllll and happy.

make sure you eat something before you take it or it can give you a stomach ache.

Should I take hydrocodone before i get into a fight to avoid pain?

I want to tell you that theres always a way out of fights, but we do live in the real world and it can be this way, and if the fight is unavoidable I would suggest NOT taking anything before because your head needs to be clear and this will slow your reaction time, and mental clarity.

I wish you luck and hopefully it doesn't come down to fighting. : )

Vicodin/hydrocodone withdrawl?

I’m sorry to hear that you have been having so much difficulty with stones.

Vicodin (hydrocodone, acetaminophen) is prescribed to treat mild to moderate pain. You can experience withdrawal symptoms when you stop using Vicodin after having used it for a long period of time.

Symptoms of withdrawal can start within 6 to 12 hours of stopping Vicodin. In some people, the symptoms may grow stronger over the next several days, and then gradually subside over a period of several weeks. The intensity and duration of Vicodin withdrawal symptoms vary from person to person.

Symptoms of Vicodin withdrawal may include the following:

* body aches and pains
* intestinal problems such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps
* loss of appetite
* nervousness, restlessness, or irritability
* chills, shivering, or trembling
* trouble sleeping
* fast heartbeat
* fevers
* runny nose or eyes, and sneezing
* gooseflesh
* increased sweating
* increased yawning
* dilated (unusually large) pupils
* depression

The headache, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting that you experienced certainly could have been due to abruptly stopping your Vicodin. Although these withdrawal symptoms may be unpleasant and uncomfortable, they are unlikely to be life-threatening.

I would recommend that you do the following after you have healed from your surgery and you no longer need pain medication:

* To limit withdrawal symptoms, you should not stop taking your Vicodin "cold turkey."
* Talk to your doctor and have her help you slowly wean yourself off the medication. The length of time this takes depends on the amount of Vicodin you were using and how long you used it.
* Let your doctor know if you are experiencing any difficulties while decreasing the medication. Your doctor may want to taper you off the medication at a slower pace.

Also, do not be embarrassed to ask your doctor to help you; most healthcare providers are willing and pleased to help someone stop taking Vicodin.

Asking for help does not mean that you are either abusing Vicodin or that you are an addict.

Vicodin also messes up your bowels - you will feel much better down there once you are clear of it.

good luck !
