I A Need A Little Help Here

Does the song "With a Little Help From My Friends" by the Beatles refer to drugs?

Put simply, hell yes. I could elaborate but the lyric “I get high with a little help…” says it all. If that doesn’t convince you, have a listen to Joe Cocker’s version.I am frankly amazed at all of the “no” answers. You must be either joking or putting a nice sheen on it for future generations. To start with, yes, it’s a song about one’s friends - but one of the main things the singer does with said friends is stated clearly several times. He gets high with a little help from his friends. It could not be more clear. These boys were not saints. Nor were they suddenly introduced to drugs in the mid 60’s. Just some new ones. It’s well documented that they took Preludin, a stimulant similar to amphetamine, and practically lived on it (according to Bill Wyman) since they first went to Hamburg. If you’ve read about the hours that they were required to play, it’s not that surprising. They were smoking pot since Bob Dylan turned them on in ‘64, and baby-faced Paul fell in love with it so much that he wrote “Got to Get You into my Life” for a PLANT. He has admitted it in interviews.A small refresher:“Ooh, did I tell you I need you, every single day of my life?”They were simply having a laugh by having Ringo, of all people, putting it out clear as day. These are not the ramblings of a crazy person. I have read tons of biographical material on the Beatles, and it’s pretty clear that at least weed was a staple of their regular intake.

Is it correct to say "please let me know if you need help" or must I use "whether"?

De’Veon, here is an explanation about whether versus if from a blog I wrote in 2018:Whether ... or not & if | Ruthless Editor Kathleen WatsonWhether and IfWhen using informal language, if and whether can be interchangeable:I wonder if Ben is going to the baseball game.I wonder whether Ben is going to the baseball game.(Both sentences question Ben’s plans to go — or to not go — to the baseball game.)When you’re expressing a choice between two alternatives, use whether:I don’t know whether Ben is going to the baseball game or the basketball game.(Ben will decide to go to one game or the other.)When you substitute if for whether in the same phrasing, you create a statement with a different implication:I don’t know if Ben is going to the basketball game or the baseball game.(Ben could decide to go to neither.)Consider how you would use vocal emphasis if you were speaking each of the last two options:I don’t know whether Ben is going to the baseball game or the basketball game.I don’t know if Ben is going to the basketball game or the baseball game.Whether or notNow consider these examples that show how or not affects meaning:Let Ben know if you would like to go to the baseball game.(This statement requests that you contact Ben only if you choose to go to the game.)Let Ben know whether or not you would like to go to the baseball game.(This statement requests that you contact Ben in either case.)

I need a little help with factoring polynomials. I don't understand it at all!?

Well, I never much liked trying to find the factors by hand. Your other alternative is to find the roots of the polynomial. To find the roots, use the quadratic formula, or complete the square.

Example of how to complete the square:

x² + 11x + 30 = 0
Now, divide 11 by 2, and you get 5.5. So, consider this equation:
(x + 5.5)² = x² + 11x + 30.25

Now, add to or subtract from the original equation to get this form...
x² + 11x + 30.25 = 0.25
(x + 5.5)² = 0.25
x + 5.5 = +/- sqrt(0.25) = +/- 0.5
x = -5 or -6

Now you have the roots, A = -5 and B = -6. The factored equation will be:
(x - A)(x - B)
(x + 5)(x + 6) = x² + 11x + 30

Now for your second expression...
x² - x - 56 = 0
since (-1/2)² = 0.25...
x² - x + 0.25 = 56.25
(x - 0.5)² = 56.25
x - 0.5 = +/- sqrt(56.25)
x = 0.5 +/- 7.5 = 8 or -7
x² - x - 56 = (x - 8)(x + 7)

A little help pronouncing a few phrases of Latin?

In the Taming of the Shrew, Lucentio talks in Latin for a little bit, and I have to read that part out to the class, so I was wondering if anyone could help me pronounce it right? Here's the text:

Hic ibat Simois, hic est Sigeia tellus,
Hic steterat Priami regia celsa senis.

Could you also tell me what it means? So I can read it with a little more emotion...
Thanks a lot

Spanish help with feminine and masculine words?

Actually, it is not all that easy. The general rule is that nouns ending with an "a" are feminine and those ending with "o" are masculine. Apart from that there are other endings that indicate a feminine or masculine word. For feminine nouns these endings are: -ción, -sión, -dad, -tad, -ez. For masculine nouns: -aje, -ón, -r.
But then there are also exceptions to the rule. Here's one example: though "mano" ends with "o", it is feminine "la mano". And nouns of Greek origin ending in -ema and -oma are masculine, e.g. "el problema".

Putting an "a" or "o" at the end of a word (usually adjectives) depends on the gender of the noun it accompanies. Ex.: "el grupo favorito" - "favorito" ends with "o" because "grupo" is masculine. But in "la comida favorita" the noun (comida) is feminine that's why the adjective has the ending "a".

So you see the key to writing adjectives with their respective ending you have to know the gender of the noun. And how to know that, i haven't fully figured out myself. I go by the advice of learning the article along with the noun, so instead of learning the vocab "comida" learn "la comida". Yet a better and less tedious way is to practice and read Spanish as often as you can. If you come across, for example, "la mano" often i believe you can retain the gender better.

Please help. I'mnot looking for someone to do the assignment, I just need help.?

I need help finding the dates of when and where the ship made its stops. And that's it. All I need is this little push and I can finish it.
Here is the assignment:
Develop a ship's log for three days as if you were a scientist aboard the HMS Challenger. For each entry, include a brief statement of where the ship is, what date you were there, and weather conditions – the weather can be very general and fictional.

For Day One: Describe one of the tools that as a scientist, you would use aboard the HMS Challenger. Include how the instrument is used, and describe what types of organisms or samples were recovered using the instrument.

For Day Two: You have the day off today! Describe what types of activities you participated in on board the ship with your other shipmates. Include a description of at least one full meal that you and your shipmates ate that day. Describe how you feel being on-board the ship for such an extended period of time.

For Day Three: Uh-oh!! You are sick!! Describe what type of illness you have, what symptoms you have, how you might have gotten the illness and any possible remedies to the illness that might have been available aboard a ship in the 1850s.

Important: Dates do not need to be consecutive but remember you are on the Challenger. Use the first link on the Resources page to find out where and when they were in each location and then make sure your dates correlate with the location.

Which is correct, "is there anything I can help / help you with / help with"?

- Is there anything I can help? - Unless you are addressing a group of "things," this is wrong.- Is there anything I can help with? - Common enough colloquially, but to me it feels like it's missing a syllable. You might also hear "Anything I can help with?" because people tend to leave off words in speech. I wouldn't recommend using this form in formal writing.- Is there anything I can help you? - This is wrong.- Is there anything I can help you with? - All good. Also, you could say (informally, in speech) Anything I can help you with? And I'll add these to your list:Can I help [you]?How can I help? What do you want me to do?**This is based on the assumption that the person looks in need of assistance or has already asked you for help. Otherwise it could be taken as "too straightforward," demanding, and exasperated.
