I Accidentally Poked My Friend In The Eye With A Ruler

Can your eye heal after being stabbed?

It depends on how badly the damage to the eye really is.The important parts here are the retina and optic nerve. If the optic nerve is hit, you’ll be blind. If the retina is hit, it will leave a blind spot but if part of it heals, that part will be able to “see” again. Your vision will be less than before. If the stabbing wasn’t deep enough but just punctured the eye then they need to fill it up with fluids (mostly oil!) and stitch the wound closed. A few weeks of rest and things should heal okay, although your vision might have changed a bitNow, if the lens was hit, they will have to replace it with an artificial lens. This has become a common type of surgery already. This is how they treat a Cataract if no other options are useful. You will need glasses afterwards as you will lose the ability to focus in the eye.Damage of the cornea or iris will be more troublesome, although a damaged iris won’t have too many bad effects. It’s just that you would not be able to control how much light goes into your eye and might have to wear sunglasses, even inside. A damaged cornea would be bad as the only one to get a new one is from a transplantation. Still, the whole area of eye eye with the cornea, lens, pupil etc. has no important nerves that you need to see, just nerves that control the focus of your eye and the amount of light that can go in. It could be replaced by anything that would let light through to project the image on your retina. Because that’s what it basically does. It projects the image of the outside world on your retina (actually the sclera as the light bounces back from it through the retina again) and the retina picks up the image. (The macula also picks up various colors.)Replacing the cornea/iris/lens with something else is a complex procedure that’s still experimental but it can be done! Man has his sight restored using one of his TEETH!So it all depends on how much damage is done to the eye. There have been people who were able to see again after being stabbed in the eye. And sometimes it heals and sometimes it gets infected and they have to remove the whole eye. But in general, they will keep as much in place as possible. But in general, while your eye can heal, it will never be like it was before…

Will you permanently damage your eyes if a tissue accidentally poked your eye while your blowing your nose?

Many years ago, in a great display of my own stupidity, I touched a cactus with with my bare hands. I thought it would be fine, since this cactus had very thin, hair-like needles; I was wrong.Upon touching the cactus, dozens of the tiny needles superficially pierced my skin. “Ah!” I thought, “The best way to get rid of the needles, is to blow them off my hand” So, in my next display of (non) brilliance: I took a deep breath, and blew the needles off my hand; Off my hand and up into my eyes. Lovely. My 10 year old self started panicking; How could cactus needles (however thin) not irreparably damage my eyes?My eyes immediately started watering, and I kept them tightly shut from the pain. I wanted to tell my parents, but I didn’t. In my mind, if I told them, that would make my stupidity, and the possible consequences, real. So I didn’t.My vision stayed blurry for a day or so, before returning to normal. And nearly a decade later, today? Well, I still have 20/20 vision, as I did that day.In short, your eyes are far more resilient than you think.Oh, and if you happen to get cactus needles in your eyes; Go to an opthamologist. Don’t be dumb like me.

What would happen if I touched my eye with my finger?

Let’s see…Corneal Abrasion: you scratch your eye with a dry finger, fingernail, glove, etc. Ouch. Yes, it will hurt, and you may have sensitivity to light and your eye will probably turn red.Or you could do a lot worse and endanger your vision by damaging your retina...See, I managed to get a hole in mine, and all I did was occasionally rub it when I was tired or had an eye lash in it.I remember when it happened actually, I was up late at night playing a video-game when my vision turned into floating black dust and specks on one side, with a bit of a spider webbing effect.Next morning I’m crying because it’s still there and freaking out to it with my mom.I got to school (don’t do this, please) and think it will just go away if I keep blinking away ‘the dust.’I began googling my symptoms and find out I possibly have a retinal-detachment, and I could go blind if I don’t go to a doctor immediately. So yeah, paranoid is good for survival, and PLEASE DON’T MESS AROUND WITH YOUR EYES.I had to have a horrible surgery, my eye was red and pussy looking for over a month and I had to practically sleep on my face. My neck was agony because I couldn’t look up, or the air bubble keeping the surgery in place could move and I’d have to have the surgery again. Then a year later I had cataract surgery. I was 21 years old. 21.Not fun.Don’t rub the eye, don’t touch the eye, if you have to rub it, rub where the bone is, thanks:Below: this is your eye after surgery and so on as it heals. It is hell to wait for it to heal.

I just stabbed myself with a staple, should I be concerned?

When I was in 2nd grade long ago I stayed after to help staple papers for the teacher because my crush was staying. I was stapling away but I wasn't watching what I was doing. One staple went through my thumb nail all the way in and bent a little at the bone. Anyway I couldn't let her know what had happened, so I yanked the staple out, it hurt like heck, for several days. No one ever knew about it. no problem. If it get infected you might see a doctor.

How much damage can an eye poke do to your eyes?

Depends on the severity of the poke.If it was a light poke, it wouldn’t dish too much damage. If it was a deliberate poke, the cornea may be a little bit scratched but not too a permanent degree. If your eyeball was impaled by someones finger, kiss your sight goodbye

Is it dangerous to draw on people's skin with sharpies? I have concerns about toxicity.

Sharpies are a permanent marker commonly found wherever office/school supplies are sold.Permanent markets, such as Sharpies, are fairly benign when applied to intact skin.To my knowledge, they typically do not deeply penetratate the outer keretinized lining of the skin (epidermis). They will stain your skin temporarily until your body grows a new layer of epidermis and the ink is shed along with old skin cells. Moreover, most commercial inks have formulas with minimal, if any, toxicity. This is especially true with anything marketed to kids.Kids (and some adults) like to put art supplies in their mouth and other places they are not intended to go. Toxic formulas would expose the manufacturer to legal liability. There are markers designed specifically for use on skin. These are used by surgeons to make patients for surgery and tattoos artists to lay out designs on skin.If you want to draw on yourself, I suggest using these types of purpose built markers. They are cheap and can be bought online.I do not recommend using regular permanent markers to draw on large portions of skin. While many manufacturers have non toxic formulas, others may not. Be safe and use all products as directed.
