2 of my Cardinal Tetras died. What is going on?
I got a tank on Sunday, December 30th, 2012 and set up the tank and put all my little blue/green gravel and fake plants and accesories in the tank. I had gone back to the store that same day to get a tank and 2 Bettas I wanted and some stuff for them. The next day (Monday, December 31st) I went back to the store which by the way was Petsmart and got the fish for the 10g tank I had just set up on Sunday 24 hours before and I had bought 2 black and white striped Danno's, 1 pink and 1 purple striped Danno and a Golden Snail and a Aquatic Frog and the 2 Cardinal Tetras. Early today around 11:30 am I noticed one of the tetras was acting funny and not as peppy. He was easily getting blown around by the bubbler and could barely swim. Then around 1:30 pm I noticed he was laying on the bottom of the tank dead. I took him back to Petsmart for an exchange and got another Cardinal Tetra in the exchange. When I came back home I noticed the other Cardinal Tetra I got with my first set of fish was acting the same way. He died about 2 hours later. What is going on here? I called the guy at Petsmart and told him my other Cardinal Tetra I had in the tank was acting the same way as the other one right before he died and he said I could come in and exchange it tomorrow. He also said when I asked about the Cardinal Tetra's that they aren't very hardy fish. Today I also got 2 Red Wag Platy's, 2 Guppy's the one's with the red tails and yellow body's and that Carinal Tetra I got for the exchange. I put conditioner in the water when I first set the tank up because I used tap water. And I just used this thing called "Prime" in the water that I got today because it removes more from the water than just Chlorine. I am thinking of exchanging the dead Cardinal Tetra for a different type of fish for a Red Wag Platy or the one with the red tail and yellow body. What is going on here? Are Cardinal Tetras just not very healthy fish generally or is it petsmart? I will say their Cardinal Tetras at Petsmart don't look as good as their other fish at Petsmart. What is the deal here? By the way the lady that works at Petsmart told me to wait 24 hours after getting the tank before putting in any fish. So that's what I did. I don't see the problem?
