My blood pressure is 150/80. Is it normal?
According to the European 2018 guidelines, SBP of 150 mmHg is grade 1 hypertension. According to the American 2018 guidelines, it is stage 2 hypertension. As for DBP of 80 mmHg, this is normal BP in the European guidelines and stage 1 according to the American. It is agreed upon that when the SBP and DBP fall in different categories, we classify the patient according to the higher one. Thus, 150/80 is grade 1 hypertension according to the European 2018 guidelines, and stage 2 according to the American ones. Mind you that this is different than the previous guidelines
