RE:

I'm eighteen. Not particularly hairy on the chest, except for this one white hair I discovered one day. It's so white I can't even find it most of the time, and it's like two inches long. Anyone care to explain this?

Disclaimer: I am not a medical doctor and this is not medical advice.I have had many students get gray hairs at young ages. It is either hereditary or caused by stress or poor eating. Some people thinking smoking or secondhand smoke can cause a young person's hair to go gray more quickly. If you are able to resolve a poor diet or stop smoking this may help prevent new gray hairs, but it is not possible to reverse the color of gray hairs that have already grown. You can dye the gray hair to match your current color. Henna clay is a  dye that comes in a lot of "natural" hair colors and actually makes your hair more healthy. Alternatively, use it as a conversation piece and embrace it. In the U.S., a lot of teenagers are going for the "granny" look and dying their hair silver or washed out greens, blues, and pinks. Maybe jump on that trend?Edited to add that of the students with grey hair at 12 or 13, many have Hawaiian, Samoan or other Pacific Islander ancestry. It's genetic and harmless.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no scientific evidence to prove that going grey can actually be caused by stress.  Hair goes grey when colour producing cells stop producing pigment.  It is usual; for white people to start going grey in their mid 30's, Asians in their late 30's and Afro-Americans in their mid forties.  A person is said to be prematurely grey if his or her hair turns grey by the age of 20.Genes play a part in how early one becomes grey, as does the vitamin B12 deficiency or problems with your pituitary or thyroid gland.  There has been some research that has found a connection with premature greying and lower bone density in later life. The good news is that if one does not take kindly to the greyness, there is always a bottle of dye that can be purchased and the benefits of this is that you can actually choose your very own colour, as opposed to being stuck with the colour you are born with.

What will happen if I stop perming my hair?

If you stopped perming your hair it will not fall out, but if you want to go back to it's natural state you basically need to cut of all your relaxed hair off. The way you can transition is by wearing braids&weaves. You need to make sure your hair is healthy and moisturised at all times! I am also going to stop perming my hair, so if you want more Information check on youtube... there are so many videos on natural hair and girls transitioning from relaxed hair to natural

I've got white hair on my head. I woke up this morning and it was there.just one! why?

Sorry to hear about your father. I hope everything goes well. It is quite normal to have one grey hair at your age my dear. Don't let it worry you. I started having grey hair in my 40s and disguised it with hair color :)))))) Now I am 90% grey. Well, I am 57 years old. Some ladies start having greys at an early age. Don't worry, you are still young and pretty.
There is a conspiracy theory that those companies who sell hair color creams, are doing something to make people's hair go white, so they can sell more :))))))))))
just joking.

Here's few tips you can try to increase the density of your hair. I too had same problem and I have lost my hair density but I tried some remedies, now it's under control.Use vitamin E capsules (evion), castor oil and coconut oil. Mix them in equal proportion and apply on your scalp, leave for few hours better leave overnight and wash the very next day with mild shampoo.Strictly avoid going out with oil in your hair, it is very important because oily hair catches dust quickly and weakens the roots of the hair.Boil ginger in a cup of water and let it boil till the quantity reduces to the half, apply on your scalp, leave for maximum one hour and rinse off. this is very effective, you can try this twice a week.Brush your hair before going to bed and avoid too much combing during the day.Fenugreek seeds are also helpful. soak overnight one tablespoon of it in a glass and make a smooth paste of it, apply and leave for upto one hour.I hope this will be beneficial for you.And if it will affect you socially, I can say it's better to prevent it before it gets worst,as your age is not that more. so you should fix this problem ASAP.Goodluck :)

Gooseberry is beneficial for the treatment of white hair. It is commonly known as Amla. This remedy is helpful in preventing and restoring premature white hair. Take amlas and cut them into few pieces. Dry the pieces in shade and boil them along with coconut oil until the color turns grey and they become soft. Massaging hair with this oil would be beneficial. Curry leaves are helpful for the patients suffering from white hair problem. The leaves can be used in combination with buttermilk. Prepare a paste by mixing butter milk and curry leaves. Take one teaspoon of curry leaves and add them in one cup of buttermilk. This remedy is helpful for treating premature greying of hair. Apply this remedy on scalp and massage it gently. Washing it after thirty minutes would be beneficial.Carrot seeds oil is useful for the treatment of white hair. It can be used in combination with sesame oil. This remedy is helpful in renewing the lost colour of hair. Take half teaspoon of carrot essential oil and add it in four teaspoons of sesame oil.

The OPs have given fine answers. I will just add that you would be wise to see an endocrinologist. Early graying can be benign, especially if it happened to close family members. But it can also signal metabolic, endocrine, & nutritional problems. Be sure to check for thyroid issues, celiac disease and non-celiac Gluten intolerance, & other common endocrine problems. So, accept the hair, dye if you want, but be sure you are seeing your body’s signals.

To explain the mystery of graying hair, you must get to the root of the problem, err, I mean the root of your hair. Under the scalp, a tube of tissue called the hair follicle surrounds the root of every hair strand. Each follicle contains a number of pigment cells that produce melanin, the polymer that gives the growing shaft of hair its color. Usually these pigment cells continuously produce melanin, but if your body stops generating it, the strand of hair will have very little pigment to paint over it’s normally transparent hue; this base-transparency will then present itself as gray, white, or silver.Researchers have shown that gender plays a role in graying. The average male starts to gray around age 30, while women typically began to notice lighter strands around age 35. In some families, many members develop white hair in their 20s. “It obviously clusters in families in one sense. Whether that is a single gene or common gene we don’t know,” writes Dr. Meyer in the magazine *Scientific American*. “Generally speaking, among Caucasians, 50% are 50% gray by age 50. There is, however, wide variation. This number differs for other ethnic groups, again demonstrating the effect of genetics.” But this biological fact of life varies greatly from person to person, which made dermatologists and geneticists conclude that age is not the the only indicator of when gray hair will appear.
