I Am A House Wife Having Problem With My Faucet Leak At My Garden

How do I determine the PSI of water faucet using the time it takes to fill a known volume?

It is easy to check the pressure in the house with a simple garden-hose thread gauge which connects to a hose bibb or a washing machine faucet.

The static pressure is the same throughtout the system. If you think you have a problem with the FLOW at a particular faucet, then a pressure reading there will not tell you anything you do not already know. Check the aearator, check the angle stop valve fully open, and finally investigate the supply tube from the stop to the faucet.

What are the other expenses of buying and living in a house besides mortgage and utilities?

Property tax and insurance are two obvious ones.If you haven’t owned a house before, there are a huge number of “unexpected” ones. Here, I’ll give you what I just went through recently:See those little, salt grain sized, woody pellets on the garage floor? Termites, my friend. That’s a few thousand dollars to tent and fumigate. Don’t forget the vacation for the week at a local hotel while this is going on.Cabinet housing the kitchen sink smells funky? Uh oh, kitchen faucet leaking. That’s a Home Depot run for a new cartridge. Easy fix, except that the first store didn’t stock the correct one. Come home two hours later to find that the hot water side doesn’t shut off. It’s Sunday and a call to the plumber’s going to cast an arm and leg. Valve probably corroded stuck so better not force it. Watch videos on YouTube for how to replace compression valves on copper lines. Shut water off to the house. Spend the day replacing the faucet, the lines, and valves. At 8hrs times my hourly rate, that’s hell of an expensive plumbing job.Oh, that stain patch on the ceiling the wife noticed a couple of weeks back. That’s the roof leaking from the rains last year. That’s more many multiple of thousands to the roofer next week. The front door needs refinishing again from the past five years of sun damage. This I can do, but it’s another weekend suck.See, the great thing about renting is that: It. Ain’t. Your. Problem.

Wife says water from the faucet smells like dirt. Could it be the new hot water heater?

when you installed the water hearter , did you not flush the system going thru the house ?
open all the faucets , let them run for at least 10 minutes to clear the sediment and crap thru the lines.
run the dishwasher one or 2 loads empty and with no detergent.

all the old sediment that had settled in the lines have been
knocked loose...
get them flushed out real good and change all your water filters
when you are done.

Low water pressure in new kitchen faucet?

First make sure that the shut off valves at the wall are turned all the way on.
If that doesn't help shut them off, take apart the faucet and look at the parts sheet and make sure that all the faucet valve parts are installed correctly. Beware of springs popping out if there is any.
Sometimes the mixers only work minimally when the parts are not in right.
The supply lines should not be a problem no matter how long they are or how many turns they make as long as they are not kinked.
Be sure the shut off valves are turned back on all the way.
Also these valves tend to leak after many uses....check for leaks with a single piece of TP. It will show you even a small leak.

Is it normal to feel an electric shock when touching a tap with running water or just water?

As a working electrician, I saw that once. A client said every time he took a shower he got a shock. I told him to quit taking showers. It took me several hours to find the problem. It wasn’t bad grounding, bad wiring, or anything else. An old stove with an old rubber cord was in the kitchen. The cord was covered in grease, cracked and rotten. It was rotten enough that a current was leaking through cord, grease and into the gas pipe, which was bonded to all the plumbing and the service ground, per code. I cut the cord, the problem went away. There was enough resistance that it couldn’t trip the breakers. I suspect only a few watts were leaking, but enough to shock someone, and possibly kill them.

Faucet turns on by itself?

Thanks everyone. Not near an airport, but my auto sprinkler system might have turned on right around that time. I have no idea what the connection could be but throught I'd throw that out there.

The only explanation I can think of is that maybe something gets stuck there, stopping the flow and making you think the water is off. But then whatever it is gets dislodged and then the water flows. But both times it happened at the same time: between 4:00-5:00 a.m., which again is when the sprinklers come on.

I'm going to remove the cartridge and check it out, maybe replace it, see what happens, one of these days when I have the time.

Can a Shower Diverter 100% stop water from the tub faucet?

I am in the process of selling our house and one of the punchlist items from the inspection report was that the tub faucet still leaked when the shower diverter was engaged. Because of this, the buyer is asking that we fix it. My wife and I quickly tested this since this was a bathroom in which we bathed our boys but NEVER have used the shower (not once since we owned the house). To our surprise, there was NO leak...the faucet driped (please view the YouTube Video)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZM8eKpWAZ4

We sent this video to the buyer but because we are in a bad position with the housing market and we don't want to lose them...he insisted and we agreed.

So I bought a brand new faucet and installed it. Unfortunately, the results were litterally the same. There was a little bit (if not more) water dripping out of the NEW faucet.

So my question is, are these things designed to stop 100% of the water or is this drip typical of ALL installations? Our other tub that has this same setup drips the same amount (but the inspector didn't call this one out for some reason).

Thank you for your help.
