I. Am. A. New Yorker. God Bless America. Never Mind The Question Mark

What are some awesome things to do in New York that are not in the standard guide books?

Every resident or visitor in New York City would be remiss if he or she did not put browsing the night party scene a handful of times at the top of his or her to-do list. Additionally, many touring musicians stop into NYC regularly and play shows at nightlife venues both well-known and obscure. Along with Las Vegas, Miami, and Los Angeles, New York City is one of the nightlife capitals of the U.S., if not the entire world. The Big Apple boasts nightlife venue variety numbering in the several hundreds, with new ones popping up every day. A few of these venues are iconic, world-renowned spaces with multimillion-dollar sound and lighting systems, not to mention beautiful, interesting, ambitious, energetic people for which NYC is known. For these top-tier cities like New York, out-of-towners visit specifically to partake in late nights out, and so the party scenes there are pretty crazy on weekends and do not let up much during the week. That being said, as you would expect, during the week the pool of options is smaller, the hotspots are less obvious and always changing, and you’re more apt to be surrounded by locals (who are less likely to be interested in meeting and mingling with tourists). In addition, elite locals in these top-tier markets prefer to go out in the nightlife scene Mon/Tue/Wed to enjoy a higher degree of privacy/exclusivity, as do the creatives, entrepreneurs, and local working-class twentysomethings and thirtysomethings who spend their weekends toiling within the massive service/tourism industries of a big city like New York.To get a gauge of how prevalent and diverse the nightlife scene in NYC is and find your cup of tea, you can use the Discotech app - http://www.discotech.me/app - to browse events by specific days of the week, holidays, or dates you’ll be in town. Then, you can even take the next step within the app, using its features to buy tickets, sign up for guest lists, or even reserve tables if you’re feeling super-fancy. The app event info refreshes daily, pulling from various New York entertainment online resources including the official websites of the nightclubs themselves, so it’s always current, accurate, and in the know.Hope this helps, and hope you have a fun time in The City That Never Sleeps!

I wonder how the Native Americans feel about the folk song, This Land is your land?

I am not so concerned about getting the land back as I am about social injustice....as for the little song, it isnt nearly as offensive as the one that goes "one little two little three little indians" or "cherokee people, cherokee pride"...the second one is mostly annoying because now that is the only tribe white people can think of when they try to claim native ancestry.. Seriously, you'd think with the 500+ tribes still in existance, and the 16,000 that used to exist, folks would get a little more creative when trying to tell a convincing lie...but they always fall along these lines "my great great grandma was a cherokee princess"...

Can anyone prove that the New York Catechism ever existed? What's its ISBN#?

Dee, if you could figure out the answer to one simple question we could move on. Your 12-point analysis is like a 12-step program: one step at a time. I believe in Jesus and His Scripture, and I believe the Catholic Church supports these as well. You are entitled to your cockamamie interpretation of Scripture, and though it irks me that you attack your fellow Christians you have the right to your hatred and ignorance, morally repugnant though it is.

But I call you on your FALSE testimony. You are Satan, the deceiver. You cite obscure texts that are long out of print (if they ever existed at all) without knowledge of whether it was a Catholic or an anti-Catholic bigot such as yourself who wrote them.

You have no credibility until you prove your case. I therefore ask for the LAST TIME - Produce a Copy of the New York Catechism.

Joseph Smith's formal education?

"we were deprived of the bennifit of an education suffice it to say I was mearly instructid in reading and writing and the ground rules of Arithmatic which constuted my whole literary acquirements." ---JS journal 1832
JS journal1832 (full quote)
"I was born in the town of Charon [Sharon] in the State of vermont North America on the twenty third day of December AD 1805 of goodly Parents who spared no pains to instructing me in the christian religion at the age of about ten years my Father Joseph Smith Siegnior moved to Palmyra Ontario County in the State of New York and being in indigent circumstances were obliged to labour hard for the support of a large Family having nine chilldren and as it required the exertions of all that were able to render any assistance for the support of the Family therefore we were deprived of the bennifit of an education suffice it to say I was mearly instructid in reading and writing and the ground rules of Arithmatic which constuted my whole literary acquirements."

and from his wife emma..........
"Joseph Smith could neither write nor dictate a coherent and well-worded letter, let alone dictate a book like the Book of Mormon. And, though I was an active participant in the scenes that transpired, and was present during the translation of the plates, and had cognizance of things as they transpired, it is marvelous to me, 'a marvel and a wonder,' as much so as to anyone else." - JS III, "Last Testimony of Sister Emma," Saints' Herald 26 (October 1, 1879): 289–90; and Joseph Smith III, "Last Testimony of Sister Emma," Saints' Advocate 2 (October 1879): 50–52.

I have not found a source that indicated "third grade" - I think it is an approximation... but I suggest emailing rrsokopf...as I'm pretty sure this is his and he generally has sources for claims.... http://www.mormonvoice.com/index.php/the...
his mother was literate and well-spoken in her records, as was JS. the "third-grade" thing likely IMHO refers to formal education....but obviously he continued to expand his knowledge as he progressed thru life and reading. ....his spelling however, stinks.
