In U.S. immigration, what is a green card?

"Green card" is the term for a U.S. Permanent Resident card. It’s a form of identification, issued by the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services that serves as proof that the person is a lawful permanent resident. Some people use it to mean the same as permanent resident status, as in, “I’ve had my green card for three years now” to mean that they’ve been a permanent resident for three years. The term "green card" is a relic of a brief period following World War II when high levels of immigration cause the United States to begin issuing proof of legal immigration status for the first time.[1] This proof of status was initially printed on a green piece of paper that looked something like this:Since counterfeiting quickly became an issue, the card has gone through several changes over the years. Today, a green card looks like this:And since we’re talking green cards, here’s John Lennon’s:John Lennon’s fight to receive his green card is actually a big moment in the history of U.S. immigration.[2] During his trial, the government was forced to reveal that they had an internal procedure for selective enforcement of immigration laws, a practice known as “prosecutorial discretion.” This is the same practice that the Obama Administration used three decades later as the basis of the DACA program.Footnotes[1] On the Fourth of July, a Look at Why the Green Card Changed Color[2] John Lennon's Deportation Fight Paved Way For Obama's Deferred Action Policy

Can I get a motorcycle license without having a motorcycle?

Look at all the nice people trying to help you, and you don’t have the decency to provide where on the planet you are asking from…oh for shame.Just kidding…but not really. In NYS and many states in the US you can take an MSF Basic RiderCourse that can take you from zero riding experience to fully endorsed in just 2 days. The only prerequisites are having a car license (MC permit not required in some states) and the ability to ride a bicycle. There are huge variances by geography though, and in any countries the bike itself. For example, if you are in a country that has a tiered licensing system and the motorcycle you are referring to is of a larger displacement, you can devote every atom of your being to learning to ride and still wait years to get that big boy leader bike. Here’s the thing though, in many places in the US you don’t even need a license to operate a motorcycle…to actually purchase a motorcycle. You only need money. That’s right, you can plop down cash or just sign a piece of paper (in addition to proof of insurance in that case) at a morally ambivalent dealership and have a +200hp deathtrap delivered to your house the same day. ‘Murica.

While not a resident of California, I will be there for two months. I was thinking of making my way back to the East Coast via scooter. Does anyone know if it is possible to get an M1 license in a state where you do not reside?

Sure. Anyone can apply and get a license if they pass the written exam and pass the driving test and they satisfy the minimum age and health requirements. If you are visiting for 2 months, your home state license will allow you to buy and ride a scooter in California. I was able to drive with my out-of-state license and insurance while I was a summer intern in CA for 3 months. The biggest challenge to obtain a license in Ca will be to schedule your driving test. In some offices, wait is between 4–8 weeks after passing the written exam.

Can I get a job in the US after doing my B.Com (hons.) in India?

Yes .  Why not.. I was a BCom graduate too.. I worked in US for 7 years.  one thing you should remember is you need a h1b visa to work in USA.  With just BCom, you may not get that visa.  You may have to have some skills that they (the citizens of US of A) does not have.if you take up a non IT job, the probability is very less of going there.  A IT job should be a better option.  Learn something like an ERP / CRM / BI / BW tool which will fully go with your degree and get a job in a company who can send you to the USA.If you want just  a job with BCom, SE Asia and Gulf should be better options for you. There are other non job based options.  you may marry a US citizen and go there or get some blood relative of yours who live in USA to sponsor you for a Green card.  or you can go with your wife (if she is working in an IT company and the company sends her there, you can take up employment if u go  on a L2  or a H4 visa. You can go there, do your masters in a good university, you may find a good job too.
