I Am A White Man From South Africa I Am A Legitimate African American So Will Affirmative Action

Does white privilege exist in South Africa?

I am a 58 year old white South African male, so my opinion is immediately invalidated. As a white male, the Constitution of the country makes it legal to discriminate against me and a number of civil rights are automatically denied me. One, for example is, that companies are actively dissuaded from employing me. If they employ me and other like me, their chance to win government tenders is reduced. They will therefore employ people with inferior qualifications and less experience, just because they are not white. On the positive side, the job must still be done, so it opens opportunities for white men to work as consultants and sub-contractors until we become so successful that the government start to put pressure on us to give controlling shares in our businesses away to non-whites.One of the other privileges of being white is that current ANC government is working on legislation that will make it possible for them to seize our assets without compensation. We have developed a few survival strategies; we work internationally or we encourage our children to leave the country and settle elsewhere.I believe however that once my generation has been destroyed, the white children, who are not even born today, will still be used as a scapegoat for the failure of my country. But my opinion does not count.

Affirmative action: Legal or illegal?

speaking as a person who stands to benefit from Affirmative action... i think it Should b BANNED. no person should get a job just because they are of a certain race, sex or they have a disability what if they are crap at it but all because they are in a wheel chair or a certain race they get the job, they should get the job cause the yr good at it,

and saying that there is racism out there is a great big pile of steaming B.S.
your not living in 1950's south Africa i don't know why some people in the US make out like they do.

Will affirmative action ever end? Will black people ever stop blaming racism?

Affirmative action will NEVER end as long as it gives minorities and advantage. It's that simple, the mind set is you can discriminate against anyone as long as I get the advantage.

Nope, again it's a chance to blame someone else. It the "man" holding me back, not my drug use, me stealing, dealing drug, robbing people, it's the "man" holding me back.

All affirmative action did and does is cheapen the accomplishments of those who truly did do themselves. Were blacks held back in the past, sure, as were Irish, the Italians and may more. But, affirmative action has all but stop the minorities of today from progressing past the 1960's. And before you bring up slavery, don't forget there were white slaves too, and if you bother to do a little research you might be surprised on how many white slaves there were.

There is a time to stop paying for the sins of the father, (or great, (great) grandfather, has long past, the time to end affirmative action has long past. But sadly as long as affirmative action give someone an advantage they will push to keep it.

African-Americans: Will You Please Comment On These Quotes?

I don't want to live in a country with people or like minded groups from other "races" who take these things literally nor should you... Honestly as a "Tragic Mulatto" I'm 50% severely offended & 50% empathetic to the *metaphorical* implications of the quotes you mentioned, ya duality is a conundrum & a common theme in my life & throughout human existence...

Individuals don't speak for whole groups, do neo-nazi's or the klan speak for you, no I didn't think so...
All "Black" militants are African American but not all African Americans are militants/"Black" supremacists & the flipside of that for Caucasians "White" supremacy is true...

Honestly I wish the world would just end because we don't seem to be evolving fast enough to keep up with our own BS that we ourselves create. None of it is ok but it is exactly how things are stereotypes, empirical generalizations & all.

*Hypothetically* If someone told me I had only 1 hour to live I'd pull a unibomber because it's the only thing that seems to bring people together even if only for a breif moment.

Maynard is right flush it all away...
