I Am About To Turn 21 And My Medi-cal Is About To Run Out Soon

How to become a medical assistant in 6 months?

Congratulations if you are pregnant! Hoping that you have a very healthy pregnancy and healthy baby :) Regarding the medical assistant field, unfortunately, there aren't supposed to be too many jobs due to the field being saturated with so many schools offering the program. (It's pretty much the same with medical billing and coding. With medical billing, a lot of companies are outsourcing to Asia/India and to become a medical coder, a person usually needs a couple years experience doing coding tasks, certification(s) in the field and preferably completion from an accredited program to possibly get a job.)

If deciding on medical assistant (or any) training, please consider the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college as opposed to those private expensive tech schools as long as it's accredited within the industry regardless of whether or not it takes longer. It may save the person a great deal of money to be utilized in other ways.

Please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools such as penn foster, stratford career, university of phoenix, ITT tech, everest, sanford brown, devry, university of phoenix, kaplan, capella, walden, strayer, US career, ashworth and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit' (and course credits may not transfer): http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search.

For US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'medical assistants', 'registered nurses' or such.

Medical Discharge from the Army - Bipolar Disorder?

Hello, I am a 21 year old Army Reservist. I've got almost 4 years in and since joining the Army, I've developed two different conditions that could medically discharge me. I've always had very, very mild asthma. But recently it's been very crippling during my 2 mile run and I just barely make it now when I used to max it when I first joined. I cannot make the run without using an inhaler first. Also, I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder recently as well after a total mental breakdown. I know that I am becoming less and less fit for service seeing how now I'm having issues separating my military life from my civilian life. Just all in all, I never thought I'd be "that" guy but it is what it is. My mom has Bipolar Disorder and my dad has asthma so I guess it's just the hand I was dealt. Anyways, I believe it's time to break the news and tell my 1SG about the issues I've been having and he'll know the best course of action to take...which in all honesty, is probably being sent to the Medical Board.

I don't really know anything about Medical Discharges though. I'm starting school soon...will I still be able to keep my GI Bill? Also, are these things that a soldier gets put on disability for? Any more information you guys could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Medical School vs Physician Assistant School?

I normally only help with people who have no idea what to do about medical school or how to get there....but your story is very similar to my family.

First things... I believe you are aware of the commitment that is required for either program. However I believe and would put my full support behind your medical degree. A PA is a wonderful degree and very useful but if you enter it because it is shorter you may regret it later. My father had all three of us and my mother (an RN) and went to med school at 40. He even did a fellowship for cardiology (8 years after med school). I still saw him and I was five when he started. Sure it was hard on the kids when dad on call for days at a time in residency but by the time I was 14 we lived in a nice home with a set schedule.

I am now in medical school and we have many many many married students both male and female. One of the third years even just had her first kid. If medical school is your dream then journey may be longer but in the end you AND your family will be proud of the experience.

She may have to work full time (money is always good.....) but loans can more than cover living expenses. I have no income as I am single/unmarried and thus all of my school and rent must come from loans. The fact is you'll pay them back.......

good luck in your endeavors
