I Am Always Worried My Toddler Will Get Sick.

My baby keeps drinking dirty water--how sick will it make her?

Ok, this was not a question about how bad a parent I am, please stop throwing stones--and thank you to all who answered the actual question, which is what I was looking for information on. C'mon, guys, do you really think I let my kid go to the beach without standing by her the entire time? Or play out in the yard by herself? Be real. And realize this is not your kid, it is the one everyone wonders how the mother keeps up with. Last question I ask here, sheesh.

Will I get sick if a toddler threw up on me?

I work with toddlers at a daycare center. Today, after lunch, one of the kids said she felt sick, so I lifted her up to take her to the bathroom, and as I did, she threw up all over me! Not gonna lie, it was in my hair, on my face, down my shirt... and sorry if TMI, but a little bit even got in my mouth! It was so gross. lol Anyway, by the time her mom came to her pick her up, she had a fever and diarrhea in her diaper, so I think she might have a stomach virus. :( Do you think I'm gonna get sick too?

Is it normal for toddlers to sweat while sleeping?

Don't think of cancer. It does nothing good, just worries you til your sick. It is normal. I have 2 children who are healthy and they both sweat while they sleep. My son used to sweat sooo bad, but he is 7 now, and he doesn't sweat too much now, just every now and then.

My baby had my shoe in her mouth?! Worried!?

I can tell you are a first time mom. If this is really only the first time your baby has tried to eat your shoe, you should consider yourself lucky. I guarantee you it will happen many, many, many more times in the future. If you stress out every time this or something similar happens you will be a nervous wreck for the next 5 years.

What should you do? Relax and quit worrying. Both of my kids have tried chewing on my shoes multiple times and never got sick from it. We don't have dogs, but many of our neighbors and friends do and the previous residents of our house (renting) did. Yes, it is possible to get salmonella from feces (if the dogs had salmonella), but it's relatively unlikely and there's not much you can do about it anyway.

Salmonella symptoms: nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, aches
The worst is usually over in 24-72 hours, but fatigue may linger for a few more days.

If your daughter does get sick (which is unlikely) you'll know it. Salmonella is rarely life-threatening and she will probably recover on her own in a few days. If she gets a fever over 105 degrees or if she gets dehydrated (more than 6 hours without a wet diaper, darker/smellier urine, lethargy, dry mouth & lips) then call her doctor or go to the hospital.

26 month old always tired?

I have a 26 month old who has been acting overly tired recently. He sleeps from about 8:30-6:30/7am and then takes about a 2 hour nap from 1-3. In the past week or so, he has seemed really tired. He even fell asleep in the car yesterday around 4pm. Several mornings now, he asks to be put back in his crib and at little gym yesterday, he laid down and said "go nitenite at gym class". the past couple of nights, he said he wanted to go nitenite before dinner (which we didn't let him do). Sometimes, I know he wants in his crib bc his binky is in there (I know...we need to get rid of it). When he plays, he does play...and runs and jumps, etc.
He is not acting sick at all, has had no fever, etc. He just recently started getting past the time change...it took up til now to get him to stop waking at 6am, before the time change, he would sleep until 7 or 7:30.
Basically, I was wondering if there is a growth spurt around now, even though his eating hasn't increased, or if I should be worried about something else? He eats an extremely well rounded diet of veggies, fruits, chicken, turkey, and fish, hummous, whole wheat and milk.

If you eat the pixy stick whole will you die???I need to know, my child may die.-worried mother?

Any time you have this problem again, in the future, with anything your child ingests, just call your local poison control number. They don't mind questions about anything. When my son put a clorox wipe in his mouth and started screaming, they were amused but did quickly assure me that it was fine and to give him a sip of water to get the soap out of his mouth. They always want you to call. They didn't mind me calling when he swallowed some sand from his sand box either. You can call them even when it's not "poison".

And I ate a lot of paper as a child and survived.

Have you ever known a child who was a constant worrier?

My son is a worrier. He’s like me, really. Positive and generally happy, but he likes to be prepared for every eventuality, however outlandish. When he was 9 or 10, he once said:‘Mum, you know how when I’m 18 I’ll be a grown-up, and have a job and move out?’‘Yep.’‘What If I lose that job? Then I won’t have money to pay my bills. I’ll be homeless. What will I do then?’ (This was said with palpable anxiety in his eyes and in his voice.)‘Honey, I’ve said that at 18, you’ll have to start looking after yourself, because teaching you how to stand on your own two feet is my priority. But you don’t ever, ever have to worry about being homeless. For as long as I’m breathing, you will always have a home with me, no matter your age. Please don’t worry about any of this.’‘REALLY? Can I really come back if I need to? Even after I’ve moved out? Not that I will need to, but if I do?’‘No question.’(Look of intense relief) ‘Oh, that’s great. Thanks mum. I feel better.’ (Big hugs all around.)And this is only the tip of the iceberg of things that worry him. Poor muffin.

My daughter is sick and unwilling to eat anything...?

If she is running a fever and throwing up she is not fine. Although if the time period has been short and the fever is low then she may just not feel well. Like adults babies can have headaches, earaches, upset stomach for no reason. This usually will pass in 24 hours, but if 2 days has gone by like this I would demand further testing from the doctor.
Try to get her to drink Gatorade that is clear or light color, water, or some other clear re-hydrating liquid and let her gnaw on saltine crackers when ever she feels like it (maybe even dipped in chicken noodle soup). Is she pulling at any part of her body? Ear, hair, face even? Signs such as these will usually tell you what is bothering them. You may want to give her a tad bit of Motrin, not even a dose, just like a quarter of a dropper full. This usually helps them rest until they feel better again.
Keep steady watch on her until she is feeling better and the fever has subsided, you shouldn't assume that cause she is resting she can not get worse. Doctors are not always right, but they can not always know.
Start her off light when she wants to try to eat again, soup with mostly broth is usually best. Just do not let her get dehydrated, surely the doctor told you something similar. I had a little girl too, and helped with my sister's for the first few months and the experience is familiar.
I hope she feels better soon! Follow up OK!

Can I get sick from drinking out of a sick person’s bottle?

NO. while germs are certainly there…like everywhere. The likelihood of actually being infectedFrom a sip off a bottle is just outside the realm of common sense. The amount of infectious biomatter inrelationship to the bodies defenses (saliva) makes it a "no go" Washing your hands is a far betterPreventative measure. Worrying ..will neither ward of germs or encourage a high functioning immuneResponse. ( be sure to hug your friend… sick people need love as much as medicine)
