Best way of reminding someone to write me a letter of recommendation?

Does it seem weird to professors when students email them after 8PM at night?
One time a student texted me around 3 am. She said, “Tom, I just woke up in my car in the parking lot at Target. I’m still too drunk to drive and I’m scared.” I drove down to where she was and then drove her home. I tell my students that if they’re ever too drunk to drive and they have absolutely no one else to contact then they can contact me. So far she’s the only one.These are pics of her. We ended up becoming good friends.
I got a weird check in the mail?
Today I got an envelope in the mail addressed to me. On the envelope was a printed shipping label for express mail on the envelope it says it is from Jason Taylor 6926 spada rd snohomish wa 98290 There was a check of $2,200.00 but on the check on the left it says Sterling Points Homeowner's Assoiciation, Inc somewhere in SC then on the right of the check it says North State Bank 6200 Falls of Neuse Road Raleigh NC 27609. there was also delivery tracking number on the shipping label located on the envelope. My friend tracked the number and it said it was shipped from Charlotte NC. is this a real check or a scam? I wouldn't think a scammer would actually put a return address. I already plan on going to my bank for more info but I am not going to cash it or anything until I know is it's real or not. Any advise?
