I Am Currently On Anti-depressants But Want To Start Taking 5htp

I'm scared of taking antidepressants ?

I was scared before I started taking my meds, too, so I know exactly how you feel. But I eventually did and it has greatly improved my life. When I had trouble with side effects (and they really weren't very bad at all) I contacted my prescribing doctor and we changed the dosage or the med itself.

Taking the meds is worth a try. It could really change your life for the better.

5-HTP(as anti-depressant) with Shrooms?

5HTP and shrooms both effect your serotonin uptake, so it's possible that it could mess with the high a little, much as it messes with that happy feeling you get from MDMA.
I've never tried this specific combination, but I'm on Amitriptyline and it did seem to make my shroom trip a little less intense. The visuals were there somewhat but I didn't have that euphoric feeling... I would research this more just by googling it, you'll probably get way more results. And less people being like "OMG DRUGS R BAD WTF".

All I can say is that you should start out with a smaller amount, like 2-3 grams, and see how you feel. If you feel fine then have some more, wait some more, and so on and so forth. There's no such thing as being too careful when you're mixing drugs. :)

What is the best remedy to fight off depression after consuming MDMA and Methamphetamine?

First and foremost,  you are most likely NOT getting MDMA and MDMA alone. After 15 years of doing forensic drug analysis, I can say with confidence that most tablets either contain multiple ingredients, usually meth with MDMA or just meth, sometimes meth and ketamine, sometimes up to 5 or 6 active,  scheduled compounds. Some do have just MDMA, but there is no way to tell- the same pill press and coloring used for MDMA today will be used for a cut batch with MDMA and meth tomorrow and a batch of just meth the next. So you need to stop looking at it as a given that you took MDMA. You may have, but if you've used more than once and you aren't an organic chemist making your own (and doing QC- a lot of times we see the wrong precursor used, which gives the wrong product, or a reaction isn't completed and the precursor is still present in the tablet) you should assume you have been exposed to one of the most addictive substances in the world, methamphetamine. And may be in some level of withdrawal. See your doctor. They cannot turn you in unless you are a threat to yourself or others, but they can help you recover.MDMA messes with your serotonin. If you are on antidepressants, the combination can trigger something called serotonin syndrome,  essentially an overdose of serotonin, which can kill you.  MDMA itself increases body temperature and reduces sweating and other body cooling methods, so every year kids die from cooking in their own skin. They end up in the ER with temperatures of 109, 110, and higher. This usually correlates to an increase in MDA (a sibling compound, much like amphetamine compares to methamphetamine) which is slower to kick in. Poor kid thinks they got a bum pill and takes more, and more, and when it starts to kick in about 60-90 minutes later they have taken way too much.Sorry about the soapbox. My point is, look at these other compounds and their long term consequences when deciding how to treat your depression and be cautious if you start taking SSRI or SNRI antidepressants but still take ecstasy.

Is it safe to take small doses of 5-HTP with antidepressants?

80mg a day is the maximum dose of Prozac (it certainly used to be, if it isn't any more then it's still a very high dose), and I would be very wary of combining anything affecting serotonin with that or any dose of antidepressants as you do not want to risk serotonin syndrome - it is a serious condition which is not necessarily easy to diagnose as it resembles many other conditions, and can be fatal.

Absolutely do not start altering your medication without discussing it with your doctor. If you feel you need something in addition to 80mg of Prozac it might be worth discussing a different medication as Prozac may not be the best antidepressant for you. Don't mess around with your meds without proper supervision.

Antidepressants (zoloft)?

Trust your instincts and call your doctor. You might consider trying a natural remedy like Ginko bilboa, St. John's Wart, SAM-e or 5-HTP- info links here:

Also, regular exercise, sufficient sleep and taking a good multi-vitamin (containing iron if you are anemic) plus a good B-complex supplement and omega 3-6-9 supplement every morning just before breakfast can make a huge difference (certainly does for me). I also can't stress enough the importance of cognitive therapy in overcoming depression.

I have started taking 5 HTP, it seems to make me feel a bit spaced out and not quite with it. Is this normal?

I think there may be a bit of a misunderstanding. First of all, 5-HTP isn't an antidepressant, but it can help with the mood. The reason I make that distinction is that typical antidepressant SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) make it harder for your body to absorb the excess Serotonin (which is why they make some people feel like "zombies" or feel really off)... 5-HTP helps in your body's production of Serotonin so you can make more of it. They both have an impact on Serotonin, but they work in entirely different ways.

With that distinction being made, 5-HTP is very commonly used for relaxation and/or sleep... it sounds like you were effectively just a little tired. You may want to try a smaller dose in the morning and that dose you took more in the evening, but if any amount of 5-HTP in the morning makes you feel that way, you may need to try another supplement for mood support instead during that time and keep the 5-HTP for the night time. I would also agree that you shouldn't drive or operate heavy machinery while experimenting with 5-HTP as well for the same reason. ;-) Good luck and I hope I helped!

Do you think 5-HTP pills work for anxiety and depression?

I've been taking it for about a month now, and I can tell a big difference. It is a heck of a lot less expensive than med's. I was on Paxil for 10 years, and it did more harm than good. Anxiety would get worse, they'd up my dosage, it made me "numb" to feeling anything, I didn't feel happy, sad, angry, I really felt like a zombie.
And of course the doctor will think you're crazy, they only get the propaganda from the pharmaceutical sales reps about how wonderful these medications are.
I've been off the Paxil for 4 years now, and I am just now getting to where I "feel" again.

Go to "cchr.org", you can do a virtual museum tour and watch videos explaining the history behind these mood altering pharmaceuticals, the history of psychiatry. It takes a while but is VERY enlightening. They will also send you a free DVD. It will make you never want to take those drugs again.
