I Am Having Issues With My First Job

How was your first day at first job you got?

I have few reasons to be anonymous here. I had thought of writing with my name, but some facts would surely needed to be disclosed about corporate hospitals. So I better remain anonymous.Well, my first day at work I had real “unbelievable” experiences.I had passed my medical college (mbbs) and applied for job to get some money while I was preparing for Post Grad Exams. And a few days later I got a call from Care Hospital for joining.I joined and when I asked what’s my designation. They told “you’ll be told later after a month”. I thought that’s a probation period. Well ok.When I went to the emergency, I was told to visit floors take Case sheets and all general work. But wait! I’m under whom? Who’s my boss type? - no one seemed interested. Every consultant was saying go to him or her or someone else except the person I was asking.Ok I held on to one consultant, and started on rounds with him. He didn’t deny me. I thought I had selected my boss. Then, my colleagues, who were there observing me all this time. Came to me during lunch and asked me “How much is your salary? How much are they paying?” I was like, “don’t they pay you the same?” They never replied.I further asked them about their college and no one told. They were ignoring. All they wanted was to know my salary. Finally at the end of day, one old looking consultant called me up and asked the experience. And when I told him all this. He told “you are only among few mbbs doctors joining here in emergency and floor management. Rest all are ayurvedic doctors who are told to behave as allopathic. They train them for few months and also their demand for pay is less than mbbs.”Well, that’s kind of really bad experience. Though I survived for months, but what about ditching the trust of people? They are training non-mbbs to prescribe allopathic treatment in emergencies!! There should be some regulation and strictness with corporate hospitals.

Is it normal for it to be hard to find a first job?

It certainly can be. The issue is that you have no experience and no one who knows you helping to get a job.Having a friend or family member recommend you to an employer can be a big help. For a lot of employers they would think something like “Well, if [person x] knows them and says they are a good potential, I suppose I can give them a chance.”If you don’t have that, then try this approach. If it is a retail outlet you are trying to get a job at, dress professionally, go in and ask to speak to the manager. When you do get the manager, introduce yourself and say “I am looking for a job and I wanted to stop by and introduce myself and see if you were hiring. I don’t have a lot of experience so I am really looking for someone to take a chance on me.”The manager will most likely ask you to fill out an application, either in the store or online. In either case, you should follow up with them once you have done so and ask if they had any questions for you.Always be polite and remember that they have work to do as well so they might not get back to you as quickly as possible. If they tell you the are considering you, check back from time to time, every other day or so, and politely ask if they’ve made a decision.Remember, you are essentially selling yourself so make sure you put your best foot forward.I once had an employer who said to me:”of the 5 people I interviewed, you had the least experience, the least education, the least training and you were the worst dressed. But, I’m hiring you anyway because you were the one who kept coming back and showed me you really wanted the job.”good luck.

I'm getting my first job and I'm nervous!?

You will be just fine :)
Your supervisor and fellow employees will help you along the way. Everyone is nervous for their first job, but you will get used to it. Just try to focus and remember that it is important to do well at your job so that you have an employer that can give you a letter of reference/recommendation in the future. And hopefully if you do well at your job you could also be up for a promotion! So work for that. And try to think about how you would want the employees to treat you while you are shopping as a customer. Try to think of them as like a friend and that will make your job easier because you'll naturally care more and want to go above-and-beyond to help them.

However, I'm 90% sure you need to be 18 to work at Calvin Klein.

Typically high-end stores do not higher people under the age of 18 and they usually only higher people with sales experience. You will have a hard time at 16 because that is about the earliest anyone will hire you and there are restrictions on when you can work as a minor.

Walk around the mall and try out a few teen clothing stores to see if they will hire you. I'm positive that American Eagle Outfitters hires 16 year olds (I work there) and Abercrombie kids hires 16 year olds (I worked at Hollister - you need to be 17 to work at Hollister and 18 to work at Abercrombie and Fitch). Forever 21 and Sephora require you to be 18 last I checked. Most department stores require you to be 18. It is only the teen and children stores that typically hire at 16. Most restaurants, fast food chains, ice cream parlors, etc. hire 16 year olds too (not Starbucks, you need to be 18).

Just call around and walk around the mall and you'll find some places hopefully. Now is a good time to look for a part-time job like that because clothing stores need people for back-to-school season which in retail starts in July. (I know that sounds too early, but it's true!)

Best Wishes,
Tiffany

I am 16 and having my first job interview I am extremely nervous what should I wear bring and say?

The old rule is that you come to the interview dressed as you would be for the job. So nothing too fancy, but clean, well-groomed.

You don't need a resume, you don't have anything to put on it anyway. The application will ask what grade you're in, and that's all they really have to know. For a job like this you are hired not for what you know but for what you can learn. And even if you've had a lot of jobs (as I have), no matter how much you know, you're still hired for what you can learn, because every job is different. So don't beat yourself up for being a beginner. That's just what they're looking for!

What they really want are two things. One is a person who is not afraid of hard work, someone with enthusiasm and energy who can stay excited and motivated for a full shift. If you get the job you'll be surprised just how hard it is! The other thing is a person who's good with people, who can serve the public with a big smile. That also is harder than you might think.

So at the interview you smile a lot. You answer questions directly. You look in the interviewer's eyes when he talks to you or you talk to him, like you have nothing to hide.

For gosh sake, don't pretend to know all about coffee! In fact if you do know anything, dummy up. They want to train you. 8^)

Good luck!

EDIT: One more thing.

Every employment interview you have in your whole life helps you, it makes you better at your next interview. I used to work temporary, three weeks here, two months there, and I had a LOT of interviews. And they got to be really familiar, I got to know how to answer the questions, and I had more and more confidence. So at the VERY WORST, I mean if you can't answer any of the questions and you throw up on the rug and they call security to throw you out, this interview, since it's your first, will enormously improve your -next- interview! There is no substitute for experience!

So go get 'em!

First Job after college question?

Ok so I am wondering what to do right after graduating from college. I am going to have my Bachelors finished and I plan on submitting my resume online to sites like monster, careerbuilder, and hotjobs. But the question I have is should I be picky for my first job? Or do I take one of the first offered? Remember that I will have to pay off student loans starting 6 months after, plus the insurance factor(wont be on parents policy anymore). Thoughts....

I'm filling out my first job application, and I have some questions...?

In the order you asked :position = job name or title (cook, clerk, etc)
salary desired = what you think you should be paid - prob min. wage
location = what area of company will you work in - kitchen, salesfloor
date avail. = when you want to start working
subjects = anything you have studied relating to this job
skills = anything besides experience in this job field, like if applying for sales clerk, you volunteered at bake /garage sales
special skills = like computer knowledge, typing
company/reference = someone you know that you can use as a reference (will say that you are good at what you do) & where they work & if they are a friend or school official type of thing
years acq = how many years have you known the person you put down as a reference
work exper/employ hist = babysitting & volunteering would go under this category IF that is the kind of work you are applying for

remember that the company you are applying for has seen a lot of young people applying for their first job, like you are. just be honest with them and keep good thoughts :}

Is it normal to be scared of getting my first job?

I'm 19 and I'm scared of getting my first job, I want to get a part time job to earn my own money. I already know lots of places where I could work, but I don't know I'm still having this feeling of fear, because I consider myself shy, so It could be a problem, isn't it?

Another question: If I want a Part Time that means I'm gonna work 20 hrs???? I mean 4 hours per day (monday through friday)?? I exactly don't understand this about part time, are they going to ask me how many hour could i work? or something????
