I Am In Such Wonder My Singing Dream

Should I give up on my singing dream?

My mum ALWAYS tells me that singing jobs are useless and only people who aren t educated and who are stupid get singing careers, I m 16 now. I ve wanted to be a singer since I was young. But my mum says I should be a teacher ( she doesn t want me to have any job that gets me famous )

I had a dream where a song was playing in the background, but I have never listened to that song or anything like it before. How is this possible?

Well, consider the mind as being made up of two parts -The Conscious MindThe Sub-conscious MindNow, what we are reading, watching etc. (as we call we are focusing on a particular activity, the details are registered in the Conscious Mind. The details other than those being focused on never goes unnoticed. They get registered in the sub-conscious mind. Now, generally, the sub conscious mind is in the passive state and the conscious mind is in the active state. Now when the sub-conscious mind connects to the conscious mind - generally during sleep (as in dreams), inebriation, hypnotism etc. It is during these periods that the contents of sub conscious mind get floated to the conscious minds and we are able to visualize them in apparition, dreams etc.It is also one of the prime reasons why many of the amazing discoveries, creative contents were “thought out” in sleep or under intoxication. (which by no way means intoxication would definitely lead to amazing discoveries though!!)Thus, as others have pointed out, the song must have been registered in your sub-conscious at some point of time. You visualized it in your dreams. To sum it up, it’s all in the Sub-conscious mind!!

Should I follow my dream of becoming a singer?

You can follow your dream of becoming a singer, however, you should consider singing as a hobby until such time you are able to financially support yourself as a singer.

Here are some tips about how to become a singer of note:

Be determined and persistent. There's a lot of competition out there - thousands of people want the fame and fortune of a successful singing career. Most successful singers spend years working on their voices and playing low-paying gigs before they make it big. Don't lose sight of your goal, and resolve to be patient.

Start with one good song that you sing great. Once you got that work on your next best song. Before you know it, you'll have a whole night covered, a gig of good stuff.

If you don't write your own songs, pick good covers. A lot of singers don't write their own songs, and that's OK. Particularly when you're first starting out, you want people to pay more attention to the quality of your voice than the quality of your songwriting. Build up a "set list" of 10 to 15 covers you know you can really knock out of the park, and practice getting better at them.

Sing in public whenever possible. Book as many gigs as you can to get your voice out there - you never know who will be listening in the audience. Sing at private parties, county fairs, store openings, rodeos, sporting events, talent shows, karaoke nights, and anywhere else that will have you, paid or not. Even if you don't get spotted by a talent agent right away, you're practicing your stage presence and getting used to being in front of a crowd.

Start a YouTube channel. Some people have actually managed to become famous through posting videos of themselves singing on YouTube.

Become a publicity hound. Eat, breathe, and sleep attention. Look for photo ops. Speak up. Swipe up any chance to shake up the spotlight. Make yourself known.

Network. Be in the places where successful musicians/producers meet (clubs, dance halls) and act like you're part of the industry, even if they don't know who you are. Go to a city known for music (such as Nashville, Memphis, New York City, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Austin or Las Vegas) and socialize with the local musicians.

I am an engineer and I like singing. What I should do?

One of the worst feeling in life is REGRET.When you will be on your deathbed you will remember the things which you wished to do but didn't do because of some reasons. As you said you are not financial strong then leaving your Job will be a bad idea. You can join some classes of signing and keep practicing in your spare time. Participate in activities of office to get an idea if your signing is really up to the mark. Once you are confident enough you can shoot some videos and upload it on YouTube. One of the famous personality who followed this is Shraddha Sharma who got popular by posting videos of her singing on YouTube. You can join some musical group or people of group who practice singing.Once you make contacts and you have money then you can try to achieve your dream with full dedication. All the best.

Can you improve a bad singing voice?

It depends on what makes the singing "bad". There's a difference between being tone deaf and not knowing how to sing properly. You would be surprised how many people think they can't sing, when really they just haven't learned how to sing properly. There is more to singing than breathing, although that is one of, if not the most important thing. There is correct style, how you shape your vowels, how you sing continents, stuff like that.
I have seen people improve drastically over my years of singing. But, really, it's a case by case basis. Most of the time it's a case of not knowing how.

A Red Robin in my dream.?

The house in most cases represents yourself, the window is like a "window" into your soul. The red robin like the one above me said is new beginnings, but it could always have a specific meaning to you (example if your mother always liked robins). Your dream could mean that you feel like your "on the outside looking in" when it comes to yourself, and that your starting to change something in your life. Maybe your too aloof?

How can I learn to sing without an inherent talent?

As a vocal student who started several years ago with initially zero knowledge on singing unlike some of my peers who just got to be able to sing automatically, I can tell you one thing for sure: there is no such a thing as someone without inherent talent in singing since I improved immensely. To me, anyone who enjoys music can learn singing if he or she wants to dedicate himself or herself to it. Real tone deafness, which makes a person amusical, occurs only if you cannot differentiate one tune to another, and that is a very, very rare case altogether (studies show that only an average of 4% of the overall population is really tone deaf). There are several things you can do, in my opinion, if you want to at least be able to sing in tune with a pleasant tone: Get a vocal coach. A vocal coach can really do wonders to both your inner hearing and your tone production. Personally, I would recommend getting one who not only trains your tone but also focuses a lot on your musicianship, because the latter will not only teach how to sing perfectly in tune but also how to interpret different styles of music altogether. Learn an instrument. Since you have never played an instrument before, I recommend you to learn one because it will really help to get your inner ear working. A piano, a well-tuned guitar or any melodic instrument will do. Join a community choir. I joined one, and it really did wonders to my singing as I get to learn to sing with other people and learn from them for several months. Find and sign up for a non-auditioned community choir around your area. Most importantly, practice. There is no point of investing your time of the other things if you never practice in the first place. Get any voice recorder (even a mobile phone voice recorder will do), and just sing any song or lick you feel like singing on that day. Recording is very helpful because the way you perceive your voice is most likely going to sound different recorded, and this will help you to fix your flaws accordingly. If it hurts, stop singing for a while because you do not want to damage your vocal cords. I wish you all the best for your singing and continue to channel your creative self! :)P.S. Thanks for the A2A.

How can I be a singer if my voice is bad but I have passion?

We need to cover a couple points here to clear things up.  One, you can be a singer no matter how bad your voice is.  Two, voice lessons will help you no matter how bad your voice is.  Three, you can always be in a rock band, many rock vocalists can't really sing.  So if somehow you want to be a pop singer, they do have auto tune and that can make almost anyone sound good, or at least in tune.  Personally I think Kanye can't sing at all and even auto tune doesn't help much, but look at him.Let's take the band Beat Happening.  They are a small indie band that has been around since 1985.  They putout 5 albums from 1985-1992.  Calvin Johnson, their male vocalist, started a small label called K Records which put out all their albums.  They toured around, got radio play, and this guy Calvin released dozens of other bands records as well.  He has released solo albums as well.  Calvin would NOT be classified as a good singer by most people's standards. But people love him.  I love him too, love Beat Happening, and love many of the artists on his label.  Here is a sample of some of their work:Now, for me, it's not about if you're in tune, or have the prettiest voice.  There are so many reasons I like, and don't like some musicians or singers.  But passion is important, as is what you are singing about.  Keep this in mind while listening to this album.  He sang in this band for 7 years.  He ran a record company that sold thousands of albums.  He toured all over and still is a singer to this day and this is how he makes his living.  There are countless other singers out there better and worse than him, some famous, some not.  But one word of warning.  Do NOT do this to get famous.  If you want to sing, you sing, all you want.  If you get good enough to get paid or make a living at it, great.  But do not think you will get famous from this, it is exceedingly unlikely.  Just enjoy it for what it is.

What's the easiest song to sing from Les Miserables for an alto?

i think that "i dreamed a dream" would be the best to sing for an audition.
"on my own" is your classic alto song, and while the notes are easy to learn, there's a lot of depth to that song. there's emotion and belting and overall, it proves to be a pretty tricky song. while i dreamed a dream has emotion too, its the same one through the whole song-- that sort of longing for a better world. its also perfect for the alto range, and it's beautiful. on my own will also be the most commonly sung song by altos, so by choosing i dreamed a dream youd be different than most, and more likely to stand out!:D
i really hope that this helped, and break a leg on your audition! :)
