Dried seaweed..what are good uses for it?

I use this more than I do lettuce rolls. I go to the Asian Grocer and get nori sheets and these are very light as a snack.
I place 4 oz. brown rice in a pan and cover with 1 cup water. Boil, cover, simmer, 5 minutes.
remove from heat and let it stand for 15 min. Drain rice in colander. Then transfer to bowl, add 1 tsp brown rice vinegar, and mix well.
Place 1 avocado, peeled and seed removed, 8 oz chickpeas, and 1"wasabi paste in blender and process for 30 seconds, then add juice of half a lemon and process for a few seconds.
Put nori sheet on working board and spread avocado mixture over sheet and cover with rice layer, place a line of celery that has been peeled and cut into fine strips and carrots peeled and cut into fine strips and put down center of rice. Carefully roll up sushi, rolling backward and forward a few times to tighten it.Place on plate in fridg and chill 5 minutes and slice into 1" piecesServe with wasabi mustard, pickled ginger and Braggs aminos to taste.Seaweed is packed full of minerals so get into seaweed to soak up more minerals.

What are the bad sides of eating too much seaweed?

Seaweed is often considered a very healthy food. It is rich in vitamin B12, calcium, iodine, iron, folic acid, and other vitamins and minerals. However, eating seaweed is also easy to intake some unhealthy heavy metal ingredients and other disadvantages.Poor appearanceThe color and texture of seaweed are not good. Edible algae are usually green, brown, and red. These colors, combined with a sticky texture, can easily cause loss of appetite.IodineAlgae contain large amounts of iodine, an essential element of the human thyroid anabolic hormone. Because it is a good source of iodine, eating seaweed helps boost thyroid function. Iodine excess, however, is harmful and is known to be associated with papillary thyroid carcinoma. Adults are advised to consume 150 micrograms of iodine per day.Heavy metalSome algae may contain heavy metals. For example, called hijiki has confirmed that the algae contain large amounts of inorganic arsenic, arsenic is associated with cancer, so eat less this seaweed.

What are foods you should not eat if you have hypothyroidism??

Here is part of a long article on the subject, found on the listed website. I hope it helps :]

The first set of foods to avoid includes over-processed and refined foods. This refers to white breads, white flour, and basic junk foods. These don’t offer much nutritional value and can contribute to problems with insulin resistance and hormonal difficulties. They are also calorie-rich and not generally helpful in decreasing weight. We will get into greater detail with these items in the next section when we talk about low-carb vs. low-fat diets.

Next, people with hypothyroidism are often told to avoid goitrogenic foods. Goitrogenic refers to the fact that these foods can increase your likelihood of developing a goiter by decreasing thyroid hormone production. Remember, a goiter is a lump in your neck, caused by an inflammation of the thyroid. It’s not pretty.

The funny thing about these foods is that the majority of them are very healthy, in general. The incidence of their consumption causing a goiter is gone if you take specific measures, most notably – cooking them.

Regardless, the following foods are considered goitrogenic: cabbage, broccoli, turnips, rutabaga, mustard greens, kale, spinach, Brussels sprouts, peaches, pears, strawberries, and radishes cauliflower, millet, and African cassava.

These foods should not be eaten in large quantities and generally not raw especially if you are on thyroid replacement hormones and still have a thyroid because they can negatively interact with your medication, nullifying its effects. Cooking seems to break down the enzymes enough to make the anti-thyroid effect a non-factor.

Other foods that fall on this list are potatoes and corn. These starchy vegetables may also have a goitrogenic effect, although we, in the Western world, are less likely to consume either of these raw anyway. Therefore, they may not be as much of a factor for us.

Is it safe to feed your horse paprika?

It is 100% safe to feed your horse paprika. It is one of the main ingredients in alot of coat enhancers such as black as knight and blackenall. It is known for encouranging darkening of the coat on all colors and will tend to bring out deep gold colors in lighter horses. I personally have used paprika by itself with my horses with mixed results - I found that I had better results by combining certain ingredients such as Black Oil Sunflower Seeds and Seaweed.

As far as amounts - you should feed on average of 3 tablespoons per day per 1200 pounds or so. For the Black oil sunflower seeds - by the ones in the shell(avoid PEnningtons brand - has a toxic substance called BIRD KOTE and will make your horse sick) feed 1-3 cups per day in the feed.

If you are interested in a good coat supplement I own a supplement company and can recommend the product I developed which has been getting wonderful reviews!! Feel free to email me at sarasupplements@yahoo.com for info on that!

When purchasing paprika get the freshest you can(not in the little jars) and look for sweet hungarian paprika. It is more palitable and your horse is more likely to eat it!

Take care,

Technically, isnt it impossible to be vegan?

Here in the US, it's absolutely impossible to be a true vegan. Animal slaughter byproducts are in dozens of things we all use every day: glues in book bindings, in car tires, in roads and streets, they're used in electrical transmission, the latex gloves your dentist uses....and on and on.

IMO, it's the height of hypocrisy for vegans to go on and on about wearing leather while they set comfortably in a wooden chair, held together by animal based glues, in front of their computer, run by electricity, in a comfortable room, with animal slaughter byproducts in the walls, paint and maybe the carpet! What's the difference? Wear leather or not, everyone benefits from animal slaughter.

Then there are the tens of thousands of small animals that die in the fields every year during the planting and harvesting of grains and veggies that vegans eat. Why is it ok to chop up a field mice in a harvester, but wrong to kill a cow, in the most humane manner possible?
