I Am Purchasing Or Adopting A Cat And Was Wondering If Anyone Could Recommend A Good Family Cat.

Soon adopting a 9 month old cat/kitten. Help please. 10 points!?

Ok, yesterday I went to the cat shelter, to see this cat I am interested in adopting. He is 9 months old, and his old owner gave him to this lady because he was too boisterous for her. Then the second owner gave him to the shelter because he hates other cats, and was attacking her two cats. He doesn't like other cats, or young children. The people from the shelter are comming sometime this week to check out the house, and the next day/same day we can go pick him up.

1. What do I do when guests with children come? I mean they dont come that often, but like twice a month kind of thing. Should I put him in the guest bedroom so he feels safe or what?

2. What should I buy for him? I already have bowls, a bed, a cat carrier/basket, a large cat tree with 5 levels, some toys. What else should I buy? I know I need food, litter, litter tray. Should I buy the stuff of the day I get him, on the way back from the shelter? Or the day of the home visit if they approve I can buy it. Because I dont know if they will approve, and if they dont and i buy the stuff then it will go to waste

3. On the day of collection, when we get home what do i do? Keep him in 1 room, show him the litter box? or just let him do what he wants?

4. Should I be feeding a 9 month old cat kitten food/cat food? He is still small, smaller than a full grown cat.

5. When I start letting him out, after a month, I afraid he will get into fights with the cats down the street. My old female cat (R.I.P.) would scare them off all the time, but since this guy is still small, should I be worried? Will he be able to defend himself? I know I cant tell the people down the street to keep their cat inside.

thanks for your help

I'm thinking of adopting a kitten. Any cat advice?

Yes, get a kitten! When you get them young, it's easier to train them.

When you first get your kitten, make the bathroom, "it's," room. place the food/water dishes, litterbox, bedding and scratching post. It'll learn to file it's nails on the scratching post with such limited options.

You can let the kitten out when you are home, but when you go to work, leave it in the bathroom with it's toys, plenty of food and water, and fresh litter. Take the kitten out when you get home.

for kitty litter, use clay litter; the crystal kinds are not good for a young kitten(they can clog the anus) and just use a multiple cat litter; I use "Tidy Cats." Also, get a litter box with cover and has a slot for a filter; it will absorb the bad smells inside the box. Be sure to scoop it once a day and change it every three days or every other day; you'll know when to change it because your kitty will let you know(mine wipes her paws on the inside of the box, the other won't go in; hence I know it's dirty)

Also, it depends on the cats for shedding. My shorthaired cat sheds a bit, but not my meduim haired one; if she does shed, it's very little. Just brush him once day, it should suffice.

My expenses are small, cuz it's really just food and kitty litter, with occasionally toys and treats. Vet bills will also vary, depending on who you take your kitten to; be sure to go to a good vet.

If you have any questions, u can email me. Hope this helps!

I am interested in purchasing a quality Bengal cat. Do you know of any reputable breeders?

I know that I can just do an internet search... I have. I want quality. Show cat quality. Every one says they're the best. However, word of mouth and client experience have always been the best methods to me. Recommend any breeders? I don't care about location. Thank you,

Any Maine Coon cat breeders in Houston?

Thank you all for your answers, they were helpful.
@Dreamweaver Thanks a lot, I just read they are able to ship them out too, which is a good thing since I am in Houston. I looked up the site but did not see any contract info or they pricing, maybe you can provide with it??
