I Am Sick And Need Advice In College

I hate college. A lot. Any advice?

I HATE the college I'm at. I go to Smith College, a highly prestigious school in Massachusetts. I've only been here for two weeks, but I have never been so miserable in my life. I miss everything about home, and like nothing about where I am. I'm tired of being around people I don't care about, doing everything alone, not being with my family or boyfriend or friends, not having any money, doing endless amounts of homework for classes, crying nightly, and just generally not having a good time. I have heard from many, many people that it gets better after the first month or semester or whatever, but I just don't foresee that happening for me. I feel like it's not just Smith that I don't enjoy, but college in general. I'm so sick of being here, and I'm four hours away from home, and I'm incredibly depressed. Any advice? :|

Do I Call in Sick for College?

Well, if you weren't there the teacher probably already knows, unless it was a huge lecture course (and in those cases the teachers usually don't bother with taking attendance anyway). You only need to call in if you're trying to get excused for your absence (e.g. you were sick), and in that case you can call or email your teachers directly.

Can someone give advice on how to overcome college burnout.?

I am a senior in college with 1 semester to go. I have had great success til now and my GPA is / was 3.6. But I have either gotten lazy, or burnout, b/c I now have great difficulty motivating myself to go to class and study. I know that I am sick of school, but I care about my performance and so want to graduate, yet I cant motivate myself to attend class and study like I use to. Instead I wait til the last minute. Help!

Homesickness in college and just want to go home.?

I live at college, but am severely homesick I am nausea's all the time and can't sleep. I could commute from home if I wanted to. If i go back home and live at home until I graduate college do you think I will be ready to leave home then or will I still feel this way when I leave?

I’m failing all my college courses. I’ve been sick, went through a divorce, etc. If anyone has any words of encouragement or advice that would be appreciated. Just feeling really depressed about this situation. Has anyone else failed college?

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Please follow Patricia Pitsel’s advice, posted in the answers here, and see your Student Services for assistance.I did have a school of journalism classmate who flunked out of college—he was the editor in chief of the student newspaper (independently owned by the students, not the college) and apparently was so wrapped up in it, he didn’t realized what he was doing. (After all, an earlier editor in chief was also in law school and made it look easy.)After he was gone for a while, he returned, albeit in a different field of study.Man plans; God/fate/chaos laughs. Here’s a bit of bittersweet that that might help with perspective, “The Restaurant of Life”:

What is some advice for a student joining a professional college after standard XII for handling studies, friends, hostel life, and activities? What are some specific tips for handling home sickness?

Thanks for A2A...From my point of view and personal experiences  :-1) Your college does not matter, Knowledge does. No matter what college you are admitted to you can always have a better way out.2) Your branch does not matter, Interest does.If you are lucky enough to know the field for which you are truly passionate about then stop thinking about anything else, Achieve it.Follow linkedin to connect with people of similar interest and for possible opportunities.3) Explore yourself. Be part of different clubs and sports activity. It might help you in finding your interest and potential in other areas.Even if you will not find your interest, do not worry! Involvement in these activities will make you a dynamic personality and try to get the best opportunity that comes on your way!4)  Do not involve yourself into drinking and smoking. It will get you nothing. If you already have this habit, drop it as soon as you join college.( I have dropped smoking as soon as I entered college and I am very much satisfied with that decision). There are better ways of enjoyment and reliving stress.People generally start it considering it as Stylish and soon become addicted.5) You can't please everyone. Focus more on your career than people.People always have something to say. People will judge you, hate you, love you and you will get all sorts of emotions from your colleagues.Keep calm and keep kaam se kaam.6) Keep your personal secrets within yourself. Make sure no one knows you better than yourself.7) Develop reading habit and strong network.8) At some point when your relationship will conflict with your career and ambitions. You must have to chose one.9) Have self confidence about achieving anything and do not judge your potential based on other peoples opinion.10) Have fun! and enjoy Hostel Life. You will soon forget home.

I'm tired of going to college. What should I do?

This is difficult for me because I loved college despite the fact that I was a college drop out. I went to college for ten years and spent the next 40 teaching.I have advised thousands if students though and had this question come up more than once. My best suggestion was to take a break, preferably over the summer break but longer if needed. There is a point of deminishing return in college where one is simply struggling to focus on learning. It could be that you may not be meant to be in college. It really is over rated as far as developing a career. A break will give you a chance to see if you miss it or can you find something else that you would rather do. For all of the pushing for everyone to go to college they for get that there is always a need for skilled craftsmen and eomem. Electricians, welders. Carpenters , pipefittes, etc.On the other hand, you may just having a short term burn out, or perhaps it is the college you are currently attending. Find a couselor or faculty.member you trust and discuss it with them..

Im sick of taking pointless college classes that have nothing to do with my major, I dont want to conform?

What should I do? I know my purpose here is to defend others and thats what I want to do. Get my Bachelors in paralegal studies and take the LSAT and get into law school because im passionate about everything it has to do with, i read political books and read about US history and the constitution all the time! But getting my bachelors degree has become very unappealing due to pointless classes im forced to take in order to graduate. Im currently taking a CISP class which is intro to computers and information technology...our assignments include getting google directions from one place to another. Im wasting 1,000 dollars to learn something I knew since 7th grade?? They wont let us override it either. Also biology credits I do not understand why I have to spend ridiculous amounts of money on!! Im so sick of it i just want to explode. I know people will say 'just put up with it thats how it is" but Im kind of rethinking college and want to figure something else out to not waste my precious LIFE on. But my job i have is a student assistant job, so no school, no job. Im sorry for ranting but I need advice, and want to know if anyone else thinks these pointless classes are ridiculous.
