Does being a vegetarian make you skinny?

Being skinny isn't about what you eat, its about how much you eat. Avoid Veggie Junk food.

Why are vegetarians skinny?

Meat and fat isn't fattening - starch and sugar are fattening. Dr. Atkins pretty much proved that and follow up studies have backed up his findings.

Remember that early humans ate a diet that was about 50% meat. In some cases - e.g. the Inuit - it is closer to 100%. As humans left the forests for the grasslands, we had fewer opportunities to eat fruit and started eating more meat. On the plus side, our meat heavy, omnivorous diet is why we were able to evolve the brains we have today over 2.5 million years - even if we don't always use them.

I think vegetarians are skinny because they they are careful about their diets and watch what they eat. Many vegetarians make sure to eat whole grains and natural, unprocessed foods. However they may also be skinny because they are malnourished. A person following a paleo/Atkins diet - heavy on meat and fat and fruits and veggies, no starch or sugar - will also be slender, while a veg*n eating a ton of pasta, rice, bread and potatoes will be fat AND malnourished. And let's not talk about the results of the standard American diet of fried crap and soda.

Skinny != fit. I've known a few veg*ns who were skinny and they did not look healthy.

Skinny-fat vegetarian diet?

Hi - I’m a 20 year old male that weighs 182 pounds. I’m basically skinny-fat. I have twig thin arms & legs, but a little bit if belly & chest fat. I’m a vegetarian but I don’t consume that much protein. I’d say about 30g daily max. What kinds of diet changes would you suggest for slimming out my torso & getting rid of my bell fat? Would increasing my protein intake help? Is it possible to lose a little bit of belly fat without an intense exercise regime? I just work so much that I rarely have the time or energy to exercise. But I’m open to trying to work more exercise into my schedule. What do you suggest for getting rid of a little belly fat?

Are all Vegetarians really skinny?

god no! why do people think vegand and vegitarians are skinny stick people? /: Really baffles me.

Many top athletes are vegan and are full of muscle and power and all from a plant based diet, no unatural Dairy products or yucky meat. also many celebs are vegan and they are not stick think.. Lea Michelle from Glee, Ellen De Generes and portia rossi as well as many others.

i myself have always been skinny, not really skinny, but i have never put on weight regardless what i eat, i have been vegan over a month and i have neither lost nor gained weight, nor do i intend to cos i love my figure :) i excercise regurlarly with my dog :)

i know vegans and veggies of all sizes/weights etc i also know vegan kids who have always ben vegan and neevr once been to a doctor. says alot i think :)

so no not all vegitarians are skinny, if you folllow a balanced diet and excercise regurlarly you'll be grande :D have you ever considered veganism? it's even better for your health :D

take a look at forks over knives on youtube :) people who have had diabetes, it went away when they went vegan. cos i dont know whether you are aware about milk being bad for you etc, or another good video is gary yourfosky's speech on youtube :)

hope it helps :)

How can I bulk up as a vegetarian? I am naturally very skinny and I want to gain muscle. I am a 23 y/o male.

Seriously, wtf do people mean when they say they’re “naturally skinny”? You mean you got skinny without taking drugs? You bulk up exactly how anyone else would bulk up. Bulking up is all about consuming surplus calories. If you want to gain significant muscle mass, you need to consume more calories than the amount your body burns. In other words, you can’t gain muscle without gaining fat. Fat gain is inevitable when building muscle because everyone knows any calorie your body does not use as energy will be stored as fat. After performing heavy compound movements and muscle growth has been stimulated, your body will use a small portion of the surplus calories to build larger muscles. The rest of the surplus calories will be stored as fat.Literally no one has ever bulked from being on a caloric deficit. Why would someone gain weight from eating less calories than the amount their body burns? If you lift heavy weights but you don’t consume surplus calories, all you’re doing is break down your muscles. That’s it. Your muscles will not get bigger from that. Your muscles might get stronger but they definitely won’t get bigger. And don’t say you have a “fast metabolism.” That’s bullshit. You don’t. A “fast metabolism” does not exist. It’s a myth. Just like when people say muscles turn into fat and fat turns into muscles, or lifting will stunt your growth or even make you shorter. Everyone’s metabolism works the same. If you’re on a caloric surplus, you will gain weight. If you’re on a caloric deficit, you will lose weight. This applies to everyone. Everyone has different TDEE but it doesn’t mean everyone’s metabolism works significantly different from another. If you really do eat “a lot” and have a big appetite, you would not be here asking how to bulk up.

I'm a pure vegetarian and very skinny. I'm too lazy for exercise, and when I eat I feel like I've had enough but then often get hungry in an hour. What do I do to stay fit and good looking?

Its fine that you feel hungry on a regular basis. I would suggest that you start building muscle and adding some definition yo your frame. This can be achieved through simple bodyweight exercises like planks, pushups, pull ups,etc or through lifting weights. I would suggest you go for the 5x5 Strongman program to build strengthand mass. For diet, just eat more and split your intake over 4-6 meals. Try eating eggs, else you can have nutrela nuggets, soya , tofu, milk, cheese, nuts, etc for protein.

I am a 23-year-old vegetarian with a skinny body. I want to put on some weight to look better and more presentable. What is the most healthy way to achieve this for a strict vegetarian?

I have answered this previously but putting same here.Ignore people who tell you WHATS WRONG IN BEING SKINNY ?Coming straight to the point, here is the answer: I  am a vegetarian and a body builder.  I was just 50 kgs when I started  gym and now 80 kg pure muscle. This photograph posted by someone on  college group says it all.Lets start... Start  with pre workout protein shake or a shot of coffee at least half an  hour before gym. That will keep you up and alert in gym. Keep your body hydrated during workout and keep sipping water after every set. Use  whey protein for post workout recovery and then wait for atleast half  an hour. You can add one or two bananas to this shake but not too many. take your breakfast, eat as much as you can but avoid eating fats and oily food items. DO NOT EVEN THINK OF DEEP FRIED items. Before leaving to office/school, keep bananas in your bag and eat one as soon as you  reach there.Lunch time. Eat whatever you can but high sodium/ oily/ deep fried/ packaged food items.Eat remaining bananas when you feel hungry. Dinner. Eat salad, leafy vegetables and easy to digest food. Dont eat too much. take your protein shake/ milk  before sleeping. Milk products make you sleep like a baby and you wont feel hungry in night.Remember :1. keep your body hydrated all the time.2. If you want to gain weight, EAT.3. If you want to lose weight. EAT wisely and clean food. 4. Take proper rest. Keep all your devices/ lights OFF.have problem? Experiment with your routine, sleep like a baby and work out like a beast and watch people watch you.

Should I start eating meat to gain weight? I'm skinny and a vegetarian.

This is clearly stupid. Probably some ignorant rant told you to Eat meat. Your stomach isn't a graveyard. I have a good news for you and it's a certified fact that metabolism changes after 30. You won't be skinny later in life so you gotta respect your body's limits. However if you are looking for help, I doubt if those weight gaining drinks advertised in TV advertising channels work but sure there must be other ways to help you.But Proteinex works! You must have heard of the protein powder. It works really. I did suffer of it LOL. Cheese & Leafy Green Vegetables help too. I would advise you to eat McDonalds but junk food is increasingly unhealthy. The best I can say is, you're wasting your best years, you'd gain weight in late 20′s anyway, if you don't turn to smoking & drinking. And of what you asked, chicken breasts help in buildig muscles, which can be done by protein powders as well, so don't try non veg, you'd feel really sad someone died for you, you know.

How do vegetarian stay skinny despite the high carb meals?

There are several reasons that vegetarians tend to be thinner than the general population (however there are many overweight vegetarians - if you eat more calories than you burn you will gain weight, no matter where those calories come from).Vegetarians tend to be more health conscious. We are already forced to be aware of what we are putting in our bodies so we may be inclined to make healthier choices. Some of the most calorie-dense foods are off-limits to vegetarians. Meat and dishes containing meat are often high in fat. Vegans are even more limited. Of course, foods like nuts and avocado are high in calories, but they are rarely considered the centerpiece of a meal. For example, a typical omnivore’s breakfast might consist of bacon, eggs, and toast. A vegetarian might substitute the bacon for some vegetables mixed in with the eggs, or opt for a smoothie full of fresh fruit and Greek yogurt. Even if the difference was only 100 calories, that adds up over the course of the year. Many “convenience” foods (fast food, frozen dinners, etc) are not suitable for vegetarians. They are also frequently very unhealthy. This means that not only do vegetarians cook more than omnivores, we have to spend more time planning our meals - so we are more conscious of what we eat.Eating vegetarian is expensive!! You can say that meals like beans and rice are inexpensive, but I doubt many vegetarians live on that exclusively. Vegetarians tend to eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and many prefer organic foods. This means that they get fewer calories per dollar.I don't mean to stereotype - there are many unhealthy, overweight vegetarians and many healthy, slim omnivores. I'm just proposing a few possible explanations.
