According to the Yahoo TOS you agreed to when you created your account Yahoo doesn't have to ask for consent or provide any notification that it will be changing its systems. Here's what they have to say on this.

Yahoo! reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Yahoo! Services (or any part thereof) with or without notice. You agree that Yahoo! shall not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, suspension or discontinuance of the Yahoo! Services (or any part thereof).

According to the article above when you cancel your Yahoo Plus account it is converted to a free Yahoo account. It doesn't mention anything about deleting your emails or contacts during this conversion process. I think that would only happen if you close this account. You say you don't trust the advice in Yahoo Help so I don't know what more I can say other than contact Yahoo Customer Care by phone and ask them. Here's how you'd do that.

If you're in the market for a new email provider because you don't like either the new Yahoo mail, I'm told that Inbox.com looks and works much like Yahoo Classic. If you don't like that one there are a dozen more listed in the article below that you can try. You're bound to like one more than you like the new Yahoo mail.

“The post / mail comes later and later these days.” Has your post / mail delivery really got later in the day over the years, if so, why?

I have to say that, in my small city, the mail usually comes at about the same time each day. After reading some of the other answers to this question, I realize that this is a problem in many areas. Not many years ago, carriers spent nearly half of their day inside the Post Office, sorting their mail in delivery sequence. Nowadays, the processing plants can pre-sort the letter mail in delivery sequence, so the carriers don’t have to spend as much time inside the office. Of course, to pre-sort the mail for every town, it takes time at the plants. Therefore, mail does arrive later at the delivery Post Offices. So, the USPS has changed the start-times for the carriers to later in the morning. Plus, over time, they have adjusted the routes to make most of them longer because they figure if a carrier spends less time in the office, he/she can spend more time on the route. Some days, everything goes right--light mail volume, great weather, no carriers call-in sick, the mail from the plant arrives on time, etc.— and the mail is delivered early or on-time. But, on Mondays, or even worse, a Tuesday after a Monday holiday, mail volumes nearly double compared to a “perfect” day. So, on these days, the mail will surely be later. But very few days are perfect days, and any anomaly can delay a carrier. On a perfect day, working for the Post Office is enjoyable. The public is not aware of all the glitches that arise nearly every day, especially at (but not limited to) larger Post Offices. The entire process of moving the U. S. Mail (and the mail in all countries, I’m sure) from collection to delivery is relentless. The mail keeps coming every day. Just when you get the day’s mail delivered, it comes again tomorrow. The employees who bring us our mail are working diligently, despite the weather, the under-staffing, the broken-down trucks, and all the other obstacles that arise rather regularly. If they are later than you expect, at least you have some insight as to the reasons. During my 35 years in the USPS, some days I wondered how we ever got the mail delivered at all. But we did, and they still do. Let’s hope the mail continues its relentless flow!

Plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com setting for mail plus acct ok for mail plus cust w/ 10+ yr acct?

Have mail plus acct on another yahoo id and fortunately no problems accessing pop mail- but read on yahoo help board (was researching another question) that yahoo now also shows 'pop.mail.yahoo.com' as server setting for mail plus customers- is 'pop.mail.yahoo.com' setting for new mail plus accts accts but for those loyal mail plus users (over 10+ yrs w/ mail plus acct) we can rest easy knowing 'plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com' is fine? thanks in advance for clarifying

Is plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com still ok to use for yahoo mail plus accts?

Is plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com still ok to use under Outlook and Outlook Express to receive yahoo mail from a yahoo mail plus account? Been using it for years.

Only asking because, past week or so whenever I go to retrieve email via Outlook or Outlook Express [which has all the right settings including SSL enabled and 'keep copy on server' checked/enabled, port 465 (receive) w/ SSL and port 995 (send) w/ SSL checked, which is how those programs have always been set up since I started using pop mail on yahoo plus acct], seems when I get new messages I get error message for each message number for each new message, and if I then hit button to 'receive again' those messages do fortunately come through.

Error message I get is Message number ##### (I'm leaving that # out for privacy) could not be retrieved. Account: 'Yahoo Mail', Server: 'plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR [SYS/TEMP] problem retrieving message.', Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD If there's more than one new email, I get that message listed for each respective message number.

Anyone else know if this is something yahoo tech team is working on this issue? Thanks.

Why is Yahoo Mail completely useless with Microsoft Windows 10?

I have a Yahoo email id, but it’s not my main email id. I have not experienced the problems you describe, and I have never paid Yahoo anything for using that email id.If I was you I would have dumped that Yahoo Mail a long time ago and moved on to any one of the many free email programs. You see, under the covers, the Yahoo mail system is a perfectly ordinary POP3 email account that you could operate either by web mail in your browser (less than perfect) or with an email program on your PC. I have Thunderbird, and it works well for me.To comment on other aspects of your question…I use a couple of other Yahoo systems, and I notice that they have deteriorated over the last few years. It is quite noticeable that Yahoo’s own systems are badly designed, badly written, unreliable, and that their employment policies they have driven away anyone good who ever worked for them. Everything there is crumbling, falling apart.

What do you think of people who change their email every few years?

There are pros and cons to both keeping the same email and changing it.  The longer one has an email address, generally speaking, the more spam they get.  So for that reason folks sometimes change email addresses.  OTOH, if you want to be readily "found" by people from the past that you do not keep track of, having the same email address you had 15 or 20 years ago is a plus.  I have one email address that I have had for ages, and several other email addresses that I do not keep for such a long time.
