I Am Trying Out For Cross Country And I Need To Make The Team

How do I join a cross-country team in college?

I am a senior girl in highschool and I have been running since I was in 6th grade off and on. I am just now completing my third varsity season at my highschool. I'm pretty fast, ranked 3rd or 4th on my team, but not anything out of this world. My best 5k time is 21:15 and I know I can break 21 if I work hard enough. I havn't done track because of various conflicts but I plan on running track this spring. I really love running and even though i'm not the fastest, it's my dream to run in college. I know I can run at some division 3 schools. However, my top school choice is a division 2 school. They have about 20 girls on their team. Is it possible for me to run on a division 2 team? How would I get onto a college team like this? Could I at least run JV for a divison 2 team? How would this work?

I really don't care about getting money for running, I just want to compete and be part of a team. Even if i'm competing at a JV level.

What do you do at cross country tryouts?

I don't think you'll have to worry to much about it; normally we don't have official tryouts unless there are a lot of people going out for the team.
I'd ask your coach if I were you to make sure, but most coaches will probably have you do a warm up and maybe a 5k time trial, just to see where you're at.

Just make sure you have a good work ethic and show that you're willing to improve and become a better runner!

What is cross country like? and am i fit enough to make the team?

I am thinking of trying out for cross country this fall, but am scared of not being good enough and i don't want to make a fool of myself!
I am a junior, but i am new to the states (just moved here from Europe). meaning that i have no idea about sports here!
i go to the gym mostly everyday for 2 hours (i do cycling, boxing, weight training, and on the machines sometimes) when i go for a run i can run about 7 kilometers = 4.34959835 miles in 1hr.
is that good enough? what should i be good at for cross country? am i fit enough? what is cross country like?
hope you guys can help me and give me some tips :)

Can you tryout for a college cross country team without running in highschool?

it depends on the college. Go to the college website and check out the athletic/cc info to find the coach's name, email, phone number, etc. Then either call or email and tell him that you are interested and the times/races you have ran. Most colleges will be glad to let you practice with the team to determine your abilities. Bigger colleges are less likely to be willing to let you, but it depends on the coach.

The important thing is to get it done now, so they can send you a summer practice schedule to start on and to know when the team is "reporting" to college, some come a week or two early to get organized practices in before they start their competition schedule. A lot of soccer players make good distance runners and female distance runners are usually in demand at smaller colleges.

Dance team, cross country, or majorettes?

so i think the answeres to this question are going to be slightly biased because you put it in the DANCING section

but maybe you did that subconsciously and really want to choose dance
who knowss

just think about what makes you happiest

and i dont know if this is an option but can you try out for dance or majorettes and still have your spot on the cross country team if you dont make it?

Should i do cross country or volleyball?

im going into sophomore year and i didn’t try out as a freshmen for the volleyball team. i attend a charter school (so it’s not public) but i always can join the school im zoned for in sports. i have done volleyball for about 3 years now. i did volleyball for my charter school in eighth and ninth grade and i did other teams throughout it. ive done camps as well. but i think it was a mistake that i didn’t try out as a freshmen because now if i try out as a sophomore they already know their players that will return. so would it be a waste of time to try out?? i would love to make the team. now for cross country, im a natural at running. i have the body and all. i have endurance as well, and I’ve done cross country before. i like running as well. i love both sports, but what should i do?? would i even make junior varsity for volleyball? should i just play it safe with cross country?

How fast do you have to be to get into cross country?

well i know at my high school, you don't have to try out for cross country. you automatically make it. unless you are extremely bad i guess. i'm going to be a senior and this is my first year doing it. i have never run long distance before because i am a sprinter and i want to get better and stay in shape. my first 5k ever was 27.24, which is kind of eh. I can't really give you a time that you should get. But by doing cross country and making it, you will get so much better! Since its summer, i have summer practice 6 days a week on a boardwalk near my town. I ran 4.5 miles this week, and each week the mileage goes up. Its whatever your body can do. I'm not doing cross country to be the best on the team. I'm doing it because i love running and i want to get better. Trust me, you will get a lot better if you put the effort and practice into it. :) good luck !

Should I join my high school’s cross country team even if I’m not fit/have no experience in running (I’m going into 9th grade. I’m 5′1, about 115 pounds, and a female)?

You will find yourself in good company! If your doc clears you to run, by all means, run! One thing you can do prior to X-C: trying running a little on your own over the summer (2–3 times per week). Run/walk to start if necessary. Work up to 3 miles in 30 minutes, if possible. Don’t neglect your flexibility after runs. Stretch! Chances are, a coach will expect you to run a couple of miles right out of the gate. And you’ll be ahead of most of the freshman girls when you get there.

Should I join my school’s cross-county team even if I’m not fit?

I personally think that it’s a great idea as it can help you become more fit and you can interact socially with other people while running. I don’t know about other schools, but my school doesn’t have a “try-out” for Cross Country. Everyone can join but there is a JV team and a Varsity team in which only the top seven get to run Varsity. Unlike other sports in which not all the players get to play, everyone can run in all of the meets except maybe a select few like states which doesn’t have a JV race. A lot of people on my Cross Country team do Cross Country to help them get fit for other sports. But before the season starts, make sure to get some light running in on your own so that you have a lower risk of getting injured during the season. I hope this helps and good luck!

How can I run cross country when I'm on my period?

Hey!! I'm a runner as well & I just run as I normally would! Periods are rough, can't deny that, but with the right attitude & using certain things definitely helps! In my opinion running with a pad is much harder than a tampon, with a pad on it shifts & becomes less sticky especially when you sweat from everywhere on those long runs! Tampons just kinda sit there, it makes it easier.I think the worst thing about running on your period is cramps, the bleeding part isn't even that bad! It's just the fact i'm endlessly hungry & cramps! For cramps I just take motrin! It's a lifesaver for sure!! It helps with my headaches & cramps. For the endless hunger, I try to eat a lot of food that gives me energy. I eat lots of veggies (sometimes dipped in chocolate such as carrots or grapes to fill that chocolate craving) or protein bars!! Some look like a straight candy bar & it tricks my mind & tastebuds! All in all, running shouldn't be that different when you have the right tools! The hardest part for me is definitely the food part because I just wanna eat the whole house but if you eat healthier then you'll have more energy & all around feel better!! There's lots of snacks that are healthy & good! Also protein & Iron is a big one too. You lose lots of iron during your cycle so supplements help, I'm not sure if lack of iron with effect your running but I still take them! Good luck, & run fast!! ;)
