I Am Trying To Make A Minecraft Server.

How do I get more players on my Minecraft server?

I generally agree with other answers - some reasonable and consistent ruleset + community + advertising is the way. I tried to play it for couple of minutes and I have these notes:- Abundance of messages, I really hate it and it distract from playing- Information usually does not make much sense. For example rules say what is wrong, but not what is right. There is the RPG plugins available, so maybe you want the RPG fans, but there is no info about that. Or maybe you hate them, but why the plugin then. - Inconsistency. There are the simple shops, but random wild teleportation points, but no monsters (easy/peaceful game mode?). So it's not clear if you want newbies or experienced players or which other kind of players. My advice:Think about the server concept. For example I like the survival part the most, but I miss monsters. I like the random wild locations, but it's not clear how can I interact with other players. Also, there is no residence plugin (or I could not find it) and it's not clear how you defend against griefers. I don't mind to mine for resources, but when the diamonds can be bought in a shop, then what is the whole point? With affordable admin shop you attract the lovers of easy game play, is it what you want? Tune down the self promo thing. If I play, I want to enjoy it. I will vote for you if I like the server. I don't care about some stupid reward thing. I also don't understand the command cool down timer. Last command I did was /spawn and there I had to wait two minutes (not 2 seconds as for teleport) for no reason on an empty server. You treat me as a bad person from the very beginning and I don't like it. I expect you to protect my gameplay not to protect the gameplay against me. About advertising and community - paid advertising is not wrong, but it's not the only way. Maybe start to invite people you know and tell them why they should join. Make the server working for them first. They can invite more people.

Im trying to make a minecraft server but my run.bat file closes immediately after it opens how can i stop it?

minecraft.net..... go to download.... go to download1.8.1 server... open the file and run the application... you will notice that alot of files will appear in the folder where the application is.. the one called server 'text file' open it and put in your ip adress. save it the x out. AND put port number 25565. then you have to go in your router settings and set up and portforwarding to your computer. find that on youtube

Minecraft Server .jar is a .zip?

check the file extension of the file you downloaded. jar files are like zip files (you can use winrar to open them but not useable to the average user. Make sure you enable "show file extensions" in folder option under tools. Odds are is that the file you downloaded is a jar file but you are opening it up looking for it when the actual file you downloaded is the jar file.

I am trying to set up a Minecraft server through my Windows VPS server. I have done all port forwarding and firewall exceptions but I still can't seem to connect to it using my external IP address and port. How should I troubleshoot this?

Try following suggestions:Make sure that port you are connecting with is not blocked at your ISP also double check that port is allowed in VPS Firewall.Switch to some other ISP and try to connect to server.Make sure that your local system Firewall is not blocking the outbound connections to that particular port.Have a try to connect with disabling the local system firewall and VPS firewall one by one so you can filter out firewall in question.Try connect to VPS through Telnet on specified port and make sure you can connect to server.

How can I make myself admin on my minecraft server? Also how can I make a friend VIP?

Configure the server by editing the server.properties (Use this link to see how it works). Windows may not recognize it, so tell it to open with any word processor (such as Notepad or Notepad++). The server should run fine from the default values.

Add your username to the admin.txt and/or ops.txt (newer versions may not have an admin.txt file). Admin.txt allows you to execute server commands, and op privileges allows you to destroy/place blocks. Add the name exactly as it is. From the server gui, you can type "op " and it will automatically update the ops.txt file

What server IP do I give my friends for Minecraft?

http://www.whatsmyip.org/ <-- use this number at the top of the page to allow people to connect

also make sure that you allow your router (if you have one) to allow people through it.

You do this easily by having a static IP address, and using the number on it with the port to allow people through it

for example, I use:
192.168.0.--- : Port 7777 (25565 in your case)

User guide on how to setup a static ip:
http://portforward.com/networking/static...
After this you will log into your router and allow the port using your static IP address as the IP, and the UCIP / TCIP port as the port you want to use.. in this case 25565
To log into your router: Open up the start menu, type CMD, open the only available program. and then type "ipconfig /all" (Do not put the quotes "" in) You should be able to find it under 'Default Gateway" I believe.. just use the guide above that I linked to help more.

also be sure to allow it to bypass your firewall as well if that applies, which you can find in your control panel -> system and security -> allow a program through windows firewall -> and adding the port number to open.

I've never played Minecraft, but this is the basic way of setting up access to anything you host... I used this for Terraria.

Do Minecraft servers primarily make money by banning kids and forcing them to pay to be unbanned?

I'm the owner of a fairly popular Minecraft server (http://dhmc.us) - we see around 400+ unique players every day and have seen almost 14,000 players since we began. All servers have to find a way to cover costs. It's how they go about it that can cause problemsMost servers operate on optional donations. Players are encourage to donate money to help cover the costs of the hardware and networking costs of the actual server. Most servers offer special benefits to those who donate - in-game money, special abilities, etc.Server donation policies vary from the extremely-relaxed to the required. Ours doesn't offer any special benefit to donors because we want players to simply focus on playing, and no one should have benefits over those who can't pay. Those who do pay, know they're literally paying back money I spent (about $137/mo plus hardware costs now and then). It's actually worked very well for us. We're covering our bill, not making tons of profit.I've seen servers that give absolute control to those who pay the right price. I've seen servers who require payments to be unbanned - so it's not a leap to imagine a server where the moderators are out to ban whoever they feel did something remotely wrong."Corrupt staff" is actually a very common problem. I've tried other servers myself where the staff are nothing but power-hungry idiots. Most of our players tell us that they love our server so much because we spend a lot of time keeping our staff in check, we don't require donations (ranking up is achieved through actual playtime, not money). There are some servers that manage to rake in thousands of dollars a month and from the ones I've tried, they're absolute hell holes to actually play on.Hope that helps. You should have him player on our server ;)
