I Am Trying Very Hard To Find The Sight And Sound Magazine Issues With The Best Films Poll.they

To men: do you think crying is unmanly?

no..i dont think so.

Sometimes ea makes a "long e" sound, as in the word "seat". Other times it makes the "short e" sound as ...

I always just teach my 2nd graders that "when 2 vowels go a-walking, the 1st one does the talking", and then get to the exceptions later on down the road. There aren't as many of the the short e words with that combination of letters, so just teach them the rule, then give them the list of exceptions to the rule.

It's rough, I know. :-)

Edit:

I just dealt with that last week, as a matter of fact. ITBS is a killer. I really wish I could help you more, but we're in the same boat, I'm afraid.

(I tell mine straight up that the test makers are always trying to be sly and tricky, and that they need to be on their guard against those under-handed "same vowel sound" questions.)

Most lists of "the greatest films of all time" only contain films made before 1980. Is there a bias at play? Have filmmakers actually gotten worse?

There are several factors at play.  First, it takes a few years to establish if a film is great or not.  It seems like you should be able to figure it out at the time, but often this isn't the case.  A film that captures the imagination this year might not age well.  And another film that didn't quite get traction turns out to have staying power.  It's generally acknowledged that you often just can't tell right away.Filmmakers have not gotten worse, but things have definitely changed.  We are moving quickly into an entirely new era of creativity.  Because of the huge expense of films, the tremendous competition and the home theater, movie economics have changed.  They have to be either very cheap or very, very expensive.  Anything in the middle is hard to make a profit on.When movies are hugely expensive blockbuster affairs, they are very formulaic and there is meddling at every level, creating more Frankenstein than art.  It shows in all the gaping plot holes, crappy villains, endless pointless action scenes and dismal dialog in today's action films. The other option is to have a very inexpensive film, but these are then quickly shot and with less attention to detail.  So we're missing that in between area where most great films are created.  Enough of a budget to make a good film, but not a bloated affair with endless demands on it.There is another very significant change in the works.  Netflix and Amazon streaming are drastically changing how we watch television and this is changing TV very much for the better.  It is now the focal point for creativity. All the talent that was once poured into film is now going into TV.   TV shows are the best they have ever been and are getting better by the day.  The TV series featuring superheroes for example has been shown to be great drama in almost every case.  Why?  It's because it's now on demand.  We can follow a 13 hour story at our leisure, in the proper sequence.  Done right, a story that long is far more compelling than a 1 1/2 hour show.  The characters are explored in detail and all of the important themes are explored.TV also relies on a lot of new ideas and concepts.  It is, slowly replacing film as the dominant visual art form.

What makes it hard for an autistic person to make friends?

I am a 37 yr old autistic woman and I find that people are put off by my faux pas, inability to read facial expressions, forgetting names, interrupting, asking too personal questions, changing topics etc. People begin avoiding you like the plague, initially they are nice, but then they start avoiding you. Sometimes I am perceived as rude, sometimes weird, sometimes 'with issues'.

I find the best way to make friends is to make friends with people that speak English as a second language, they are less perterbed by odd nuances that we autistics have. The next thing is to pick people that aren't of your age bracket.

My blunted affect is usually misinterpreted

Friendships are hard to maintain. Currently I have 3 friends that I have maintained for 3 years.

I find it absolutely comical when I do disclose the autism that suddenly people speak loud and S-L-O-W which is ironic since my IQ is higher than most anybody's

I know how to make friends, I am just not very good at it. I do notice by other people's reactions when I interrupt, change topic, when I get a blank stare back after I said something, unfortunately I notice after I've gone against a social norm.

It gets easier in college, you will find more people with like interests.

I find after having a social interaction, I need down time, and a lot of it.

I became a psych nurse, that way my differences don't stand out. Most people that go into the field have 'issues'. Hilarious when I run a group on 'communication'.

This neighbour keeps giving my grandaughter dirty looks and?

Take a video camera out when your daughter is playing n the yard. Video tape your daughter playing and when the neighbor comes out, turn the camera on her. Film her for a few minutes and then back to your granddaughter, if she doesn't stop, pan back to her. After that, the next time your daughter goes out to play, video the woman from inside your house at the window. Then walk back out with the camera and video the lady again. After you have proof that your child is not doing anything wrong and also have proof that this woman is giving your child dirty looks when she goes out side, then you can talk with the police or city council yourself.

What on earth is Daisy's Destruction?

I feel kind of weird answering this, but since nobody else seems to know anything about it, here goes nothing...
Now I've seen some pretty depraved **** and am pretty much desensitized at this point, but this is one thing I never ever want to see. I only know about it from other people.
It is basically a child snuff film, showing a young child (3 to 8 yo. depending on whom you ask) being raped, tortured and eventually killed by several adults.
Do not watch it. Do not try to find it.
You will be
a) in deep ****
b)scarred for life
There are some things you will never be able to forget. As I said, I've seen some gruesome videos online, but even I dare not touch this hellish piece of ****. I'm glad it's buried somewhere in the deep web; you should be too.
