I Bit My Tongue When Eating The Other Day It Really Hurts And Is Swollen

What one should do after they bit their tongue, and it hurts to eat?

If the bruise on the tongue is not too serious, you can try the following:1)  Apply toothpaste onto the bruised part of the tongue.  The mint releases a cooling sensation onto the stinging area.2) Gargle with salt and water.  This helps to maintain the salinity of the tongue and heal the wound.   Sometimes you may only need to gargle with lukewarm water. 3)  You may also grab a piece of ice and place it on the affected part of the tongue.  The ice’s coolness will eliminate the pain.  Also, the ice cold feeling helps the exposed blood vessels to heal faster, thus preventing further bleeding.4) Applying aloe vera juice against the bruise will help treat the bruised tongue.  Sometimes aloe vera comes in a gel form that makes applying it easier.5) Gargling cold water and holding the water in your mouth helps some people get rid of the pain completely.  If you do this, be careful that the water is not so cold that the blood vessels in the mouth become numb. Do NOT:  rinse with a mouthwash with alcohol in it; it will sting and it won't help the area heal any faster.

Why do we bite our cheeks or tongue when eating?

Barring dental issues, we bite our cheeks and tongue when eating because of friction. When we bite ourselves accidentally, it’s a sign that parts of our mouth are dry. When your mouth is chewing, your teeth are constantly running against the cheeks because your cheeks are what keeps your food in, and sometimes comes into contact with your tongue because your tongue keeps your food moving. In fact, evolution has developed rather clever methods to keep yourself from damaging these parts: in the slippery gummy surface of your mouth, and in the way you produce saliva inside your mouth. This produces natural lubrication for you to chew on :)However, your body can only do so much before this lubrication is exhausted. In other words, your mouth may have dried up before or during your meal. This may be because moisture has disappeared from the lining your of mouth or something in your food has repelled that very moisture. Dry foods (e.g. bread) are one culprit because they absorb too much moisture, while oily foods (e.g. pizza) are another because they are hydrophobic. If the food is both dry and oily, you will turn your mouth into an arid desert. You can prevent yourself from biting your mouth by drinking water before your meal, and avoiding foods that are too dry or too oily. The water alone should greatly reduce the chance of you biting yourself, and your choice of food should make it non-existent. If you do bite yourself, you should fill your mouth with water to moisten the inside of your mouth, especially pressing the water over the bite to prevent a re-bite.Source: Experience. When I started drinking a glass before every meal, I saw the frequency of my biting myself drop significantly.

I bit my tongue about 4-5 days ago and it still hurts. What can I do to make it go away?

Put about a half teaspoon of salt in a glass and fill the glass with warm water so that the salt dissolves. Take a mouthful of it and hold it in your mouth moving your tongue so the salty water can get to the sore place (don't swallow it!!) and after a few seconds, spit the water out and take in some new salt water. Warm salt water is very healing to mouth sores and discomforts.

How can I heal a sore tongue?

Greetings Dianna,Your tongue is essentially like a sponge and it soaks up nutrients as well as toxins. You relate a “sore” tongue, but I am not sure if you mean swollen, red, or if you have other symptoms?Your tissues will let you know when you are toxic and need to detoxify, it’s why so many people recommend saline water but make sure it’s not just salt, it’s Celtic Sea Salt, or a good quality salt with iodine and bathe the tongue allowing the tissues to detoxify. You will need to look at your diet, stress and lifestyle.Hope this helps~Home | www.naturallywithkaren.com

Why does my tongue feel weird after eating kiwi?

My tongue feels itchy and irritated as I write down this answer. Having eaten a whole kiwi left a burning sensation in my mouth. Googling the symptoms, I was secretly hoping for a non-allergic reaction because I have an exam tomorrow. Relieved after I knew the cause of this weird sensation, I am here writing down this answer.Kiwi (Actinidia callosa) have been known to have a cysteine protease enzyme, Actinidain which acts on tongue cell and degrade the proteins. Actinidain, in lesser quantities, is known to be present in mangoes and banana too. Eating a lot of fruit with actinidain gives you the itchy, irritated and weird sensation, which I am going through right now.Similarly, eating a lot of pineapple causes cuts on tongue. Bromolain, a protease enzyme found in pineapple is the culprit in this case. The protein degrading activity of these enzymes fetch them a job in meat tenderisation industry.Just drink a glass of water and wait for the cuts to heal within 2–3 days.Ch(h)eers,CK

Got tongue pierced two days ago and its indented and a bit white?

That's fairly normal. No matter how long your jewelry is, the top ball tends to rest right on your tongue because of your saliva, it lubricates the tongue and the jewelry just kind of slips down. That's why you have an indentation. But honestly, as long as the jewelry isn't too tight, it's only a cosmetic problem, don't worry about it too much. It might go away, it might not. I had that problem too, back when I had my tongue pierced.

As for the white circle, I doubt you're cleaning it too much. It's true that over cleaning can cause a white film to cover the tongue, but in that case, the film would cover the entire tongue. As far as I'd assume, that's just how oral tissue reacts to an injury. If you've ever seen a cancer sore, or cut your gums, you'd notice the same discoloration. Mine did the same thing too, and I never had any sort of problem like infection or hypergranulation, or anything like that.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I bit my tongue now it's swelling or something?

I bit my tongue the other day and it kind of swelled a little then I bit the same place yesterday (stupid gum) Anyhow it looks like a blister or canker sore or something. Will it go away, it gets in the way of chewing and it hurts I don't want to bite it again. Is it infected or something?

Got my tongue pierced 3 days ago.. Still hurts bad. Normal?

I pierced my tongue on Saturday afternoon and it has been really swollen as expected but it really really hurts to eat and talk for long periods at a time. It doesn't look infected although I'm afraid it is. I have been using non alcohol mouthwash often and eating ice. Is this pain normal?

Should I be concerned if my tongue bite hasn't healed within a week?

I am sorry about your wound.Have you been accidentally biting it or rolling it subconsciously? That could delay the healing. Also try to be careful with eating, all the food that you eat scratches the wound and slows down whatever healing has been done by scraping it again. You shouldn't be concerned if there are no signs of infection (redness, swelling, ozzy liquid/discharge)Also, have you been recently cut apart from your tongue and noticed slow healing? If your wounds take longer time to heal in general, you might need to get checked medically for that.
