I Bought A Car In Kansas And Lost The Title Before I Got It Registered What Can I Do

My car title is under someone else's name and I can't register my car. I can't locate the previous owners who sold it me. What should I do?

Buy another car very similar from the junkyard, with title. Remove the windshield and underlying VIN from that car, ans put them on your car.Check with your state’s tax office. If your car has a lien, you can /have to negotiate with the lienholder. I did this once and TTL’d an abandoned car for $400.Junkyards don’t sell titles? No problem, just do the same thing with another used car. Next time save yourself this hassle and get the title transferred before handing over the cash.

Lost car title - can it be replaced?

Most states will provide you with a duplicate title with a minimum of hassle, as long as you have your driver's license so you can prove you are the real owner of the car. Just go to your local Department of Motor Vehicles and tell them you need to obtain a duplicate title. In my state it costs $10.00 and it (the duplicate) will arrive in the mail in about a week. They also have a special place only in the state capital where you can go and they will make it for you while you wait, so you don't have to wait for the mail to deliver it. Don't worry about it, it's really no big deal.

Honda Express NO TITLE, want to register, PLEASE HELP!!! :(?

recently purchased a 1981 Honda Express in amazing original shape
the guy I purchased it from bought it from the original owner, but the original owner lost the title

I understand that without a title, I cannot register it under my name in California

what I DO NOT understand, is the distinction between thee Express being a MOPED, a SCOOTER, or a MOTORIZED-DRIVEN CYCLE (in accord with California DMV laws)

through exstensive research, Ive come across the REG230 form. its intended use, however, is to register MOPEDS, with PEDALS for human propulsion. though I dont understand what California classifies the Express as.

its definitely not a motorcycle, a moped cuz it doesnt have pedals, but it should be a scooter. but scooters require titles???!!?!

someone, anyone..
please help me
what are the necessary steps to get this Express riding on the road LEGALLY???

I am desperate...!

Can I register a car in CA with an out of state driver's license?

I’m going to try in a couple months, I’ll update if it works. Spoiler: odds are pretty good it will work.I disagree with Dan Wallander’s answer, he even links to California Car Registration Requirements & Steps | DMV.org, which is a great resource, but it doesn’t back up his claims. It says you have to provide ID when registering your car, but doesn’t say it has to be a CA issued ID. It doesn’t even say it has to be a drivers license so in theory you could just use your passport (idk this for sure, but I think I’ll try it). The site has a section on establishing residency and a separate section for registering a vehicle, but no where in the register vehicle section does it say you have to do the resident part first. If you still don’t believe me consider this scenario:What if I have a vacation house in CA? I’m a resident of another state and spend most the year there, but I want to have a car in CA so I can just fly in for vacation and have wheels to get around in? Obviously the CA car is not going to have plates from the other state because I’m well off enough that I just bought a nice car to go with my vacation house. And I can’t be bothered to drive it back to the other state just to register it and drive it back to CA, what a huge waste of time. This is not the scenario I’m in, but I imagine it’s not too unheard of since CA does have plenty of vacation worthy areas. And some very wealthy areas that contain the kind of people capable of this scenario.A police officer in CA can also pull you over if they repeatedly see you with out of state plates over the course of several weeks. CA wants the car you have in CA to be registered with them so they can collect the money for it using CA roads. Regardless of where your license is. Out-of-state license plates: California clamping down on drivers who avoid feesThere are also people from foreign countries that buy cars in the US to travel around in while they are here and then sell them when they leave. If you’re a member of AAA, use them, in CA they have the power to register vehicles. That’s not the case in every state, but it’s worth the membership even if just for the first year to save yourself the visit to a CA DMV, trust me.UPDATE: Today (11/22/16) I completed registration of a motorcycle in CA, but I kept my CO license. There was no issue. Please leave a comment or message me if you have any questions about what you need to do. The more details you can provide for your situation the more I can help.

Is it illegal to sign the title to a deceased person's car?

Yes this is illegal. When the deceased does not have a will he is said to have died intestate and his estate is distributed based on the laws of the land.

Lineal heirs always get first crack in every state...a lineal heir is a child or a parent...not siblings, and it usually goes down before it goes up. Usually siblings don't inherit through intestacy laws when a child exists. You need to contact an attorney..what they are doing is illegal.

How Long Does it Take to get a lost title back in Missouri??

Up to 30 days, but since cars are sold by title, if you bought one and didn't get a title, you really didn't buy it.

Without seeing the title, how do you know there isn't a bank loan against it? Without seeing the title, how do you know it isn't a stolen car?
