The pocket knife is a folding knife with one or more blades that can be folded down into the handle of the knife for safe and convenient storage.

Many different types and styles of folding pocket knives were created to address different needs, from single-blade knives to multi-blade knives with various other tools included. They are still practical tools to have on hand, especially when camping or hunting.

Is it illegal to have a pocket knife?

Concealed-- A knife measuring 3.5 or shorter is legal as long as it is a folding knife and has no spring assist such as a switch blade (in most states, in CA knife laws are different being some cities have their own ordinaces)...other knifes that are not legal are but not limited to butterfly knives, throwing knives, ballistic knives, etc....In other words the only knives acceptable are those with a folding knife....

Also in the state of California it is a illegal to cary a concealed knife in schools, hospitals, court houses, or other government building unless you are using it to perform a duty or is approved...Some colleges do allow students to carry as long as the knife is no longer then 2.5 inches....

Also flashing you knife around or threatening someone with your knife is a crime and is a felony called menacing with a deadly weapon...

Carrying a knife unconcealed must be carried in a sheath and must follow guidelines in itself...

While dealing with California knife laws, some cities have their own ordinances on knife length, types of knives that are legal and illegal, carrying them in schools, etc etc...Also may be illegal for a minor in some CA cities to carry a knife...

It really depends on where in the world you are at the time. Both ‘where’ and ‘when’ count because laws change. The almost entirely world-safe view is to carry a folding, non-locking (slip joint) knife with a blade length of 3″ or less. There will still be places where even that is illegal (if you are a non-US resident travelling in NY, possession of any kind of knife is illegal, and you may encounter problems in Germany and Australia). There are also restrictions in certain areas (there are total bans on carrying any kind of knife in schools, courtrooms, cruise liners, departure lounges, etc.) and some countries place legal constraints on the purchase or possession of knives by anyone under 18 years of age.America is particularly complex here, because the statutes are covered by state and city ordinances rather than federal law. So, a switchblade might be legal in Arizona, but is illegal in neighbouring Nevada, Colorado, and New Mexico, and illegal if the blade is longer than 2.5″ in California.

Is it illegal to carry a pocket knife in your pockets? I always carry one because I live in a rough area.?

You should seriously consider getting your concealed carry permit if you live in a rough neighborhood. I can pretty much assure you that in most situations 5 .357 magnums in an attakcers center mass is better than just lunging at him with a knife. Especially a bad idea if he were armed!

As far as use of deadly force goes, if you are afraid for the life of yourself or a person that you care about you have the right (and in my opinion obligation) to use lethal force. That basically sums up the law in all states but all states have pages and pages of laws dealing with the use of deadly force. The above is just a basic summary.

In court you'd just have to say, "If i didn't proceed in my course of action innocent people would have been seriously injured or killed during the muggers actions. If i could go back to that day i would not have changed a single thing i've done. I do feel sorry for his family but i would feel even worse if innocent people had died and i could have done something about it."

I'm sure that would win the jury over right then and there.

And the way i look at it. It's better in prison than in a bodybag

It is not illegal to carry pocket knife in the state of Florida,You can open carry any knife.Box cutters, multi-tools, and other work knives are legal to carry concealed. In most cases, conceal carry of a common pocket knife with a blade of less than 4 inches is legal.Anything outside of this has not been expressly banned or allowed : “ source: Knifeup.com”What the Law saysFla. Stat. § 790.01 (2012)§ 790.01. Carrying concealed weapons[A] person who carries a concealed weapon […] on or about his or her person commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.“Concealed weapon” means any dirk, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie, tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon carried on or about a person in such a manner as to conceal the weapon from the ordinary sight of another person.“Weapon” means any dirk, knife, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie, tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon except a firearm or a common pocketknife, plastic knife, or blunt-bladed table knife.Let's dig it deeper! It is a crime to carry a concealed weapon. Concealed weapon means any deadly weapon that is outside of sight of others. Courts have found that deadly weapons are weapons that can cause death or grave bodily harm. So, what kinds of knives counts as deadly weapons? What is a “common pocket knife? Well, the law doesn’t say so it is up to the courts to determine.

“Why” is it illegal? In the late 19th and early 20th century, handguns were expensive, bulky and rarely carried by urban dwellers unless they had the means to afford them. While most cities had banned the carry of such weapons (or even severely curtailed their ownership) most had not bothered to do use with knives, bludgeons, brass knuckles and other , assorted defensive and offensive weapons.Since firearms were out of the financial reach of many minorities, immigrants and the “criminal class”, knives and clubs were their defensive tools. Since these groups frequently had interactions with the authorities (minorities and immigrants because who they were) the police often removed knives from these individuals. This lead to city councils and state legislatures to ban knives over a certain length as being “thug’s weapons.” These bans later encompassed switchblades and “gravity knives” as well as all so-called dirks and daggers.Decades later ,even though technology has allowed for firearms to be reduced in size, weight and price, knives are still viewed many as being “thug’s weapons” and are banned beyond a certain length. In most municipalities, any knife, folding or fixed blade over four inches is viewed as being a “weapon” instead of a tool. While this is debatable (personally I have never viewed a double-edged knife as being a “tool”) there hasn’t been a grassroots movement to change knife laws across the country.Sooo…decades ago municipalities picked an arbitrary length over which knives would be deemed illegal. They codified laws that enforced these bans and they have remained on the books ever since.OPINION: Frankly, folding knives over four inches are nearly worthless. They are too large to be easily concealed (the purpose of a folding blade), they don’t have a hilt to prevent the user’s hand from sliding over the blade if used “offensively” and the locking mechanisms on all but the most expensive models are questionable in their functionality. If you are looking at a knife over four inches, I would always advise that you purchase a fixed blade.

No. It’s not illegal to carry a pocket knife, or other knife in Norway as long as you’re carrying the knife for a “aktverdig” purpose which I guess can be translated approximately to reputable, respectable, reasonable or sensible purpose. It’s true that § 189 in our criminal law makes it illegal to carry weapons, including both firearms and knives — but that very same paragraph also explicitly says that this prohibition does NOT apply for weapons carried for a “aktverdig” purpose.Carrying a pocket-knife because of the utility it has as a tool would certainly be a valid purpose, and the same would be true for transporting a knife that you have bought for outdoor, hunting, kitchen, souvenir or some other sensible purpose back to your home. The purpose of this law is to ban the carrying of knives intended to be used as a weapon in fights with other people. But I don’t think there’s any reason to worry about this law as a tourist who are buying a knife as a souvenir. The size of the knife in question isn’t directly relevant, except to the degree the type of knife says something about what purpose it’s carried for.For example a traditional Sami knife can be up to about a foot in length, and is nevertheless regularly sold and bought as a souvenir. You shouldn’t bring a knife intended to be a weapon with you in a public space without a sensible purpose in Norway though. If you go out on the town on a Saturday evening, and you bring with you this thing:Then yes; odds are the police would see that as a knife intended to be a weapon and you’d be committing a crime.

Is it legal to have a fold-able pocket knife with a blade almost 3 / Three Inches?

If you are an American in America, then yes. The second amendment says so. The laws on length of concealed knives and whether or not you need a permit vary by state, but I think three inches is universally acceptable, permit or no.

I have never seen an age-based knife rule. The laws classify the weapons, not the wielders, then make “exceptions” based on the wielder (who could be a police officer, have a CCW, or be a convicted violent felon). None of the exceptions I know of specify age.Though there is no right to bear arms (as decided by the Supreme Court long ago). So you don’t have the right to take that knife to a store or a school.PENAL CODE CHAPTER 46. WEAPONSThough double-checking TX statutes, they effectively made carrying a 5.5″ (blade) knife illegal for minors, though that would imply that any blade under 5.5″ is expressly legal.Texas HB1935 | 2017-2018 | 85th LegislatureThat went into effect just last year, and not being in Texas anymore, I didn’t notice the passing of it.The lengths involved may vary, but I can’t imagine anywhere with a blanket ban on knives, except at certain places. But a school policy isn’t spelled out in law.
