I Called This Restraunt And Asked For Their Number And They Wouldn

Is it illegal to eat another restaurant's food in a different restaurant?

Almost any restaurant will demand that you not bring outside food in to eat. Their entire reason for existing, and the only way they can make enough money to stay in business and they hope to earn a profit is to sell food to you. When you bring in your own food, you are using their facilities for free — tables, bathrooms, perhaps plates — and possibly taking up space that they could use for paying customers. It is basically like going to somebody else's house and sitting in their chair. In most cases it is not illegal for you to do this, it is up to the restaurant to find you and tell you to stop. If you're friendly, act innocent, and apologize, then depending on the restaurant and who is the manager that day they might be okay with your staying as long as you stop eating outside food. Others will kick you out. If they are particularly upset they will tell you never to come back.Depending on the laws of the local jurisdiction, it may well be illegal for an establishment to allow you to bring in outside food. This is mostly about health codes, the local government inspects restaurants and tries to make sure that all food inside is safe to eat. If they know you're doing it, and they allow it, they could be violating a local ordinance. It's more of a regulation violation, whether you want to call that illegal is a matter of definition.

Is it rude to the other couple to ask for separate checks at restaurants?

We go out to dinner or drinks with a couple about 2-3 times per month and they have expensive taste. They always want to go to expensive restaurants (which my boyfriend and I cannot afford) and they always order a bottle of wine and pressure us to share the wine. On several occasions they have split the bill by 4 even though my boyfriend and I clearly got less. For example, they had dinner and alcohol and we only had drinks. I'm think from now on to ask for separate checks so we aren't stuck with paying for their meals/drinks! Is it rude?

Is it clever to look at the list of menu of restaurant, or is it better and healthy to freely sit and ask the waiter after for a food?

It's better & smarter to ;ool at the menu.

Why do restaurants always give one less menu card than number of people at a table?

ACTUALLY THEY LIMIT YOUR OPTIONS. The best menus account for the psychological theory known as the “paradox of choice,” which says that the more options we have, the more anxiety we feel. So,they don't give menu cards to everyone present at the table. And you all don't decide the items, only two or three people are involved in it. Big restaurants do another trick. Seven options per food category, tops (seven appetizers, seven entrees, etc.). When they include over seven items, a guest will be overwhelmed and confused, and when they get confused they’ll typically default to an item they’ve had before. No shame in sticking with what you know, but a well-designed menu might entice you to try something a bit different (and a bit more expensive). THEY PLAY WITH YOUR EYES. Just like supermarkets put profitable items at eye level, restaurants design their menus to make the most of your gaze. The upper right corner is prime. The upper right is where a person will go on a blank sheet of paper or in a magazine. That’s where the most profitable items usually go. Then they build the appetizers on the upper left and salads underneath that. You want to keep the menu flowing well.Another trick is to create space around high-profit items by putting them in boxes or otherwise separating them from the rest of the options. When you put in a pocket of negative space, you pull the eye there,. Putting negative space around an item can call attention to it and help them sell it.These are nothing, only psychological tricks.

What do high-end restaurants do if a credit card is declined at the end of a meal?

Had this happen a few weeks ago.  The bank sent me a new card to extend things past the 03/15 expiration date.  They require that I hit their ATM and use the new card to ask for an account balance, but only indicated that a new PIN would be coming eventually.  So, I handed the gal the old card, figuring it was still valid (still in March).Youngster comes back (my wife and I know most of the staff there) and sheepishly told us that the card had been declined.I gave her a quick synopsis, and then handed her another card.  End of problem.  (I activated the new card a day or two later.)  Still haven't seen the new PIN....Wouldn't call this place "High End", but it's not McD's....Maybe 25  years ago, I used to be a regular lunch patron at another restaurant in town.  To the point that I often babysat the owner's grandchildren while their mom was in the kitchen bagging up some of "today's special" to take home.I had a buddy from Cleveland who used to join me for lunch often.  One evening  he was in town with his wife and some friends, and they stopped there for supper.  That's when he found out that he was short on pocket cash.  The Owner took his personal check (they don't like to do that anyway), and then called me the next morning: "Stu, is this guy good for $60?"  I got a bit of a laugh: "Paul, he could probably have written a check big enough to buy your place if he wanted to."In short, a good restaurant will almost always try to quietly resolve the situation.  A regular customer, or someone who's been (and remains) very polite likely will be blessed with a good result. These days, it's a very good idea to carry at least two major credit cards.  If you check into a hotel, they may freeze your entire credit limit to cover your "tab", and, well, don't try to use that one elsewhere.  But you can always use the other one....

Why do fast food restaurants ask for your name?

They want to give it a more "personal" vibe. Sometimes people don't know what # on the receipt to look out for... it makes it faster to call out "PENELOPE!" rather than #234!

If you order from a restaurant over the phone, can you cancel it?

My friend ordered over the phone, but we didn't realize the bank was closed until after we ordered. They said they still had to charge us. Is that right? Or are there laws against this?

Why do some bars and restaurants refuse to call taxis for customers?

Philip hit the answer right on the head. Too many places in there for the problem, which shouldn’t even BE a problem, to become the venue’s problem. NOPE!! We have enough other things happening inside the venue to keep track of without taking on things that happen outside, in the world. Keep the transaction between the buyer(patron) and the seller(taxi driver).Getting grown patrons to their next destination, after they clearly got themselves to ours, is not our direct responsibility. Suggesting that you take a cab, offering you taxi numbers, and even access to a phone is within our bailiwick.Better, these days, to just give taxi phone numbers to the patron and let them call themselves. Less misunderstandings, and when the cab calls back, or upon arrival, they call the customer’s cell phone and they can all sort it out, like adults do.Exceptions: when a patron is confused or disoriented, we assist as well as we can, but we prefer to call the cab from the patron’s own cell phone, for the above reasons.

How should I sue a restaurant for adding an extravagant tip amount on a credit card (without my intent)?

The first thing that occured to me when I read this was “Much ado about nothing!” I’ve paid for thousands of restaurant meals by credit card over decades and this has happened to me maybe three or four times. The usual deal is you leave the “Tip line” on the bill empty because you’re going to leave the tip in cash. BAD MISTAKE because the unscrupulous server adds whatever they want and hopes that you won’t notice when the bill goes through. Of course they need to alter the total and usually they do a crappy job!PRO TIP- If you are charging your meal and leaving a cash tip, write “CASH” on the tip line!Step #1- Call the restaurant and ask for the manager. Nine times out of ten the tip will be refunded on your card in a heartbeat! The continued employment of the server is another story.Step #2- Call your charge card company and dispute the charge. The charge card folks are quite liberal in this area and they will hold back payment of the entire charge until the dispute is settled. This makes the restaurant very unhappy and it’s easier for them to refund the tip and move on.Suing the restaurant is counterproductive and will result in a financial loss unless the tip was a giant amount for a huge party. If you want to sue just to make a point and incur a large financial loss just to make a point I question your IQ!
