I Can Not Send Emails. It Asks Me To Type In The Code That Appears In The Window To Prove That

How does one type the Not Equal To (≠) symbol in windows?

To enter non-keyboard characters, you first need to know their Unicode values.

An easy way to find the Unicode value of ≠ is to paste the character into the Query Box at http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/... and then mouse-press the “Search” button. You can also type in the name “not equals” or either the hexadecimal or decimal Unicode code for the character if you know either.

If you get more than one answer, select the one that seems best. That will provide this information page: http://www.fileformat.info/info/unicode/... .

Among other information provided are the character’s hexadecimal value (2660) and the decimal value (8800). These can be used to build the HTML hexadecimal entity and the HTML decimal entity. This particular character also has an HTML named entity: & n e ; (without the spaces). If you type any of these entities into many forums, including this one, the entity will convert into the character itself when you preview or post your entry.

The information page also gives a method to use to type the character under Microsoft Windows, but that is a non-standard method to be used in the author’s non-standard utility. Mouse-click on “How to type in Microsoft Windows” to get a page which explains things more fully: http://www.fileformat.info/tip/microsoft... .

The same information appears at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alt_code .

If you don't want to mess with your registry, you can download and install the free utility “Quick Unicode Input Tool” which allows either decimal or hexadecimal input for any Unicode character from 0 to FFFF (hexadecimal) or 65535 (decimal). The only drawback I find with this utility is that it blocks out the normal Alt key method which people use to get characters from their DOS character set. But since all these characters also have a Unicode number, that is not of great importance.

You can also edit your keyboard to assign a keystroke to ≠ or to any other character. Download and install the free Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/goglobal/bb964665.aspx and learn how to use it.

For some further similar utilities, see http://www.alanwood.net/unicode/utilities_fonts.html . Some of these cost, but are more powerful.

Note that many applications have their own methods for entering characters by Unicode values. Check the Help for that application.

How can you type umlauts (like in German) in Yahoo based emails?

In German, certain characters are called umlauts. These have two dots above the character. There is also a character called an "esset" which looks like an italicized "B" but is really a hard sounding "S". I send emails to my friends in Germany, and also to friends in my German class. I'd like to be able to properly spell the German words by including the umlauts, but I can't figure out how to do this in my Yahoo based emails. Anyone got a solution? Thanks!

How Can I Simply Type a Letter in Windows 8?

While on the start screen just start typing the name of what you want. So switch to the start screen and type wordpad. It will appear just like doing a Google Instant search and all you have to do next is click on it or press the Enter key to run it.

You can also search for files, settings, and control panels in this same way. So if you want to adjust how long it takes before your PC goes to sleep, type power options and it'll appear. It's much faster than drilling down via a hierarchy of folder or menus.

You can also customize the start screen by pinning your favorite programs and unpinning the stuff you don't use/want.

There's also a way to see all the programs installed on your PC. Switch to the start screen and right click, then click all apps. You can do the same thing by pressing Ctrl + Tab while on the start screen.

You can read all about the new features in Windows 8 by opening help and support and clicking "Get started." To open help and support switch to the start screen and type help. It can also be opened by pressing Win + F1.

Quite a few of the start screen apps require a Microsoft Account. If you have a Hotmail, Outlook, or Live email address then sign in using that if it asks.

Oh, and you don't have to buy MS Office if you only use it occasionally. I suggest downloading a free office suite like LibreOffice. It's also compatible with MS Office document formats so you'll be able to take them to work.

I've added some other links that might be useful. Windows XP is 11 years old now and there have been a ton of changes to Windows since then. It might take a while to catch up.

Error Code 475 Yahoo Mail! Ugh!?

Hi David,

I highly recommend that you delete this entire post because that header contains information specific to your account and it is now publicly posted on the internet. That information will be permanently and publicly archived if not deleted.

If you are unable to get past this message, you need to respond to the customer care email that you received and let them know it's not resolving itself as it should. They will then be able to investigate the issue and report it to engineering if needed.

Hope that helps!
Echo S.
