I Consistantly Work More Hours Than My Contract States.

What are lockes and hobbes contract theories?

Civil society has been characterized by the theory of the social contract
initially formalized by Thomas Hobbes and John Locke:
a. Identify the following:
i. When did they live and what is their nationality
ii. The name of their major work and date of publication
iii. Their description of man in the state of nature
iv. Their philosophy of the state – what is each author’s vision of civil governance
b. Among Hobbes and Locke, which philosopher’s big idea fits most closely with the social contract of the United States? Explain.

What are the laws about Barking dogs...in washington state?

I used to live in Whatcom County (Bellingham and later, Ferndale) for many years. I was familiar with the barking-dogs law at the time, though it may have changed. I can't imagine it would be more lenient, though. If dogs barked continuously for more than approx. 5-10 minutes, it was considered a nuisance and could be reported. If reported, animal control or the sheriff, depending on if you were in city or county, would come warn the person complained against. After a few warnings, the dog or dogs could be taken away, fines are issued, etc.. It can also be reported as animal neglect or cruelty, as a dog barking enough to be a nuisance is not (or wasn't under Whatcom co. law a few years ago) considered to be properly cared for. Some people end up calling authorities just to make sure the dog/s aren't injured or the owner hasn't abandoned them, or the neighbor's house is being broken into, etc., if dogs are barking too often.

Do i HAVE to pay quarterly taxes for sporadic freelance work or can i pay annually?

i have a regular 9-5 job and file my income taxes before april 15 every year. this year i've been doing a little bit of freelance graphic design work for a client here and there. i filed a 1099 with them so they'll be sending me a w2 in january. Can i put a percentage of what i make aside and pay my taxes with my regular income tax next year or do i HAVE to pay quarterly. my freelance income is far from consistent.

Teen really stressed out about part time job?

So I'm a senior, taking 6 AP classes plus 3 band classes, playing 3 instruments, and working 21 hours a week at a retirement home.
Not to mention, I'm maintaining a 4.0 GPA, applying for scholarships and college, I'm a state youth delegate, and my music obligations are about once a week at night.
When I got this job, they told me 2-3 shifts a week (6 to 9 hours.)
However, I've been working there about 5 months and I'm always getting called in at the last second, as there are 3 of us covering 14 shifts a week. I'm so overwhelmed, and my boss sucks, and I don't get paid much.
We have to request days off by the 17th of every month, and I just realized I'm going to be scheduled to work on Christmas Eve which is the biggest and really only holiday my family celebrates. It's going to kill my parents that my last year at home, I won't be able to go.
I feel like I'm missing out on a lot...sports, being in plays, hanging out...because I'm always working and my schedule is different every single week.
My family isn't poor at all. My parents just wanted me to work over the summer, but this job is a huge commitment because it's not like a chain place where they are constantly phasing workers in and out.
I don't know what to do. I like my job, but it's too many hours and it's not consistent at all.
Any insight? :/

Why aren't prisoners forced to work on public works projects?

Why don't we have prisoners, especially the ones who are serving life sentences, build our freeways and bridges and public buildings? I'm sure there's a reason this isn't commonplace... is it considered unethical or something?

If there are any court cases relating to this I'd love to see them.

(I'm concerned primarily with the U.S., but international examples would also be of interest.)

What can I say to a boss who demands I stay on the clock without compensation for my time?

It depends on the nature of the job and on how often it is happening. If you are paid by the hour then you should be paid for every hour you are working (or are required to be at work) and you should make sure any overtime is properly recorded and paid.Salaried employees (especially those on quite substantial salaries), on the other hand, are often expected (and required by their contracts) to work additional hours without additional pay if it is necessary to get the work done - you are being paid to do a job, rather than to work for a particular number of hours, so need to work as many hours as it takes to get the job done. If you are consistently being required to work additional hours then you should raise it with your boss, but if it is just an occasional thing during busy times then you will just have to accept that it is part of the job.
